Total nutrient uptake and partitioning in midsouthern U.S. irrigated soybean

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] biomass and yield has increased over the past several decades in the midsouthern United States; therefore, a better understanding of the nutrient requirements of the crop is needed. Nutrient uptake and partitioning in soybean is fundamental to understanding the physiology of nutrient accumulation relative to crop yield. Technological advances and improved management strategies in soybean production have contributed to significant yield increases. Research was established in 2017 and 2018 in Stoneville, MS, to evaluate soybean nutrient uptake and partitioning across multiple soybean cultivars and two planting dates. Coarse- and fine-textured soils commonly cropped in Mississippi under furrow irrigation were utilized. Soybean total aboveground biomass was collected at multiple growth stages, including V4, R2, R5.5, R6.5, and R8. At reproductive stages R5.5 to R8, soybean aboveground biomass was partitioned into senesced leaves, pods, and seeds. All biomass components were analyzed for content of primary macronutrients. Two soybean cultivars for each of four herbicide-resistant technologies were selected to represent subplot treatments. The greatest yield was produced by dicamba- and glyphosate-tolerant HT, followed by glufosinate tolerant, followed by conventional HT. Soybean planted in April produced grain yield greater than May planted soybean. Averaged across four site years, field removal of total N, P2O5, and K2O partitioned into the seed at physiological maturity was approximately 175 kg N ha-1, 33 kg P2O5 ha-1, and 120 kg K2O ha-1.

The Effect of TiO2 and K2O on Optical Property and Laser-induced Crystallization in Cr-doped silica-based Glass and Glass-ceramics

This thesis mainly studying the impact of TiO2 and K2O these two compounds in the Chromium-doped glasses and glass-ceramics. Due to the method of Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD) of Chromium-doped fiber preform production process, the Ti and K elements have some difficulties; thus, we discuss the influences of these two elements. We hope to improve the composition after knowing these two elements, in order to make the Chromium-doped fiber preform well. We change the weight percent of TiO2 and K2O in the glass composition, in order to observe the influences. Then, we measure their optical and material properties. The results of experiments show that the well-known nucleation agent: TiO2, have no effect of the crystalline phase. However, its function is to help the formation of crystals. We can conclude by the results of X-ray Diffraction (XRD). K2O plays an important role of the Mg2SiO4 phase. To add K2O or not, is the most important reason to affect the Mg2SiO4 phase formation. We will discuss in detail in this thesis about the phase difference for the fluorescence characteristics of Chromium-doped glass and glass-ceramics. What¡¦s more, we use the previously developed two times laser heat-treatment, hoping to successfully apply for Chromium-doped fiber drawing in the future. The laser heat-treatment of CO2-laser can induce the crystal in the glasses. However, this method only needs just a few seconds, which can reduce the cost of heat-treatment. In addition, we can reduce the crystalline size by using the method of two times laser heat-treatment, which can decrease the scattering loss. Also, we will discuss the impact of laser heat-treatment after changing the composition.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / Banco do Nordeste do Brasil / A irrigaÃÃo de lavouras e a sua adequada adubaÃÃo constituem-se nas principais tÃcnicas utilizadas quando se visa o aumento da produtividade nos diferentes cultivos vegetais. Entretanto, pesquisas jà realizadas disponibilizaram poucas informaÃÃes quanto à aplicaÃÃo de Ãgua e do macronutriente potÃssio (K) no cultivo da videira. Em consequÃncia, com o objetivo de avaliar a produtividade e as caracterÃsticas biomÃtricas da videira (Vitis vinifera L.) sob diferentes lÃminas de irrigaÃÃo, sob diferentes intervalos e crescentes nÃveis de adubaÃÃo potÃssica, aplicadas via fertirrigaÃÃo, trÃs experimentos foram realizados concomitantemente no municÃpio de Limoeiro do Norte - CE (05Â06âS, 37Â52âW, 151 m), no perÃodo de setembro/08 a janeiro/09. O delineamento experimental utilizado nos trÃs experimentos foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetiÃÃes. No experimento 1, testou-se cinco diferentes lÃminas de irrigaÃÃo quantificadas em funÃÃo da evaporaÃÃo medida no tanque classe âAâ (ECA): 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% e 150% da ECA. No experimento 2, estudou-se cinco intervalos de fertirrigaÃÃo potÃssica, sendo estes: tratamento 01, as fertirrigaÃÃes ocorreram a cada 2 dias; tratamento 02, as fertirrigaÃÃes ocorreram a cada 4 dias; tratamento 03, as fertirrigaÃÃes ocorreram a cada 6 dias; tratamento 04, as fertirrigaÃÃes ocorreram a cada 8 dias e tratamento 05, as fertirrigaÃÃes ocorreram a cada 10 dias. No experimento 3, analisou-se seis nÃveis de fertirrigaÃÃo potÃssica: 0%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% e 150% da recomendaÃÃo utilizada pela agroempresa (368 kg.ha-1 de K2O). AtravÃs do software âSAEG 9.0 â UFVâ, os dados foram submetidos à anÃlise de variÃncia e posteriormente quando significativos pelo teste F realizou-se a anÃlise de regressÃo, buscando-se ajustar equaÃÃes com significados biolÃgicos. No experimento 1 concluiu-se que as variÃveis nÃmero de cachos por planta, tamanho do cacho, nÃmero de bagas, teor de sÃlidos solÃveis totais e produtividade apresentaram diferenÃas estatÃsticas significativas, sendo que todas estas variÃveis, excetuando o teor de sÃlidos solÃveis, obtiveram o seu maior valor com a maior lÃmina de irrigaÃÃo experimental. Neste experimento constatou-se que o modelo linear foi o mais adequado para explicar as variÃveis analisadas. No experimento 2, os intervalos de fertirrigaÃÃo nÃo influenciaram diretamente na produtividade da videira, mas possibilitaram diferenÃas estatÃsticas significativas para as variÃveis massa mÃdia dos cachos, largura dos cachos e nÃmero de bagas. Jà no experimento 3, os diferentes nÃveis de fertirrigaÃÃo potÃssica avaliados proporcionaram diferentes respostas nas caracterÃsticas produtivas da videira, sendo estatisticamente significativas as anÃlises das variÃveis nÃmero de cachos por planta, massa mÃdia dos cachos, massa mÃdia de 10 bagas, largura da baga, teor de sÃlidos solÃveis totais e produtividade. Em todas as variÃveis analisadas nos experimentos 2 e 3, foi encontrado que o modelo polinomial quadrÃtico como o mais adequado para explicar o comportamento das caracterÃsticas biomÃtricas. / The irrigation of crops and their proper fertilization are on the main techniques used when it is aimed at increasing productivity in the different vegetable crops. However, previous studies have provided little information regarding the application of water and macronutrient potassium (K) in the cultivation of the vine. As a result, in order to evaluate the productivity and biometric characteristics of the grape (Vitis vinifera L.) under different irrigation levels and in different intervals and increasing levels of potassium applied through fertigation, three trials were conducted concurrently in the city of Limoeiro do Norte -CE (05Â06âS, 37Â52âW,151 m), in the period of September/08 to January/09. The experimental design used in all experiments was a randomized block design with four replications. In experiment 1, we tested five different irrigation quantified on the basis of the class âAâ pan evaporation: 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% and 150% of the class âAâ pan evaporation. In experiment 2, we studied five different interval of fertigation potassium, which are: treatment 01, the fertigation occurred every 2 days, treatment 02, the fertigation occurred every 4 days, treatment 03, the fertigation occurred every 6 days, treatment 04, the fertigation occurred every 8 days and treatment 05, the fertigation occurred every 10 days. In experiment 3, we analyzed six levels of potassium fertigation: 0%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% and 150% of the recommendation used by agribusiness (368 kg.ha- 1 of K2O). Through the software SAEG 9.0 - UFV, the data were subjected to analysis of variance and significant later when the F test was carried out regression analysis, trying to adjust equations with biological meanings. In experiment 1 it was concluded that the varying number of clusters per plant, size of the bunch, number of berries, total soluble solids and yield significantly different, with all these variables, except the soluble solids, obtained its peak with the greatest water depth experimental. In this experiment it was found that the linear model was best suited to explain the variables. In experiment 2, the intervals of fertigatio n did not affect directly the productivity of the vine, but allowed statistically significant differences for the variables average mass of clusters, width and number of clusters of berries. In the experiment 3, the different levels of potassium fertigation evaluated produced different responses in the productive characteristics of the vine, being statistically significant, analysis of variable number of clusters per plant, average weight of the bunches, the mean weight of 10 berries, berry width, content s oluble solids and productivity. In all variables in experiments 2 and 3, we found that the quadratic polynomial model as the most adequate to explain the behavior of biometrics.
