The thesis highlights the literary-critical work of Jan Lopatka in the context of his personal library. It is a literary-historical and critical description of his work by characterizing and defining thematic blocks, which Lopatka systematically pursued in his personal library. It centers on a comparison of the significance of his work and pinpoints defined blocks in Lopatka's library fund and their significance in his literary criticism. Based on a complete inventory of his personal library (prepared by the author of this thesis) and its knowledge, research characterizes his work mainly from this perspective. Attention will also be paid to manuscripts, typescripts and notes in his books.

The topic of this thesis is Play Strindberg (1969), a play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, which is an adaptation of Strindberg's drama The Dance of Death (1901). The thesis first discusses the context of the play's origin and the reactions to its first showing. It then goes on to analyze nine Czech theatrical productions of Play Strindberg and also one made by the Czech television. The main part of the thesis presents a detailed criticism of two of the drama's translations (1969 and 1989) based on Katharina Reiß' translation analysis model. Both translations meet the requirements for a functional translation. Curriculum vitas of translators Bohumil Černík (*1924) and Jiří Stach (*1930) are also enclosed.

The presented Master's thesis, titled "Otakar Šourek (1883-1956) - Music critic and writer", deals with Otakar Šourek, the author of the most extensive monograph on Antonín Dvořák to date. Šourek played a significant role in the musical life of the first Czechoslovak Republic (1918 - 1938). He worked for numerous music institutions and wrote music reviews, articles and studies for many journals and magazines, as well as books. On the basic of the description of Šourek's public work and his engagement in several music "scandals" in the first Czechoslovak Republic, the thesis strives to evaluate Šourek's position amid the musical life of the time and characterise him as a music critic. The thesis draws upon the study of source materials from Otakar Šourek's personal effects, deposited at the National Museum - Czech Museum of Music, and study of the period press. The master thesis presents the personality and the work of theatre critic Josef Kuffner whose critical activities belong in the period of the birth of czech dramatical realism and reflect the first era of the Prague National Theatre production. Based on analyses of Kuffner's diaries, the thesis explains his requirement concerning staging, dramatical text, acting and scenography. The published collections analysis explains his attitude to theoretical questions of czech theatre and dramatical praxis and thus his importance for czech theatrology. The thesis also presents Kuffner's polemic with opinions of F.X. Šalda, one of the most important critic of the period.

Büchnerovo drama "Vojcek" v českých překladech / Georg Büchner's Drama "Woyzeck" in Czech translations

The topic of this thesis is Georg Büchner's fragmentary drama Woyzeck. At the beginning, the work presents the playwright's biography set in the historical context and his work. It continues with the circumstances of Woyzeck's origin, the plot summary, description of the language of the play and problems with edition and decoding the manuscripts. The next part talks about the different concepts of Woyzeck in Czech theatres and what the reactions of the audience and the critics were. The work also briefly deals with Alban Berg's opera Wozzeck, the libretto and the reaction of the Czech audience. The focus of this thesis are the translations into Czech, especially a detailed analysis and comparison of Rudolf Vápeník's and Ludvík Kundera's translations. The analysis is based on Katharina Reiß' translation analysis model. Only Kundera's translation was found to be a functional one, Vápeník's translation is - according to the author of the thesis - obsolete.

This diploma thesis "The Art Journal Ateliér from its foundation to the present" goes into the semimonthly art-oriented Ateliér magazine being issued from 1988 to December 2015. The work looks about historical context of period 1980 and 1990 until the first decade of the new millennium. The thesis, in detail, is focused on Ateliér magazine publishing in years 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 2000 and 2008. The most detailed there are analyzed years 2012 and 2015, the crucial years, in light of magazine financial crisis. In 2010 the magazine got into financial trouble that culminated at at the end of 2015, the time the periodical had made a request for liquidation. 1. January 2016 the magazine entered into liquidation. In all surveyed years the attention is focused on the editorial staff, the graphic design and the semimonthly Ateliér magazine content. The most detailed is the magazine analyzed in 2012 and 2015 by using the analyses of all authorial texts there, there will be presented story writers contents from among the editorial staff and externals who had participated in both editions. An attention is paied to those authors writting in the periodicals,on how many there were in total and on how many times they wrote in the magazine in one year. The objective of this thesis is the analysis of the media reception of chosen works of Italo Calvino in Czech and Italian periodicals. The first chapter discusses the literary criticism. The following chapter introduces the writer's life and moments determining his literary production. The mainstay of this work is divided into four chapters and is dedicated to the period literary crticism of the works chosen which were released in newspapers or literary periodicals both in Italy and the Czech Republic. The most significant reception showed the books The Path of the Spider's Nest, Invisible Cities, If on a Winter's Night a Traveler and Six Memos for the Next Millenium.
