This research is characterized as documentary, without neglecting, however, the bibliographical research. Within the mass of documents analyzed, we highlight the legislation, reports from provincial presidents and journals. The theoretical basis of this text are the works of Veiga (2002, 2004, 2008, 2010), Gondra and Schueler (2008), Barra (2011), Elias (1980, 1993, 1994), and others. The ingenuous existed in Goiás and their experience intensified changes that had been taking place since the mid-nineteenth century in this province. The education of this group was the subject of debate and discussion, a movement which has revealed conceptions of education and educational activities for different social groups in the province of Goiás in the nineteenth century, conceptions and actions that we believe are essential to the understanding of this period of history in Goiás. So, much more than conclusions, this work points to the need for new investments in research on education of Goiás in the nineteenth century, especially with regard to primary education, its goals and its target audience. / Esta pesquisa analisa como se configuraram as propostas para a educação dos ingênuos na província goiana entre 1871 e 1888, buscando compreender as proposituras e ações para a educação dessa parcela da população que surgiu após a promulgação da Lei do Ventre Livre, em 1871. Esta pesquisa caracteriza-se como documental, sem negligenciar, contudo, a pesquisa bibliográfica. Dentro da massa documental analisada, destacamos as legislações, os relatórios dos presidentes de província e os periódicos. A base teórica deste texto são os trabalhos de Veiga (2002, 2004, 2008, 2010), Gondra e Schueler (2008), Barra (2011), Elias (1980, 1993, 1994), e outros. Os ingênuos existiram em Goiás e a vivência deles aprofundou as modificações que vinham ocorrendo desde meados do século XIX nessa província. A educação desse grupo foi alvo de debates e discussões, movimento esse que revelou a existência de concepções de educação e ações educacionais distintas para diferentes grupos sociais na província goiana oitocentista, concepções e ações que entendemos ser essenciais para a compreensão desse período da história goiana. Portanto, muito mais que conclusões, este trabalho aponta para a necessidade de novos investimentos em pesquisa sobre a educação goiana no século XIX, sobretudo no tocante à educação primária, seus objetivos e seu público alvo.
