Effects of Alternative Seating on Children with Disabilities

Hoofman, Jessica 01 November 2018 (has links)
Children with disabilities in school settings often display problem behavior. These challenging behaviors can be inattention, disruptions in class, difficulties with transitions between tasks, and low task motivation. These types of behaviors can lead to problems for the students with their peers, teachers, and school staff. One way to decrease problem behavior is to implement antecedent manipulations to prevent problem behavior from ever occurring. One type of antecedent manipulation is using alternative seating in the classroom, such as stability balls or stabili-t stools. However, little research has been conducted to evaluate different types of alternative seating, therefore this study used an alternating treatments design to evaluate the effects of stability balls versus stabili-t stools on in-seat and on-task behavior in an academic setting. Results indicated increases in both in-seat and on-task behavior with the use of both alternative types of seating. In-seat behavior increased more substantially then on-task behavior with alternative seating. Social validity results indicated that stability balls were not well liked by teachers and therapists, however the stabili-t stools were found to be acceptable. Both types of alternative seating were chosen by participants in the choice phase, however the stabili-t stool was chosen more often.

Woven in Stone: The Use of Symmetry Analysis Methodology to Determine Underlying Patterns of Symmetry in the Polychrome Painted Decorations on Some Athenian Korai

Thomson, Ainslie Elizabeth 01 February 2008 (has links)
Many studies of the Archaic Greek kore focus exclusively on stylistic considerations in an attempt to date these statues more and more accurately. Other studies propose various meanings for the kore. Each of these approaches can be extremely subjective, with the result that the large body of extant literature about the kore tends to be repetitive and argumentative in nature, and, with several exceptions, does not advance the understanding of the kore to any appreciable degree past where it had developed by the 1980s. I use a different, more empirical methodology to study a small group of korai, found in the 1880s near the Erechtheion on the Athenian Akropolis. Symmetry analysis of the patterns painted onto these korai at the time of their creation reveals both consistency of pattern use through the period of seventy years between c560 BCE and c490 BCE, as well as some anomalous patterns. I tabulate the various patterns, as well as their frequency of occurrence, and briefly speculate that there is a correlation between the pattern consistencies and anomalies and events in the known historical record, such as the mid-6th century rule by the Peisistratids and the democratic reforms of Kleisthenes. I also propose other directions in which the study of the kore could be taken using symmetry analysis. / Thesis (Master, Classics) -- Queen's University, 2008-01-31 13:25:56.567

Korè-Perséphone en Attique : une divinité entre deux mondes / Kore-Persephone in Attica : a divinity between two worlds

Dimou, Alexandra 24 February 2012 (has links)
The study focuses on aspects of the myth of Kore-Persephone referring to Attica, its worship and its presence outside the civic religion. The first part focuses on the myth of Kore and different suggestions for the etymologies of names proposed by the Elders. The second part focuses on festivals and cults of Attica where Kore appears alone or alongside of Demeter: the Thesmophoria, the Eleusinian Mysteries, the lesser mysteries of Agra, Skira and Haloa, local Thesmophoria and Eleusinian worships, shrines and sacred sites related to the goddess. The third part is dedicated to the place of the goddess in magic, in Dionysian or Orphic religious connections (Society of Iobacchoi) and Artemidorus’ treatise on oneirocriticism. The fourth part contains the corpus of texts referenced in the work (literary sources, inscriptions and papyrus). An appendix is devoted to the image of Kore-Persephone in the works of Porphyry.

Geodinamička analiza pomeranja Zemljine kore regionalnog karaktera / A geodynamical analysis of Earth's crust movements of regional character

Sušić Zoran 08 March 2014 (has links)

Stanje Zemljine kore određeno je istovremenim i suprotstavljenim uticajem
endodinamičkih i egzodinamičkih procesa. Površinski slojevi omotača
Zemljine kore su u stalnom pokretu pod dejstvom uticaja, kao što su
promena nivoa podzemnih voda, tektonske pojave, klizišta itd. Značajne
deformacije mogu se javiti kao posledica niza regionalnih i lokalnih
naponskih stanja, posebno u graničnim zonama litosfernih ploča, gde se
akumuliraju naponi i javljaju nelinearne innterseizmičke deformacije. U
disertaciji je prikazano istraživanje pomeranja Zemljine kore regionalnog
karaktera sa geodetskog aspekta, na osnovu ponovljenih opažanja metodom
satelitskog pozicioniranja, čime je dat doprinos multidisciplinarnom
razumevanju stanja Zemljine kore.
/
The state of the Earth’s crust is determined by the simultaneous and opposed
influence of the endodynamic and exodynamic processes. The surface layers of
the Earth’s crust envelope are in the state of permanent moving due to divers
influences, such as the level variation of underground waters, tectonic
phenomena, landslides, etc. Significant deformations can arise as a consequence
of a number of regional and local strain states, especially in the boundary zones
of lithosphere plates where strains are accumulated and non-linear interseismic
deformations appear. The subject of the thesis is a study of movements of the
Earth’s crust of regional character from the aspect of geodesy, on the basis of
repeated observations by applying the satellite positioning method. In this way a
contribution is given to a multidisciplinary concept of the state of the Earth’s crust.
