An Evaluation of Non-Directive Counseling in the Treatment of Delinquents

Watt, George D. 01 May 1947 (has links)
It was the purpose of this study to make application of Carl H. Rogers' non-directive method of psychotherapy in the treatment of juvenile delinquents. The study was set up in an effort to determine the value of such a treatment procedure as one method of treating this type of individual. The hypothesis to be tested was that non-directive psychotherapy would improve the personal and social adjustment of institutionalized delinquents. Supporting this general assumption the following three corollaries were assumed: (1) that improved personal adjustment would be reflected in adjustment inventories, (2) that improved social behavior would be reflected in social behavior rating scales, and (3) that the therapeutic objectives of interviews with each subject. The general hypothesis is supported to the extent that the results support each of the corollaries. In proceding toward an experimental test of the hypotheses, testing devices were selected for the purpose of detecting and measuring imporvement that may occur in the individual during the counseling process. The means used and described in the study for this purpose are (1) expressions of the subjects, (2) the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, (3) the California Test of Personality, (4) the Haggerty-Olson-Wickman Behavior Rating Schedules. Statements made by each subject were presumed to be indicative of better adjustment when they were presumed to be indicative of better adjustment when they were of such a nature as to imply that the therapeutic objectives had been attained. The three other measuring instruments were administered to the eleven experimental subjects before, and after the counseling interviews. A comparison of the pre-test and end-test scores, was presumed to indicate the improved adjustment of the subject while the interviewing was in progress. Any improvement that might be measured by this procedure, however, may be thought of as having occurred, not only from the influence of non-directive counseling, but possibly from other sources.

Deterministic inventory models with multiple constraints

Kacholiya, Balkisan Punamchand January 1966 (has links)
This research is directed towards the minimization of the total cost of the single-item, single-source, deterministic inventory system in the face or multiple constraints. The Lagrangian multiplier technique is used for optimization. Two models, the general model and the special model, with multiple constraints are studied. For the special model the solution becomes indeterminate and/or incompatible whenever more than one constraint is active and the trial and error method is suggested for this situation. For the general model, the constraints are classified into two basic groups of incompatible constraints. Also, other possible groups of incompatible constraints are listed. A sample solution for one group, out of many possible groups, of compatible constraints is presented. Illustrative examples are given. / Master of Science

The validity of ipsative and quasi-ipsative forced-choice personality inventories for different occupational groups: a comprehensive meta-analysis

Salgado, J.F., Anderson, Neil, Tauriz, G. 2014 December 1917 (has links)
Yes / A comprehensive meta‐analysis of two types of forced‐choice (FC) personality inventories (ipsative and quasi‐ipsative) across nine occupational groups (Clerical, Customer Service, Health Care, Managerial, Military, Police, Sales, Skilled Manual, and Supervisory) is reported. Quasi‐ipsative measures showed substantially higher operational validity coefficients and validity generalization across all occupations than ipsative measures. Results also showed that, compared with the findings of previous meta‐analyses, quasi‐ipsative personality inventories are better predictors of job performance than previously thought and that operational validities for ipsative measures are notably congruent with past findings. We conclude that quasi‐ipsative scale formats are superior for predicting job performance for all occupational groups. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings for personnel selection are discussed in 4.4. / Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Grant Number: PSI2011‐27943. Leverhulme Trust. The Vulnerability of Self-report Measures of Psychopathy to Positive Impression Management: a Simulation Study with Inmates

Kelsey, Katherine R. 08 1900 (has links)
Psychopaths have long been characterized as having a remarkable disregard for the truth, to the extent that deceit is often regarded as a defining characteristic of the syndrome. Scholars described heightened concerns about how psychopaths’ deceitful and manipulative nature could significantly obstruct evaluations of psychopathy. The accurate evaluation of psychopathy is very important in forensic and correctional settings, and in such issues as risk assessment or dangerousness. Although the PCL-R is considered the quasi-gold standard when it comes to evaluating psychopathy, self-report measures have become more widely available and researched. Very few studies specifically evaluated response styles and self-report psychopathy measures despite the significant concerns regarding psychopathy and deception. The current study evaluated the ability of inmates with different levels of psychopathy to successfully engage in positive impression management on the SRP-4, LSRP, and PPI-R. Utilizing a repeated-measures, within-subjects design, 78 male inmates completed the study under genuine and simulation conditions. Overall, inmates were able to significantly lower their scores on all three self-report measures and achieved scores equivalent to and even lower than college and community samples. Inmates with higher levels of psychopathy were able to achieve larger decreases in scores on the PPI-R and on several scales for each measure. Another key finding was the identification of promising PPI-R Virtuous Responding Scale cut scores that can be utilized within forensic populations. Results indicate self-report measures should not be used to replace the PCL-R or comprehensive assessment of psychopathy in forensic evaluations; however, they do provide additional useful information and may be beneficial in other clinical settings.

Dobrovolná, Jana January 2010 (has links)
Thesis deal with problems of inventories with from two different looks, namely in light of Czech accounting recipes and International Financial Reporting Standards IAS/IFRS, including the completion of the audit inventories. Attention is devoted to the status of stocks owned enterprise, the definition of the term, the fundamental characteristics of stock, Czech legislative adjustments, and adjustments according to IAS/IFRS, inventory systems, methods and techniques of valuation, audit procedures and specific audit procedures of supplies.

Šlepecká, Alexandra January 2012 (has links)
Diploma thesis focuses on problematic of inventories from two points of views. First one is focused on Czech Accounting Legislation (CAL) whereas second one is focused on International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS). Diploma thesis consists of many examples to acquaint readers with given topic. Attention is given to definitions, characteristics of inventories, inventories under CAL and IFRS, evidence of inventories and techniques of inventories valuation.
