Development of the Couples Inventories and Testing the Reliability of the Communications Items

Sessions, James K. 01 May 1986 (has links)
This study is a revision of the Marital Inventories so that both self-perception and perception of other data can be collected. The revised inventory, titled the Couples Inventories, was administered to a population of 183 couples comprised mainly of university students from communities across the United States. From the collected data, principal components factor analysis with varimax rotation was used to analyze the items addressing couple communication . This study analyzed data from self-perception and perception of other, as well as including the variables of the respondent's age and gender as a test for structural equivalence. As a test of reliability Theta, a special case of Cronbach Alpha, was calculated for the identified factors. The major findings of this study were: (a) perception of other is critical to the understanding of relationship communication; (b) structural equivalence enables researchers to identify those items that have utility for heterosexual couples at various ages; (c) openness, understanding, problem solving, and conflict management are crucial dimensions of communication; (d) openness is comprised of at least two dimensions; namely, general openness and emotional openness; and (e) understanding is unidimensional as opposed to a continuum ranging from understanding to misunderstanding.

This paper analyzes the adoption of a digital transformation tool to manage inventory through the application of agile models, such as Just-In-Time, and the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), employing the Deming cycle method, as several unclear empiric processes exist for managing inventory and purchases. It also upholds that as defined processes are established and the companies exert higher control over inventory turnover and outflows, they could apply methods, such as demand forecasting, to avoid stockout, supply shortage, and inventory loss.

Development of a leisure/work interest inventory

Frisbie, George R. January 1982 (has links)
The major purpose of this study was to develop an interest inventory that applies to both work and leisure activities. Data were collected from a sample of community college students and community adults enrolled in basic psychology courses. Development of the inventory was based on review of the literature concerning both career and leisure counseling. Specific scales on the inventory were selected deliberately to cover the range of basic interests included in both leisure and career inventories. Interest scales that were retained for the final form of the inventory were based on analysis by qualified judges and a subsequent statistical analysis. Statistical techniques used in analyzing the data include internal consistency estimates, interscale correlation, test-retest reliability estimates and concurrent validity estimates. The results of this study have implications for use of an inventory in career counseling settings that is consistent with contemporary career counseling which includes leisure as an important part. / Ed. Die vertaling, aanpassing en standaardisering van die Kodus belangstellingsvraelys vir Duitssprekende leerlinge van Namibie

Daiber, Karl Heinrich 03 1900 (has links)
Tesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 1992. / Een kopie mikrofiche. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The lack of scientific psychometric aids for use during the critical stages of developmental phases of German-speaking Namibian pupils, necessitated this investigation. When careerrelated decisions like subject, course and career choices are made, most pupils require scientific information about themselves. Of all these sources of information, those pertaining to the measurement of interests play the most significant role in the making of career decisions. By means of the present study an attempt was made to develop an interest questionnaire for German-speaking pupils. The way in which items of Afrikaans and English interest questionnaires were formulated, as well as the vocabulary that was used in these questionnaires, resulted in uncertainties. Insufficient face validity together with irrelevant norms resulted in distorted pictures of pupils' interests with the subsequent non-optimal decisions or doubts regarding the validity of the instruments. Given the Southern African nature of the items of the KODUS-BelangstellingsvraelysjKODUS Interest Questionnaire as well as the more than satisfactory results that were achieved by the thorough research that went into the original standardisation, it was decided to translate and adapt these questionnaires for use with German speaking Namibian pupils. In translating and adapting the questionnaire various factors had to be taken into consideration ·in order to produce an instrument that would measure the same fields of interest as the original Afrikaans·· and English questionnaires. Following a pilot study, it was found that no alterations to the questionnaire would be required. The subsequent standardisation yielded results indicating that the questionnaire was translated and adapted satisfactorily and that it measures the same interest fields as the Afrikaans and English questionnaires. Separate norms had to be compiled for the various sex and standard groups. The "KODUS-Interessenfragebogen (Deutsch)" in its present form is suitable for scientific use with German-speaking pupils of Namibia. / pdv201410

Food item inventory instructional simulation using microcomputers

Cloninger, Barbara J. 01 May 1986 (has links)
The purpose of the research project was to teach the management of perpetual and periodic inventory systems to university students in the field of food systems management through the use of a microcomputer software program developed for this purpose. The objective of the study was to determine the classroom simulation's effectiveness in enhancing students' understanding of inventory systems management. The population sample consisted of 68 students enrolled in a senior level food systems management course at Oregon State University. Simple random sampling was used to divide the population sample into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. All the participants completed a pretest to measure existing knowledge of inventory management concepts. This was followed by two fifty-minute classroom educational modules on the management of perpetual and periodic inventory systems in foodservice facilities. The members of the experimental group participated in using the microcomputer simulation program of food item inventory systems after the classroom modules. All the participants of the experimental and control groups completed a posttest approximately three weeks after the pretest. The difference in pretest mean scores between the experimental and control groups was not significant (P [less than or equal to] .05) as determined by the student's t-test. This indicated the two groups were similar to each other in previous knowledge of inventory management. The difference in posttest adjusted mean scores between the experimental and control groups was significant (P [less than or equal to] .05) as determined by analysis of covariance. Therefore, the microcomputer simulation was effective in enhancing students' understanding of the management of the perpetual and periodic inventory systems. / Graduation date: 1986

ON SOME STATISTICAL PROBLEMS IN INVENTORY SYSTEMS ASSOCIATED WITH MODELING THE LEAD TIME DEMAND.

MYKYTKA, EDWARD FRANK. January 1983 (has links)
This dissertation contains a number of varied, yet closely related, results that are relevant to the construction of mathematical and statistical models of inventory systems. Its primary focus is on the sensitivity of some specific inventory models to errors in certain modeling assumptions. Motivation for this research is provided through the development of analytical expressions that show that the deterministic economic order quantity can be quite sensitive to errors in the forecast of the demand rate whenever the lead time is non-zero. Similar results are provided for the stochastic case by means of a carefully designed experiment that shows that the specific form or "shape" of the distribution chosen to represent the stochastic behavior of the lead time demand can have a significant impact on a minimum cost (Q,R) policy. Together, these results refute the "conventional wisdom" that inventory models are generally insensitive to errors in model specification or parameter estimation. Considerable attention is also given to the postulation of a "robust" model for the lead time demand distribution (LTDD). This discussion culminates with the introduction of a new probability distribution, based on a hyperbolic cosine transformation of normal random variables, that appears to be well-suited for modeling the LTDD. Furthermore, it is concluded that the two- and three-parameter versions of the lognormal and inverse Gaussian distributions can also be considered as viable candidates to model the LTDD in a wide variety of inventory systems. A number of new algorithms for computing optimal (Q,R) policies are also introduced. These significantly reduce both the amount and complexity of computation required by the standard iterative method. Two additional sets of analytical results are chronicled in this work. The first allows the LTDD to be characterized (by its first four moments) on the basis of information about the distributions of the lead time and demand rate. The second expresses the linear loss functions (LLF's) for a number of probability distributions whose LLF's are not readily available in the inventory control literature. Complete and intuitive proofs of these results are included.
