The Importance of Morally Relevant Facts for a Plausible Theory of Global Justice : A Critical Exploration

Reglitz, Merten January 2007 (has links)

This thesis explores the possibility of formulating an intermediate approach towards global justice. The desired approach should be intermediate in the sense that it is located in the normative space between the two rather exterme philosophical positions of cosmopolitanism and liberal nationalism for reasons explained in the thesis. As it turns out in the argumentation within this thesis it is an appropriate identification of the facts that can be thought morally relevant in the context of global justice which is of crucial importance for achieving this task. This is the case since such morally relevant facts, as will be shown, are decisive not only for making definite sense of the ideals at stake with regard to the issues of global inequality and absolute poverty. They furthermore also are essential for determining normatively appropriate and empirically effective obligations for working towards a more just world.

For that, we use the "Theory of Justice as equality" proposed by Rawls, and the notion of scale present in the works of Luis Salinas Fortes . In this thesis, we have considered Rousseau s ideas, trying to eliminate the possible contradictions of which he is accused. This analysis allows us to identify the degree of remoteness that an university presents to the previous paradigm - presented by Eunice Durham relative to a secular institution, public and of good quality. We intend to demonstrate here that the consensus theory, proposed by Rawls, could have been the only possibility for facing the problems that led the institution here analyzed to be sold to Grupo Empresarial Anhanguera / O presente trabalho tem por objetivo demonstrar a contribuição que a obra de John Rawls oferece para a compreensão dos problemas a serem enfrentados por uma Instituição de Educação Superior após ter abraçado, como solução para seus problemas internos, um gerenciamento do processo de construção do conhecimento de modelo Fordista/Taylorista.
