Prisvärd militär flygning med rimliga risker

Ytters är skälen till undersökningarna i denna avhandling ekonomiska. Att flyga moderna krisgsflygplan är dyrt. Kan effektiv träning bedrivas intermittent i stället för kontinuerligt? Kan billigare skolflygplan vara ett komplement till krigsflygplan i systemutbildningen? En studie av intermittent flygning på jaktflygplan gjordes i två etapper, först i simulator - del I i avhandlingen - och sedan i luften - del II i avhandlingen. En del av en attackstudie med kompletteringsflygning i skolflygplan är del III.  Studierna hade en experiment-kontrollgrupps-design. I jaktstudien jämfördes avgångna flygförare med aktiv personal. I attackstudien jämfördes aktiva förare vid en experimentdivision med likaledes aktiva förare vid en kontrolldivision. Prestationsvärdering är av avgörande betydelse i undersökningarna. Parallellt med flygförarnas prestation har även deras arbetsbelastning mätts både i simulator och i luften, liksom deras ansträngning, motivation och sinnesstämning. Prognosen från simulator till luften angående förarnas kapacitet och operativa användbarhet kunde förbättras, när hänsyn togs även till andra variabler än prestation. Modeller av flygförares funktion och prestation under flygning kunde konstrueras med utgångspunkt från den utmaning, d v s risk och svårighet, som upplevdes före flygning.

Towards a financial literacy model as a coordinating interface between financial information and decision makers

The purpose of this study is to investigate how a financial literacy interface model could contribute towards the comprehensibility of financial information to decision makers in organisations. The way individuals and institutions use the concept of financial literacy suggests that different people attach different meanings to this construct. In order to establish a conceptual model for financial literacy, this study endeavours to formulate what financial literacy entails as well as decision makers’ expectations of financial information. The increase in the volume and complexity of financial information often outstrips the abilities of users to understand and interpret it for decision-making purposes. A financial literacy interface provides an opportunity window for decision makers in organisations to break through their fears and concerns in using financial figures and language. Users of financial information differ vastly with regard to their level of financial capability and sophistication, and preparers of financial information should take cognisance of the fact. The study revealed that financial literacy is a complex phenomenon and that the term encompasses more than the individual terms “financial” and “literacy”. A Ray-Based Investigation of the Statistical Characteristics and Efficient Representation of Multi-Antenna Communication Channels

Multi-antenna communication systems are attracting research interest as a means to increase the information capacity, reliability, and spectral efficiency of wireless information transfer. Ray-tracing methods predict the behavior of wireless channels using a model of the propagation environment and are a low-cost alternative to direct measurements. We use ray tracing simulations to validate the statistical time and angle of arrival characteristics of an indoor multipath channel and compare model parameter estimates with estimates derived from channel sounding measurements. Ray tracing predicts the time and angle clustering of multipaths observed in the measurements and provides model parameter estimates which are closely correlated with measured estimates. The ray tracing parameters relating to power characteristics show more deviation from measurements than the time and angle related parameters. Our results also indicate that the description of reflective scatterers in the propagation environment is more important to the quality of the predicted statistical behavior than the description of bulk materials. We use a ray synthesis model to investigate means of efficiently representing the channel for feedback information to the transmitter as a means to increase the information capacity. Several methods of selecting the ray-model feedback information are demonstrated with results from simulated and measured channels. These results indicate that an ESPRIT algorithm coupled with ad hoc transmit/receive pairing can yield better than 90% of the ideal waterfilling capacity when adequate training-based channel estimates are available. Additionally, we investigate a covariance feedback method for providing channel feedback for increased capacity. Both the ray-based and covariance-based feedback methods yield their highest capacity improvements when the signal to noise ratio is low. This results because of the larger benefit of focusing transmit power into the most advantageous eigenmodes of the channel when fewer eigenmodes have power allocated to them by the waterfilling capacity solution. In higher signal to noise ratio cases, more eigenmodes of the channel receive power when waterfilling, and the capacity improvement from feedback information decreases relative to a uniform power allocation. In general, ray model feedback methods are preferable because the covariance feedback quickly requires higher computational effort as the array sizes increase and typically results in lower capacity for a given amount of feedback information.

Exploring the understanding of routinely collected data by the health practitioners in a primary health care setting

Health practitioners collect health data on a daily basis at health facility levels in order to monitor and evaluate the performance of priority national health programmes (District Health Plan 2012:6). Routine data quality for health programmes monitoring need a collective intervention to ensure clear understanding for what data to be collected at primary health care setting. The aim of the study is to explore the understanding of routine health data, determine the use of routine data and feedback mechanism at primary health care clinic setting. Quantitative descriptive research design was used to answer the research question on this research study. Structured data collection questionnaire was used for the study to accomplish the research purpose and reach the study objectives. A total of 400 participants was sampled, and 247 responded. One of the findings was that the understanding of routine health data by Health Practitioners was at 82.6% (% = f/n*100, f= 3242 and n= 3926). / Health Studies
