The developmental history of keel-boat activities in TaiwanHuang, Tai-wei 09 September 2010 (has links)
To be an island, Taiwan owns an abundant ocean environment, therefore, it is good to develop varied marine activities. Keel-boat is one of the important activities just budding from the branch.
Our study explored the development of keel-boat activity in Taiwan, following with an analysis framework of four-function development, i.e., leisure, sports, education, and industry. Methods of case study and qualitative skills, such as interviews, documentary analysis, and observation were used in this study, including applying on varied actors, i.e., governmental units, NGOs, business, and individuals. Data was analyzed under the four-function framework and some results had been produced as the following:
1. Leisure and sports are dominant functions of keel-boat activity in the post development. However, leisure should be the future developing direction.
2. The actors in private sector play an important role to promote keel-boat leisure.
3. Some regulations needed to be changed for the development of keel-boat activity.

Development Of A Proof-Of-Concept Backpackable Unmanned Aerial VehicleWalker, Calvin Russell 05 August 2006 (has links)
This thesis documents the design and development of a robust backpackable proof-of-concept unmanned aerial vehicle. The unmanned aerial vehicle?s design departs from existing configurations in utilizing a keel beam fuselage which replaces the enclosed fuselage by a flat keel beam on which the sensors, the autopilot, their related power sources, and flight control systems are mounted. The keel beam fuselage is provides enhanced mounting capability for multiple sensors and quick reconfiguration in the field. The keel beam fuselage can also be manufactured quicker than a traditional enclosed fuselage. The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the keel beam configuration is a viable design for an unmanned aerial vehicle and the challenges of modular, plug-n-play hardware. The design, fabrication, and flight testing of the air vehicle are addressed.

Full Scale Investigation of Bilge Keel Effectiveness at Forward SpeedGrant, David J. 03 June 2008 (has links)
Ship motions in a seaway have long been of great importance, and today with advanced hull forms and higher speeds they are as important as ever. While one can now often adequately predict heave, pitch, sway, yaw and even surge, roll motions are much more difficult. Roll is the one motion that is very dependent upon viscous effects of the fluid. Recently, at David Taylor Model Basin, there have been model experiments where the bilge keels were instrumented in order to directly measure their damping force upon the vessel. To build upon this work and to validate it when applied to full scale vessels, a trial using the Italian naval vessel Nave Bettica was performed.
The objective of this thesis is to describe the experiment, present and analyze the results, and offer some conclusions based upon these results. The process of instrumenting the port bilge keel using strain gages and correlating their output to pressures and total forces is described. Selected results for different forward speeds are presented, with full results in the appendices. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) was also performed during the test and was used to measure the flow field in a three foot by three foot area under the aft end of the same bilge keel. Selected image series are presented, as is a methodology for using these images to calculate the center of pressure and the corresponding results. / Master of Science

Dynamic Under Keel Clearance(DUKC) : Ökat godsflöde i svenska hamnar samt bibehållen sjötransportsäkerhetAxelsson, Jesper, Nordström, Kristian January 2008 (has links)
