Consumer adoption of internet banking in Jordan: Examining the role of hedonic motivation, habit, self-efficacy and trust

Yes / Despite the rapid growth of Internet banking (IB), customers in developing countries still hesitate to adopt this technology and its use in the Middle East remains low. This study aims to identify and examine the factors that predict behavioural intention and adoption of IB in Jordan. Four factors – hedonic motivation, habit, self-efficacy and trust – are proposed in a conceptual model. Data was collected by means of a survey with bank customers in Jordan. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to analyse the data. The results strongly supported the conceptual model. Further, hedonic motivation, habit, self-efficacy and trust were all confirmed to have a significant influence on behavioural intention. Trust was found to be strongly predicted by both hedonic motivation and self-efficacy. This study provides both academics and practitioners with an insight into the factors that can be used to encourage customer adoption of IB specifically in a Middle East context.

Planning, Budgeting, and Development in Jordan: An Examination of How These Policy Processes Function in a Poor and Uncertain Environment

The purpose of this dissertation is to study the planning and budgeting processes in Jordan to determine whether the findings of Caiden and Wildavsky about those processes in other poor countries generally are applicable to Jordan. An attempt is made to answer the research questions by comparing data from national plans, budgets, and expenditures during a fifteen-year period (1970-1984). In Jordan, as in other developing nations, the role of planning and budgeting is highly significant to the success of the country's hopes for development. This research tries to evaluate the role of planning and budgeting as policy instruments in the process of development in Jordan. The second focus of the dissertation concerns the possibilities and problems of assessing the impact of governmental policies on development. Specifically, an assessment is made to determine the impact of governmental expenditures on development as evidenced in Jordan s gross national product during the last fifteen years. The following questions are addressed in order to examine the impact of government action on economic development. First, what are the impact and significance of government expenditures, as a combined measure, on the gross national product in Jordan? Second, which governmental expenditure areas provide the greatest contribution to an increase in the Jordanian GNP? Data for Jordan are compared with Caiden and Wildavsky's assumptions about planning and budgeting in poor countries, and conclusions are drawn about how planning and budgeting have influenced economic and social development in Jordan.

Identification of competencies for sign designers in Jordan

The aim of this research is to propose ways in which graphic designers can improve the design of commercial signage in Amman, Jordan. A survey of the effectiveness of recent signage regulation in the type and placement of commercial signage has led to the conclusion that regulations alone will not lead to improved quality in the production and siting of commercial signage without multi-stakeholder involvement and the dedicated training of those working in this field. There is a need for practitioners to develop specialised skills and knowledge in sign design, as opposed to applying only generalised graphic design techniques to sign production. Such skills include problem-solving, visual communication methods and competency in the application of the latest multi-media technology. It is proposed that by developing and incorporating sign-design competencies within the graphic design curriculum, practitioners will be better able to work effectively in this field. Following the investigation of the situation in Amman with respect to commercial signage, four related investigations were undertaken in order to formulate a list of recommendations which could be incorporated into an improved curriculum for teaching sign design. The first study investigated the problems caused by poorly designed and situated commercial signage in Amman. The second and third studies investigated urban signage solutions adopted by companies in other parts of the world, namely the global marketing of the McDonald’s brand and the corporate signage of Coventry University UK. The final study was a comparative investigation of graphic design education (with respect to sign design) in Jordan and the UK. Following these investigations, the Delphi technique was employed to elicit a set of 25 competencies for sign design learners, recommended by an expert panel of sign industry professionals and design academics. It is anticipated that the incorporation of such competencies will contribute to the improvements within the sign industry, as designers become better equipped for the task of sign design. Therefore it is anticipated that this research will contribute to the furthering of design practice by identifying the additional knowledge and competencies that graphic designers need to create appropriate commercial signs.

Neste trabalho apresentamos a classificação algébrica e geométrica das álgebras de Jordan de dimensões pequenas sobre um corpo $k$ algebricamente fechado de $char k eq 2$ e sobre o corpo dos números reais. A classificação algébrica foi realizada de duas maneiras: a menos de isomorfismos e a menos de isotopias. Enquanto que a classificação geométrica foi feita estudando as variedades de álgebras de Jordan $Jor_$ para $n \\leq 4$ e $JorR_$ para $n\\leq 3$. Provamos que $Jor_$ tem 73 órbitas sob a ação de $GL(V)$ e que é a união dos fechos de Zariski das órbitas de 10 álgebras rígidas, cada um dos quais corresponde a uma componente irredutível. Analogamente, mostramos que $JorR_$ tem 26 órbitas e é a união dos fechos de Zariski das órbitas de 8 álgebras rígidas. Também obtivemos que o número de componentes irredutíveis em $Jor_$ é $\\geq 26$. Construímos ainda três famílias de álgebras rígidas não associativas, não semisimples e indecomponíveis as quais correspondem a componentes irredutíveis de $Jor_$ e $JorR_$ para todo $n\\geq 5$. / In this work we present the algebraic and geometric classification of Jordan algebras of small dimensions over an algebraically closed field $k$ of $char k eq 2$ and over the field of real numbers. The algebraic classification was accomplished in two ways: up to isomorphism and up to isotopy. On the other hand, the geometric classification was obtained studying the varieties of Jordan algebras $Jor_$ for $n\\leq4$ and $JorR_$ for $n\\leq3$. We prove that $Jor_$ has 73 orbits under the action of $GL(V)$ and it is the union of Zariski closures of the orbits of 10 rigid algebras, each of which corresponds to one irreducible component. Analogously, we show that $JorR_$ has 26 orbits and is the union of Zariski closures of the orbits of 8 rigid algebras. Also we obtain that the number of irreducible components in $Jor_$ is $\\geq26$. We construct three families of indecomposable non-semisimple, non-associative rigid algebras which for any $n\\geq5$, correspond to irreducible components of $Jor_$ and $JorR_$.

In this thesis, we describe the Jordan isomorphisms and Jordan derivations on prime rings of characteristic 2. We prove that every Jordan isomorphism of M_{n}(F),n >= 3 is either an isomorphism or an antiisomorphism if n is odd, and it is not true if n is even. We also describe the Jordan isomorphisms and Jordan derivations on M_{2}(GF(2)).

Le cadre conceptuel de cette recherche se base sur une approche methodologique qualitative guidee par le paradigme socio-contructivist en utilisant une etude de cas. Le but est d'articuler une methode d'enquete basee sur les notions post-modernes qui pronent qu'il existe plus d'une seule interpretation juste de la realite. Cette etude tente d'identifier les forces directrices de la restructuration du systeme d'education superieure en Jordanie afin de jauger de l'ampleur et les dimensions des changements proposes par la reforme. Le but de cette etude est de contribuer et d'elaborer le debat en cours sur l'enseignement superieur dans le contexte de la globalisation. Plus precisement, cette etude vise a developper une vision plus coherente de la situation. Cette elaboration integre les multiples perspectives et forces sous-jacentes de la reforme proposee ainsi que divers impacts de la globalisation. En articulant les relations entre la globalisation et l'etude des besoins proposes par les politiques de reforme de l'enseignement superieur, cette etude suggere qu'il serait plus benefique de capitaliser sur certains aspects de la globalisation et non de la combattre aveuglement. fr

Liberalization in monarchical regimes : the cases of Jordan and Kuwait

Since the late 1980s an increasing amount of literature has attempted to explain liberalization and democratization, or lack thereof, in the Arab world. Theories have developed around such concepts as civil society, state formation and political culture, yet a conclusive theory that could predict the future of these two processes in the Arab world has not emerged. This thesis seeks to add to this body of work by theorizing that regime type---specifically monarchical regimes---may be a useful variable in analyzing political reform in the region and will attempt to explain how and under what conditions some countries will open their political systems. This thesis takes the view that while there has been some indication of liberalization in the Arab world there has been very little evidence of democratization. Evidence of liberalization in Arab monarchies will be shown in case studies of Kuwait and Jordan.
