Iterative detection, decoding, and channel estimation in MIMO-OFDM

Ylioinas, J. (Jari) 31 May 2010 (has links)
Abstract Iterative receiver techniques, multiple-input – multiple-output (MIMO) processing, and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are amongst the key physical layer technologies when aiming at higher spectral efficiency for a wireless communication system. Special focus is put on iterative detection, decoding, and channel estimation for a MIMO-OFDM system. After designing separately efficient algorithms for the detection, channel decoding, and channel estimation, the objective is to optimize them to work together through optimizing the activation schedules for soft-in soft-out (SfISfO) components. A list parallel interference cancellation (PIC) detector is derived to approximate an a posteriori probability (APP) algorithm with reduced complexity and minimal loss of performance. It is shown that the list PIC detector with good initialization outperforms the K-best list sphere detector (LSD) in the case of small list sizes, whereas the complexities of the algorithms are of the same order. The convergence of the iterative detection and decoding is improved by using a priori information to also recalculate the candidate list, aside from the log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) of the coded bits. Unlike in pilot based channel estimation, the least-squares (LS) channel estimator based on symbol decisions requires a matrix inversion in MIMO-OFDM. The frequency domain (FD) space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) channel estimator calculates the LS estimate iteratively, avoiding the matrix inversion with constant envelope modulation. The performance and computational complexity of the FD-SAGE channel estimator are compared to those of pilot based LS channel estimation with minimum mean square error (MMSE) post-processing exploiting the time correlation of the channel. A time domain (TD) SAGE channel estimator is derived to avoid the matrix inversion in channel estimation based on symbol decisions for MIMO-OFDM systems also with non-constant envelope modulation. An obvious problem, with more than two blocks in an iterative receiver, is to find the optimal activation schedule of the different blocks. It is proposed to use extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts to characterize the behavior of the receiver blocks and to find out the optimal activation schedule for them. A semi-analytical expression of the EXIT function is derived for the LS channel estimator. An algorithm is proposed to generate the EXIT function of the APP algorithm as a function of the channel estimate’s mutual information (MI). Surface fitting is used to get closed form expressions for the EXIT functions of the APP algorithm and the channel decoder. Trellis search algorithms are shown to find the convergence with the lowest possible complexity using the EXIT functions. With the proposed concept, the activation scheduling can be adapted to prevailing channel circumstances and unnecessary iterations will be avoided.

Test-lists Utilization in Test Driven Development : The Role of test-lists in Requirements Traceability / Test-lists Utilization in Test Driven Development : The Role of test-lists in Requirements Traceability

Khan, Hassan Mahmood, Arshad, Ibrar January 2012 (has links)
Context: In recent times, many organizations have started using agile software development methodologies instead of using traditional methodologies. The main reason for this shift is the ability of agile approaches to cope with changes in the requirements, customer satisfaction and assurance of on-time delivery of quality products [19]. Test-Driven Development (TDD) is a software development methodology that is considered to be one of the most prominent practices of eXtreme Programming (XP) (an agile methodology) [1][9][10]. Test-list in TDD is considered as a temporary repository in which test items are stored and later by using those items test cases are developed. Requirements Traceability is also a major problem in agile development mainly because of lack of formal requirements specification and frequent requirements change. Objectives: This study explores the utilization of test-list and possibility of using test-list for requirements traceability in TDD. This study describes concept of test-list, its formation and exploring its utilization in TDD. Methods for implementing requirements traceability in and identification of possibility of utilizing test-list for requirements traceability in TDD is also explored. Methods: Methods used in this study are systematic literature review, surveys and interviews. Systematic literature review was done using seven electronic databases, including Inspec, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, Springer, Science Direct and Scopus. Studies were selected on the bases of preliminary, basic and advanced developed criteria. Survey was conducted using online questionnaire from TDD practitioners. Findings from literature review and surveys were used to develop interview questionnaires. Interviews were conducted from the same practitioners that were involved in surveys. Results: Based on the findings of literature review, questionnaire and interviews, we obtained TDD practices for test-list development and requirements traceability. Analysis was performed on results of SLR and questionnaire and possibility of using test-list for requirements traceability was identified. Based on the analysis of literature review and surveys, interview questionnaire were developed to further investigate the area of interest. We have found that in literature there is no defined method to develop test-list. and survey participants also confirms it. Majority of survey participants create test-list temporarily and informal. On question of whether test-list can be use for requirements traceability around 70% of participants are agree for its use. Interview respondents also confirm the findings of survey. Conclusions: Literature has not provided any test-list development method and practitioners also have no clear guideline to develop test-list prior to Test development. Systematic literature review and practitioner’s survey and interviews confirm it. Literature is also silent for any specific requirements change management or requirements traceability method in TDD. We identified requirements traceability practices in agile and management through literature and survey. After analysis of gathered data we found TDD lacks in test-list formalization, none of the study focuses on requirements traceability in TDD. In this study our contribution is exploration of test-list creation and utilization through literature and state of the practice; after practitioners feedback we also explored that test-list can be used for requirements traceability. / hasmkh@gmail.com, ibrararshad@gmail.com

Design and Implementation of a Traffic Model and a Stimuli Generator for OCN SoCBUS Architecture / Design och implementering av en trafikmodell och en stimuligenerator för ett nätverk på ett chip (SoCBUS)

Wallin, Joakim January 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this report is to implement and evaluate parts of the simulation software used in the SoCBUS project. In order to complete and evaluate the entire software package, a traffic model and a stimuli generator must be implemented. They are implemented and evaluated together with the entire simulator software. The purpose of the Traffic model is to model communication traffic as good and descriptive as possible. The output of the Traffic model is called a test case, which works as input for the Stimuli generator. The Stimuli generator computes and creates an event list for the Simulator. This report will investigate and motivate the presented traffic model and stimuli generator in detail. The simulator software is then tested with two separate test cases in order to investigate if the simulator software works properly. The results are promising and the simulator software behaves as expected.

Podíl ve společnosti s ručením omezeným jako předmět právních vztahů, kmenový list / Share in a limited liability company as a subject of legal relations; equity certificate

Joklíková, Kateřina January 2016 (has links)
Share in a limited liability company as a subject of legal relations; equity certificate The master thesis analyses the issue of the transfer of a share in a limited liability company including the possibility to incorporate a share into an equity certificate. The main purpose of this study is to introduce in detail the different phases of the tranfer of a share, an equity certificate and draw attention to several interpretative problems related to the new law of business corporations. Besides the applicable law, which is purposefully subjected to the comparison with legal regulation before the recodification of private law, the work examines the legal literature, including periodicals, and still aplicable case law of the Czech courts. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter looks briefly at a share in a limited liability company and its definition as a subject of legal relations. The second chapter deals with the modes of the transfer of a share and the preconditions of its realization in the form of obtaining the relevant permissions. This section also outlines possible consequences of not giving the necessary consents with the transfer. The core of the third chapter represents the share transfer agreement, its formal and subject matter requirements. There are also mentioned...

Podíl ve společnosti s ručením omezeným jako předmět právních vztahů, kmenový list / Share in a limited liability company as an object of legal relations, equity instrument

Jiroušková, Bohuslava January 2015 (has links)
The private limited liability company, as the most frequently used type of business corporation in the Czech Republic, has recently undergone significant changes concerning its legal regulations due to the recodification of private law. This thesis focuses on the share in the limited liability company and the equity instrument (the share certificate), by which the share can be represented, along with the transfer of the share. The treatises aims to identify interpretational disputes arising from the recently enacted civil and corporation codes and, while using resources available at the moment, attempts to adumbrate possible outcomes and solutions. The work itself is divided into five chapters. First chapter provides general description of the notion of the share in the limited liability company and defines its nature. Further, possible variations of issue of shares in the limited liability company such as issue of different classes of shares and the option of ownership of multiple shares in one company are examined. In the second chapter, the concept of the share as a thing in itself (personal property) and the selected implications of this concept are discussed. The focus is aimed on topics, which appear to be highly questionable. Third chapter introduces the institute of the equity instrument...

The pain limitation list (PLL): a study of concurrent validity and relationship between PLL and age and gender

Stengård, Maja January 2017 (has links)
Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the concurrent validity between Pain Limitation List (PLL) and Functional Disability Inventory (FDI), the association between PLL and age and FDI and age, the difference between gender in PLL and FDI and possible floor or roof effects in the two tests. Method: The study was a cross-sectional study and had a descriptive correlational and comparative design. 86 children with chronic pain participated in the study. Result: The study showed that PLL had a concurrent validity with FDI (r=-0,740), p<0,001). There was a weak correlation between FDI and age (r=0,249, p<0,021) but PLL did not have a correlation with age and there was no difference between gender in PLL or in FDI. Also, there was no floor or roof effect for the two tests but it seems that PLL is slightly more sensitive for children and adolescents with less pain-related disability. Conclusion: according to this study, PLL has a concurrent validity. But to be able to use PLL as a reliable instrument, more studies who explore reliability and other types of validity is needed.
