Wellness tourism: through the lens of millennials' attitude : An exploratory qualitative study

Agrodimou, Anamela January 2019 (has links)
Abstract Background:        In recent years a rising concern towards health enhancement activities has been prominent across populations, leading to the emergence of a multi-dollar industry, namely the wellness industry, which spans across a wide spectrum of sectors, ranging from organic food to tourism. In fact, wellness tourism has been growing at an exponential rate, generating high revenues, forecast to rise. Given that millennials have been gradually replacing former generations, in volume size, it becomes evident why this age cohort has garnered massive media attention worldwide. Purpose: Nevertheless, although wellness tourism industry has sparked the attention of academic scholars and industry professionals, scant academic research has been conducted on the wellness travel attitude of this age cohort. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the attitude of millennials’ towards wellness travelling.                            Method:              For the purpose of this study, a qualitative research comprised of 11 in-depth semi-structured interviews was conducted within a sample of individual’s aged 23-35. Conclusion:          The results of this research indicated that this generational segment displayed a particular travel attitude towards wellness tourism, which can be understood from a cognitive, affective, and conative angle. Overall, the main cognitive associations and thoughts with wellness tourism entailed the notion of relaxation, and health-enhancement, whilst the core emotions experienced ranged from inner fulfillment, and happiness to nostalgia and serenity. The main benefits sought involved, escape from daily life and stress relief, which are consistent with prior studies. It was clear from this study that millennials are price-sensitive, and they cherish the variety of activities along with the novelty of experiences when travelling for wellness. This research also sheds light on the most frequently employed travel platforms and channels of communication, which can provide tourism marketing specialists and industry professionals with constructive recommendations in terms of advertising and communication of wellness travel offerings. However, due to time constraints, this study was subject to certain limitations, which hinder the generalizability of results across broader populations and diverse wellness travelers. Future research is thus much anticipated and needed to dig deeper into this lucrative market.

A Morphological Study of PFCB-Ionomer/ PVdF Copolymer Blend Membranes For Fuel Cell Application

May, Nathanael Henderson 22 September 2011 (has links)
A new material for use as a proton exchange membrane in fuel cells has been developed: a blend of a perfluorocyclobutane-based block ionomer (S-PFCB) and Poly (vinylidene-co-hexafluoropropylene) (Kynar Flex, KF). This thesis details the work done thus far to characterize the morphology of this material, using small angle x-ray scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, atomic force micrscopy, and some other techniques to a lesser extent. Small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) of pure S-PFCB showed a strong block copolymer- associated phase separation, on the order of 25 nm. Differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC) confirmed this finding. SAXS also revealed the presence of a peak representing individual ionic aggregates on the order of 3 nm. Finally, it was shown with DSC that no crystallinity develops in the S-PFCB block copolymer, while one of the blocks, known as 6F, crystallizes extensively. SAXS of incremental blend compositions of KF and S-PFCB revealed a steady increase in size of the block copolymer phase separation peak in SAXS, demonstrative of the miscibility of KF and the non-sulfonated 6F block of S-PFCB. Furthermore, this incremental study determined the scattering vector range relevant for comparing amounts of KF crystallinity. DSC of incremental blend compositions revealed two phases of KF crystallinity develops upon cooling a membrane, independent of cooling rate. Atomic force microscopy (AFM), small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) corroborate to suggest a nonuniform morphology through the thickness of solution cast membranes. Also, the effect of different casting temperatures and after-casting anneals on morphology was assessed. Future work on this project involves morphological studies at various relative humidities and temperatures, as well as following up on discoveries already made. Finally, transmission electron micrscopy (TEM) should be performed to provide a visual analog, which will greatly help in developing an accurate morphological model. / Master of Science

An annotated and critical glossary of the terminology of inclusion in healthcare and health research

Islam, Shahid, Small, Neil A. 28 November 2020 (has links)
Yes / The importance of including members of the public has been accorded a significant position in health planning, service delivery and research. But this position masks a lack of clarity about terms that are used. This paper identifies terms that are in common use in the lexicon of community based involvement and engagement in health with the intention of clarifying meaning and thus reducing ambiguity. We define and distinguish between key terms related to inclusion, we consider the terminology attached to community processes and to the challenges of inclusion and we engage with the strengths and weaknesses of the commonly used metaphor of "a ladder of participation". We wish to contribute to the clear communication of intentions, challenges and achievements in pursuing varied forms of inclusion in health.

DALTONSKÝ PLÁN, jeho realizace a aplikace jako vyučovacího systému / DALTON PLAN, its realization and application as of a System of Education

CHLEBNÍČKOVÁ, Petra January 2007 (has links)
DALTON PLAN, its application and realization as of an educational system This work brings results of a survey of the realization and application of the dalton plan as of an educational system in czech and foreign schools. It concentrates on the impact of the enforcement of the principles of this system on school teachers and directors but mainly on students and their parents. It characterizes the specifications of the dalton plan in the Czech Republic and contrasts them, above all, with dalton in Holland but also with other countries in the world. The theoretical part of this work summarizes facts concerning history, principles, personalities and places connected with dalton. The practical part follows the ultimate methods used at different school stages, benefits and problems linked with application of dalton methods at schools. This work also involves some ideas and quotes some teachers of the dalton schools, which I have visited during my school practice and while collecting data for this work. The picture apendix of this work is an actual evidence of a real life of a dalton school in the Czech Republic.

The selected texts all feature a child protagonist in a difficult life situation with regards to their immediate or wider family circle. The vantage point was primarily the ouvre of M. Zinnerová, particularly the titles Indiáni z Větrova ('The Indians from Větrov'), Tajemství proutěného košíku ('The Secret of the Woven Basket'), and Kde padají hvězdy ('Where Stars Fall'). The dissertation is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part contains first a description of the general characteristics of narrative prose from the life of children with an emphasis on the issues of personal and social education. Furthermore, it focuses in detail on the utilisation of prose in literary education in primary schools, the methodology and different types of literary analysis and the insertion of all these activities into the relevant curriculum. The practical part deals with concrete classical and activising methods of application with regards to select texts from M. Zinnerová's works. The aim of the dissertation was to create work sheets based on excerpts from the prose of this author and to test them in practice in the environment of an after-school care centre where primary school children were to engage with them. This part of the dissertation describes said work sheets as well as the procedural methodology and the reasoning behind their creation. The work sheets were used when working with 3rd -grade school children in an after-school care centre. The ways in which they cooperated with us and were captivated by the texts, as well as the precise way in which the activities involved in working with the proposed sheets proceeded are described in the following chapter of the practical part. The concluding reflection upon the utilisation of the work sheets proposes certain possible corrections, expansions or other possible uses of these work sheets.
