Beskrywing van die hospitaal- en opleidingskoolwapens en embleme in die Republiek van Suid-Afrika : 'n etos van verplegingperspektief

Norval, Martha Susanna 11 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / This research describes the coats of arms and emblems of hospitals and nursing colleges in the Republic of South Africa, an aspect of nursing's heritage and history have not yet been described. Data were collected by means of questionnaires. An extensive literature review on heraldics and an analysis of the meanings contained in the symbols appearing on these devices were done. The analysis resulted in the following; the uniqueness of the individual devices, the development of nursing and nursing education, the influence of values, norms, ideals, culture, religion and history on the selection of symbols. The heraldic meanings of symbols and the meanings indicated in the questionnaires were compared with the identified core concepts for nursing. The overall finding was that any congruence was purely circumstantial. / Health Studies / M.A. (Verpleegkunde)

The transformation of Alexanders court : the kingship, royal insignia and eastern court personnel of Alexander the Great

Collins, Andrew William, n/a January 2008 (has links)
This thesis examines Alexanders conception of kingship, his relationship with royal traditions in the three great kingdoms of the Near East, and the concomitant transformation of the kings court by which Alexander created a distinctive royal insignia and introduced new court personnel and protocol. Section I ("Alexander and Near Eastern Kingship") contains Chapters I, II, and III. Section II ("The Transformation") comprises Chapters IV to VI. In Chapter I, I examine the Macedonian background of Alexanders court and his native conception of kingship. Chapter II is a study of the kingship of Egypt. Chapter III deals with the kingship of Babylon and Persia. I then turn to an analysis of Alexanders policies towards the Persians and the concept of the "kingship of Asia," as this was understood by Alexander. This crucial concept is to be distinguished from the kingship of Persia, a position which Alexander supplanted and replaced with his personal kingship of Asia. In Section II, three chapters are devoted to an analysis of the transformation of Alexanders court. Chapter IV covers the origin and significance of Alexanders royal insignia. Chapter V examines the introduction of, and the role played by, Persians and easterners in the kings court; and Chapter VI the significance of other Persian court offices.

Identifikace a původ drahých kamenů v insignii Univerzity Karlovy v Praze, Přírodovědecké fakulty / The Identification and the Origin of the Gemstones Adorning the Insignia of the Charles University in Prague , the Faculty of Science

Petrová, Zdeňka January 2010 (has links)
The issue of a sceptre for the newly founded Faculty of Science was first discussed on the meeting of Faculty professors on the 25th November 1921, more than a year after the separation of the Faculty of Science from the Faculty of Arts. The commission elected from among the professors proposed a motion that the new Faculty sceptre should resemble the sceptre of the parental Faculty of Arts. Through a mediation of the Ministry of Education and National Enlightment the design of the new sceptre was ordered from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design and it was elaborated by prof. Jaroslav Horejc. However, in January 1923, his design was rejected, because it didn't meet the requirements of the professors' conservative approach. When prof. Horejc refused to make a modified copy of the sceptre of the Faculty of Arts, the professors addressed Tengler, the goldsmith who had made the sceptres of other faculties and of the rector in previous years. Alois Tengler was willing to make a modified copy of the sceptre of Faculty of Arts, but he also proposed a new design (with estimated price of 20 000 K), which the professors found more suitable and subsequently this design was adopted. Tengler committed himself to manufacture the sceptre by the 15th November 1924 and to incorporate any additional design...
