Um estudo sobre o processo K não homogêneo / A study of the non-homogeneous K-process

Gabriel Ribeiro da Cruz Peixoto 22 February 2011 (has links)
K processes were studied in the 50\'s as a source of counter examples and of pathological behaviour. It is now know that they are a scaling limit for trap models, which led attention back to them. In this work, we will adopt a constructive approach, using it to show the strong Markov propriety, calculate the transition rates and the infinitesimal generator.

Infinitesimal Perturbation Analysis for the Capacitated Finite-Horizon Multi-Period Multiproduct Newsvendor Problem

Wilson, Brigham Bond 09 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
An optimal ordering scheme for the capacitated, finite-horizon, multi-period, multiproduct newsvendor problem was proposed by cite {shao06} using a hedging point policy. This solution requires the calculation of a central curve that divides the different ordering regions and a vector that defines the target inventory levels. The central curve is a nonlinear curve that determines the optimal order quantities as a function of the initial inventory levels. In this paper we propose a method for calculating this curve and vector using spline functions, infinitesimal perturbation analysis (IPA), and convex optimization. Using IPA the derivatives of the cost with respect to the variables that determine the spline function are efficiently calculated. A convex optimization algorithm is used to optimize the spline function, resulting in a optimal policy. We present the mathematical derivations and simulation results validating this solution.

Performance Analysis of Point Source Model with Coincident Phase Centers in FDTD

Xu, Yang 16 April 2014 (has links)
The Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) Method has been a powerful tool in numerical simulation of electromagnetic (EM) problems for decades. In recent years, it has also been applied to biomedical research to investigate the interaction between EM waves and biological tissues. In Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) studies, to better understand the localization problem within the body, an accurate source/receiver model must be investigated. However, the traditional source models in FDTD involve effective volume and may cause error in near field arbitrary direction. This thesis reviews the basic mathematical and numerical foundation of the Finite Difference Time Domain method and the material properties needed when modeling a human body in FDTD. Then Coincident Phase Centers (CPCs) point sources models have been introduced which provide nearly the same accuracy at the distances as small as 3 unit cells from the phase center. Simultaneously, this model outperforms the usual sources in the near field when an arbitrary direction of the electric or magnetic dipole moment is required.
