Previous issue date: 2006-05-30 / The objective of the study in hand was to perform an analysis, regarding the Genetic Epistemology perspective of Jean Piaget, of some processes present in companies in the service organizations market.
In this way, the work in hand assumes as an initial assumption the definition of knowledge from this perspective, also known as constructivism.
Considering the premise adopted, it became evident that it s development was inexorably linked to the understanding of reality through a vision that contains a dialetic form in the knowledge concept proposed by the genetic epistemology. In this, the complex vision was ideal approach to deal with the facilitation of a conception of the organization in line with the definition knowledge of genetic epistemology. In addition to this, the ideas present in both perspetives, demonstrate a distinct convergence, contributing to the enriching of the present study.
The complex thinking also allowed distinguish the organization identity as for other phenomenon that should be considered in the examination of knowledge in organization.
The empirical study was conducted by way of a multiply case study in service companies. The common aspect in these organization is the fact that all of them possess the same brazilian company as a partner. However, it s important to emphasize that these companies operate in distincts segments facilitating diversity in the processes analysed.
The library research was fundamental for the understanding of the principles that orientate empirical study. This study allowed the verification of wide range of processes involved in the creation and transmission of knowledge in an organizations, more important than the contents, is the form in wich the contents are presented.
In this way, the indentification, characterization and analysis of the processes at the creation of knowledge in these companies from a complex ant constructivist point of view, can contribute to the adoption of more efective and successful strategies of implementation and maintenance of the constructivist processes as an important competitive factor / O objetivo deste estudo foi o de efetuar uma análise, sob a ótica da epistemologia genética de Jean Piaget, de alguns dos processos existentes em organizações do mercado de serviços.

Towards a financial literacy model as a coordinating interface between financial information and decision makersShuttleworth, Christina Cornelia 26 September 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how a financial literacy interface model could contribute towards the comprehensibility of financial information to decision makers in organisations. The way individuals and institutions use the concept of financial literacy suggests that different people attach different meanings to this construct. In order to establish a conceptual model for financial literacy, this study endeavours to formulate what financial literacy entails as well as decision makers’ expectations of financial information. The increase in the volume and complexity of financial information often outstrips the abilities of users to understand and interpret it for decision-making purposes. A financial literacy interface provides an opportunity window for decision makers in organisations to break through their fears and concerns in using financial figures and language. Users of financial information differ vastly with regard to their level of financial capability and sophistication, and preparers of financial information should take cognisance of the fact. The study revealed that financial literacy is a complex phenomenon and that the term encompasses more than the individual terms “financial” and “literacy”. It further endeavoured to develop a financial literacy interface model as a coordinating interface between financial information and decision makers. / Thesis (DCom)--University of Pretoria, 2009. / Financial Management / unrestricted

Organizing Future: An Integrated Framework for the Emergence of Collective Self-transcending KnowledgeFeldhusen, Birgit 11 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Within dynamic 21st century knowledge economies, future-building knowledge, that bears capacities to transcend existing boundaries and create something new, is of particular importance. Within the first decade of the new century, new concepts such as "learning from the future" or "self-transcending knowledge" developed within knowledge management. So far, they lacked a theoretical grounding in relevant learning theory as well as a sound acknowledgement and consideration of such knowledge structures' emergence and social embeddedness. Thus, key principles and leverage factors for designing respective knowledge processes were difficult to derive.
This dissertation investigates theoretical ground that can provide a basis to explain the creation of future-building knowledge in collective structures. It is guided by the following research question: "How can the emergence of self-transcending knowledge in collective organizational settings be rooted in theories of knowledge, learning and cognition?"
Starting from the model of knowledge-based management, the model is expanded by exploring cognitive, creative and social systemic aspects of knowledge creation on a transdisciplinary basis. Research draws on constructivist learning theory, complexity-based approaches in knowledge management and organizational learning, recent accounts in cognitive science (enaction/embodiment) and a creative logic of emergence to derive an integrated model for collective self-transcending knowledge.
The model contributes to the integration of knowledge management, organizational learning and cognitive science, expanding knowledge-based management towards attention-based management. The model's three dimensions and three domains form an integrated theoretical basis to derive key principles and leverage factors for steering future-building knowledge processes. Simultaneously, they reveal leverage factors' limited - i.e. enabling, not determining - impact on processes of "organizing future".

In the documents that presently guide teaching and education in Brazil, there is a certain intent to make social development oriented by a critical view on socio-environmental issues. This concern leads to a reflection about the current school organization, its culture and the knowledge produced in the school, regarding the singularities of each of these aspects. It is also important acknowledge the very status of scholarly knowledge, integrating it with other forms of cognition (daily, scientific, philosophical). Thereby, this study presents the energy theme lined up with the aspects of the complexification of school knowledge and elements of school culture. Methodologically, thematic and conceptual organizations are structured to build a thematic course on energy, and these were elaborated by physics teachers and aligned with the actual curriculum in the textbooks. In its turn, the thematic pathways are articulated with these elements, the complexification and the school culture. Based on the results, there is a need to broaden the understanding of students and teachers concerning issues that permeate contemporary society, as well as ways to take them to classrooms. In addition, the approach to real open and dynamic problems of contemporary society and the making of school knowledge from the advance of daily understanding can contribute to the elaboration of better classrooms.
