Graph based techniques for measurement of intranet dynamics

Dickinson, Peter January 2006 (has links)
This thesis develops a number of graph-based techniques that are capable of measuring the dynamic behaviour of a network and discusses their application in network management. By representing a computer network as a time series of uniquely labelled graphs, it is possible to measure the degree of change that has occurred between a pair of graphs, and hence the dynamics in a network. Concepts introduced include the median graph, intra- and inter- graph clustering, and hierarchical graph representations. The focus is on producing efficient algorithms and improved measures of network change. It is believed that these graph-based techniques for measuring network dynamics have great potential in network anomaly detection, and thus will improve reliability of enterprise intranets.

Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Tecnológico, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia e Gestão do Conhecimento, Florianópolis, 2014. / Made available in DSpace on 2015-03-18T20:58:48Z (GMT). This research proposes an application of a model of advertising language in internal campaigns to promote a corporate brand. The purpose is to build an effective system of communication and understanding of the brand in the internal workforce, using a intranet s graphical interface for interactive digital environment as media. In the context of organizational management, including on the areas of Marketing, Communication and Design, the relationship of public brand is designed in two basic populations: the internal workforce and the external public. Promote awareness of the brand in the internal workforce of the organization, with resources of Advertising and Marketing language through intranet network, implies design the information with efficient aesthetic and semantic resources in promoting awareness of the corporate brand through the practice of Design. The visual and verbal resources, resulting from the selection of information and organization of texts, are applied to the visual composition of graphic-digital interfaces as part of the context of mediation of the corporate brand awareness by the internal public. The proposed model was applied and evaluated in the development of advertising promotional campaign for the intranet network of a university education company brand of Santa Catarina, from the creation, implementation and dissemination of an internal advertising campaign of the brand, based on media resources of the intranet network, being an efficient experience of internal dissemination of the brand. The resources of the advertising communication were integrated into theoretical and practical assumptions for the area of Media and Knowledge of the Engineering and Knowledge Management Program (PPEGC / UFSC) and the model results from interdisciplinary correlations with the areas of Engineering, Media, Knowledge Management and also the resources of Internal Marketing, Design and Advertising. The scope of the proposed model is not restricted to the enterprise in question or of university education companies because it uses available or accessible resources and procedures in various companies or institutions, especially the medium and large. Furthermore, it is believed that future studies will show how efficient the advertising language resource for other types of promoting the context of Internal Marketing.

Artificial intelligence and knowledge management principles in secure corporate intranets

Barry, Christopher 23 February 2010 (has links)
M.Sc. (Computer Science) / Corporations throughout the world are facing numerous challenges in today’s competitive marketplace and are continuously looking for new and innovative means and methods of gaining competitive advantage. One of the means used to gain this advantage is that of information technology, and all the associated technologies and principles. These are primarily used to facilitate business processes and procedures that are designed to provide this competitive advantage. Significant attention has been given to each of the individual technologies and principles of Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Management, Information Security, and Intranets and how they can be leveraged in order to improve efficiency and functionality within a corporation. However, in order to truly reap the benefits of these technologies and principles, it is necessary to look at them as a collaborative system, rather as individual components. This dissertation therefore investigates each of these individual technologies and principles in isolation, as well as in combination with each other to outline potential advantages, associated risks, and disadvantages when combining them within the corporate world. Based on these, the Intelligently Generated Knowledge (IGK) framework is outlined to implement such a collaborative system. Thereafter, an investigation of a theoretical situation is conducted based on this framework to examine the impact of the implementation of this type of collaborative system. The potential increase in cost savings, efficiency and functionality of corporations that would employ the IGK framework is clearly outlined in the theoretical example, and should this approach be adopted, it would be able to provide significant competitive advantage for any corporation.

Information security in a distributed banking environment, with specific reference to security protocols.

Van Buuren, Suzi 22 August 2012 (has links)
M.Comm. / The principal aim of the present dissertation is to determine the nature of an electronicbanking environment, to determine the threats within such an environment and the security functionality needed to ward off these threats. Security solutions for each area at risk will be provided in short. The main focus of the dissertation will fall on the security protocols that can be used as solutions to protect a banking system. In the dissertation, indication will also be given of what the security protocols, in their turn, depend on to provide protection to a banking system. There are several security protocols that can be used to secure a banking system. The problem, however, is to determine which protocol will provide the best security for a bank in a specific application. This dissertation is also aimed at providing a general security framework that banks could use to evaluate various security protocols which could be implemented to secure a banking system. Such framework should indicate which security protocols will provide a bank in a certain banking environment with the best protection against security threats. It should also indicate which protocols could be used in combination with others to provide the best security.

Monitoring the progress of the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) implementation, performance and impact

Dalaklis, Dimitrios 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / Information Superiority is the driver for the creation of the Global Information Grid (GIG) as the mean to provide connectivity between all parts of shore establishments, and with all deployed forces at sea and ashore. The Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) is an information technology (IT) services contract to provide to provide secure universal access to integrated voice, video and data communications; eliminate interoperability problems and remove network impediments to improve productivity and speed of command to the shore-based components of the Navy and Marine Corps. The NMCI contract is the procurement of IT services based on a commercial model of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Under this model, the emphasis is placed on the verification, validation, and monitoring of the end-user services and not on the underlying infrastructure of systems. The research explores the current implementing effort of NMCI and analyzes the way this common network capability is tested and monitored. This thesis will provide a single source of information for managers seeking to quickly understand the impact of NMCI as an enterprise level asset. Security policies related to the project are examined and recommendations to improve this new IT initiative are made. / Lieutenant, Hellenic Navy

The internet as a strategic business management tool

14 August 2012 (has links)
M.Comm. / This study was conducted with the intent of understanding and evaluating the commercial use and possibilities that the Internet offers, as well as the strategic approach businesses should take when commencing with electronic commerce on the Internet. The potential value of Intranets and Extranets has also been examined briefly. The Internet is a very useful mechanism for marketing as well as sales of products or services on a domestic or international basis. Various other commercial possibilities and uses exist for the Internet, as well as for its derivatives — the Intranet and Extranet. In the fiercely competitive market of today, companies research, develop and invest resources in various methods and tools in the hope to gain competitive advantage over their rivals. The Internet, Intranet and Extranet, used in isolation or conjunction, pose an extremely attractive alternative to gaining competitive advantage in a specific sector or market niche. The success of the Internet as a business tool depends directly on the overall business strategy that is driving the approach. For optimum success the main business strategy must be aligned with the Information Technology Strategy, and especially include thorough consideration as well as planning when implementing the Internet or one of its derivatives as a business tool.

Technoeconomic aspects of next-generation telecommunications including the Internet service

Unknown Date (has links)
This research is concerned with the technoeconomic aspects of modern and next-generation telecommunications including the Internet service. The goal of this study thereof is tailored to address the following: (i) Reviewing the technoeconomic considerations prevailing in telecommunication (telco) systems and their implicating futures; (ii) studying relevant considerations by depicting the modern/next-generation telecommunications as a digital ecosystem viewed in terms of underlying complex system evolution (akin to biological systems); (iii) pursuant to the digital ecosystem concept, co-evolution modeling of competitive business structures in the technoeconomics of telco services using dichotomous (flip-flop) states as seen in prey-predator evolution; (iv) specific to Internet pricing economics, deducing the profile of consumer surplus versus pricing model under DiffServ QoS architecture pertinent to dynamic- , smart- and static-markets; (v) developing and exemplifying decision-making pursuits in telco business under non-competitive and competitive markets (via gametheoretic approach); (vi) and modeling forecasting issues in telco services addressed in terms of a simplified ARIMA-based time-series approach, (which includes seasonal and non-seasonal data plus goodness-fit estimations in time- and frequency-domains). Commensurate with the topics indicated above, necessary analytical derivations/models are proposed and computational exercises are performed (with MatLabTM R2006b and other software as needed). Extensive data gathered from open literature are used thereof and, ad hoc model verifications are performed. Lastly, results are discussed, inferences are made and open-questions for further research are identified. / by Renata Cristina Tourinho Sardenberg. / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2010. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction.
