The largest group that discusses this subject focuses mainly in the discovery and creations of “machinas” and processes which occurred starting on the last third of this century, when the coffee capital financed the industry. However, between 1833 and 1862,when the Brazilian nation was just recently freed, businessmen and intellectuals who lived here, used the available resources of the time, and in a creative effort, created and improved machines and manufacturing processes, to obtain merchandise. Besides the creativity from these men, the introduction of the patent law from 1830 also contributed to this, through which the final product would receive a privilege, which could be expressed through commercial exclusivity for a determined time or money compensation. In order to grant some of these privileges, the imperial government used the rulingfrom the technical commissions from the Sociedade Auxiliadora daIndustria Nacional (The Helpers of the National Industry Society), whichsupported its decisions. The results from the feedback from these rulings were published on a journal from the Society itself, which was titled “O Auxiliador da Indústria Nacional” (“The Helper of the National Industry”). By using this publication as a source, it was possible to research and discover these first inventions that happened since 1833 / Percebe-se na literatura especializada que há pouco material sobre invenções e inovações ocorridas no Brasil no início do século XIX. A grande parte que discute este assunto foca principalmente nas descobertas e nas criações de “machinas” e processos que ocorreram a partir do ultimo terço deste século, quando o capital cafeeiro financiou a indústria. No entanto, entre os anos de 1833 e 1862, quando a nação brasileira estava recém liberta, empresários e intelectuais que por aqui viviam, utilizaram dos recursos disponíveis da época e, em um esforço criativo, criaram e melhoraram máquinas e processos de fabricação, para obtenção de mercadorias. Contribuiu para isto, além da criatividade destes homens, a introdução da lei de Patentes de 1830, por meio da qual o produto final receberia um privilégio, que podia ser expresso em uma exclusividade de comercialização por um tempo determinado, ou uma vantagem em dinheiro. Para a concessão de alguns destes privilégios, o governo imperial se utilizava do parecer das comissões técnicas da Sociedade Auxiliadora da Indústria Nacional, que lhe dava suporte nas decisões. Os resultados das devolutivas destes pareceres eram publicados em um periódico da própria Sociedade, que tinha por título “O Auxiliador da Indústria Nacional”.
