La presente tesis investiga las causas y los procedimientos mediante los cuales los peruanos judíos instrumentalizaron la profesión médica como mecanismo de movilidad social ascendente en Lima entre 1947 y 2019. Para ello, desde un enfoque histórico cualitativo y un método inductivo, se realizaron entrevistas personales y telefónicas a cuatro cohortes etarias de 27 médicos de diferentes especialidades del campo de la Medicina Humana. Asimismo, se analizaron fuentes documentales primarias y secundarias y tesis –sobre todo en Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades-. El estudio sostiene que los entrevistados se dedicaron a la Medicina por considerarla una ocupación tradicional y una ruta segura de porvenir material y alto estatus social en el convulsionado Perú contemporáneo. Dichos objetivos los consiguieron durante la ampliación educativa por parte del Estado y la sociedad a la luz de la implantación de ordenamientos políticos-ideológicos conocidos como el Estado desarrollista –promotor de la actividad económica desde 1930 hasta 1993- y el Estado neoliberal –subyugado al mercado privado desde 1993-. En ese contexto, el desarrollo vocacional y profesional de los entrevistados estuvo determinado por tres factores estructurales: el estatus, el habitus y la configuración económica y sociocultural del Perú. Con ello, se faculta exponer su agencia histórica al interior de la esfera familiar, amical, educacional, comunitaria y no judía en la búsqueda de convertirse y consolidarse como médicos. / This thesis investigates the causes and procedures by which Jewish Peruvians instrumentalized the medical profession as a mechanism for upward social mobility between 1947 and 2019 in Lima. For this, from a qualitative historical approach and inductive method, personal and telephone interviews were conducted with four age cohorts of 27 physicians from different specialties in the field of Human Medicine. Likewise, primary and secondary documentary sources and thesis were analyzed especially in Social Sciences and Humanities. The study argues that the interviewees dedicated themselves to Medicine, because they considered it a traditional occupation and a safe route to get material future and high social status in the troubled contemporary Peru. These objectives were achieved during the educational expansion by the State and society in the light of the implementation of politicalideological systems known as the developmental State –promoter of the economic activity since 1930 until 1993- and the neoliberal State –subjugated to the private market since 1993-. In this context, the vocational and professional development of the interviewees was determined by three structural factors: status, habitus, and the economic and sociocultural configuration of Peru. With this, it is possible to expose the historical agency of the interviewees within the family, amical, educational, community and non-Jewish spheres in the search to become and consolidate themselves as physicians.
