Assessment of skills and experience impacting on commercial farming among black farmers in Bojanala District, North West / M.J MolokwaneMolokwane, M J January 2010 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this was to assess skills and experience in commercial farming
among black farmers; identify s kills required in commercial farming among black farmers;
and empirically gain an insight of experience and constraints black farmers face in
commercial farming.
Design/methodology/approach : Qualitative and quantitative data collection methods were
used. Qualitatively, 12 participants were interviewed and 41 participants answered a closed-ended
questionnaire. The following variables were used to assess black farmers' s kills in
commercial farming: skills in farm management principles; skills in decision making science;
skills in farm record keeping; skills in farm risk management; skills in creating a competitive
advantage for a farm business; skills in farm financial management; and experiences and
constraints facing black commercial farmers.
Findings: It was found in this study that there is a significant deficiency in black farmer '
skills in commercial farming. The study further found that black farmers require skills in
farm management principles, decision making science in farming, farm record keeping, risk
management in farming, creating a competitive advantage for a farm business and farm
financial management. In terms of their experience from their successes and failures, black
farmers perceive that they need to be committed and determined, to have passion, patience
and perseverance, and need to work collectively in farming business.
Research limitations/implications: A number of participants in both methods of collecting
data limited the generalization of results. However, bridging of skills gap among black
farmers could improve on their current practice in commercial farming. In their own
experiences continuous support from relevant structures could impact positively in their
commercial farming. / Thesis (MBA) North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2010

Land restitution in Morebene Community within the Molemole Local Municipality : an analysis of land restitution processesRathaha, Radipatla Thomas 03 April 2014 (has links)
Land reform in South Africa is premised on land restitution. land redistribution and
security of terlllre as its major components. It has the following objectives amongst
others, to address the injustices of racially-based land dispossession; inequitable
distribution ofland ownership; need for security of tenure for all: need for sustainable use
of land: need [or rapid release of land for development: need to record and register all
rights in property: and the need to administer public land in an effective manner.
Over two decades of the democratic dispensation, lack of proper funding and capacity by
government official to expedite the land reform processes deprives the rural communities
like the Morebene community the enjoyment of their land rights and proper redress after
devastating land dispossession. The research has managed to establish the serious pain
and suffering that has been brought by incompetent implementation of six phases of land
restitution process by Limpopo RLCC to the commuillty of Morebeoe. Lack of capacity
to implement land restitution processes has been found to have been a major setback to
lhe Morebene communjty to an extent that their restitution processes were abandoned by
the Limpopo RLCC at project execution stage.
The community composed of nearly 81% of rhe youth and middle aged people bas been
left without jobs and no property rights and development all of which are caused by the
lack of expertise from the oHicials of the RLCC. No restitution grants and development
gTants were granted to the community and no formal or informal training let alone
workshops held in relation to the government"s expectations from the land reform
policies and legislation. / Development Studies / M.A. (Development Studies)

The impact of performance management on Moletele Communal Property Association's performance at Maruleng Local Municipality of the Limpopo ProvinceMasoga, Morongwa Virginia January 2013 (has links)
Thesis (M. Dev.) -- University of Limpopo, 2013 / Recent changes in the allocation of land through the results of land redistribution have compelled members of communities to form committees, that is, Communal Property Associations (CPAs) that would be responsible for managing the claimed land. The Maruleng Local Municipality was not excluded from this process. Five of the CPAs have been formed under the above mentioned municipality to manage claimed land.
The research investigated the impact of performance management on the Moletele CPA’s performance at Maruleng Local Municipality of the Limpopo Province. The management of Moletele CPA was not without challenges, problems such as lack of resources, adequate training programmes, lack of clear policy and objectives were also found in the study. This research also seeks to investigate why Moletele CPA is performing better than the other CPAs in the municipality.
In order to understand the total context of the challenges faced by Moletele CPA, an empirical research and interviews were conducted to collect data from the members of Moletele CPA. The findings of the study suggest that a lack of resources and relevant training programmes are contributing negatively towards the performance of the Moletele CPA in particular, and other CPAs in general.
To conclude, the study revealed that performance management is not determined by one factor, but other challenges such as clarity of policies and cooperation amongst stakeholders also contribute towards the success of the Moletele CPA ;hence the recommendations made in chapter five.

Functionality; productivity; and challenges of land redistribution in Ehlanzeni Region of Mpumalanga Province : a case study of Mbombela Local Municipality with reference to Lahlamali Community Property AssociationMabuza, Mandla Elias January 2014 (has links)
Thesis (M. Dev. ) --University of Limpopo, 2014 / The legacy of apartheid has left the current democratic government of South Africa
grappling with vast challenges. Eighteen years of governance has not been enough
for the state to address issues of land redistribution, and in particular redistribution of
commercial farm and the improvement of their functionality after redistribution.
The main aim of the study is to assess the general functionality, productivity and
challenges of redistributed farms. Qualitative research methodology (descriptive
research design) is used to diagnose historical and current issues impacting on the
functionality, productivity and challenges facing LCPA. Probability random sampling,
more especially stratified random sampling was used as a sampling method.
The results indicated that the farm is experiencing a number of challenges,
conflicting views regarding the farm path. Due to the lack of financial support,
malfunctioning or aging infrastructure, and most importantly the lack of
agricultural technical and farming knowledge. Challenges experienced among
others include the following, consistent decline in production, lack of technical and
strong agricultural farming knowledge, lack of persistent strong financial support; and
lack of integrated support from agricultural stakeholders. To change the status quo,
consistent training of beneficiaries in farming and farm management has to be tailor
made for them, and a multidimensional support for beneficiaries has to be put in
place.

以土地重劃方式辦理農村社區更新之研究 / A Survey of Community Renewal in Farming Village Through Land Re- distribution林天彬, Lin, Tien Pin Unknown Date (has links)

An investigation on the impact of the land redistribution and development (LRAD) programme with special reference to the Tsomo Valley Agricultural Co-operative farmsTuta, Wonga Precious January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of the research was to assess the policy impact of the Land Redistribution and Development (LRAD) Programme, which substituted the Settlement and Land Acquisition Grant (SLAG) programme. Both these policies were meant to make land accessible to previously disadvantaged groups including Africans, Coloureds and Indians, as part of land reform policies of the post 1994 democratic government. Due to some failures of SLAG after its first five years of implementation, which were from 1995 to 1999, the land redistribution policy was revised and the LRAD programme came as an improved policy of SLAG. There has not been much research on the impact of this programme, which has been implemented since August 2001.

Evaluation of extension support within comprehensive agricultural support program in the Tshwane Metropolitan MunicipalityMafsikaneng, Ntau Anton January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (M.Sc. (Agricultural Extension)) -- University of Limpopo, 2015 / The study was undertaken to understand the beneficiary and non–beneficiary evaluation of the CASP-Extension programme and how it can be used to improve future programme delivery. This study was conducted in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality between October 2014 and February 2015. In this study a survey design was used. The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data for this study were gathered through semi–structured questionnaires. The respondents of this study included sixty farmers made up of LRAD farmers receiving CASP-Extension and those not receiving CASP-Extension. The farmers were chosen by systematic sampling. Independent t-test and Chi-Squared tests were applied to analyse the data using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results revealed that receiving CASP-Extension support does not contribute to yield increase over non-recipients. Regarding participation in CASP-Extension, recipients of CASP-Extension support indicated receiving at one visit by Extension agent per month which is slightly less than what the literature suggests. The image of CASP-Extension as perceived by Non-CASP-Extension recipients is a poor one compared with a good image painted by CASP-Extension recipients. This notwithstanding, most Non-CASP-Extension recipients have the ambition to receive CASP-Extension support. CASP-Extension could improve its image amongst Non-CASP-Extension recipients by addressing the areas of dissatisfaction indicated by respondents in the study.

The effect of management on land tenure in Hoedspruit, Limpopo ProvinceShai, Given Felix January 2017 (has links)
Thesis (M. Dev.) -- University of Limpopo, 2017. / Recent changes in South Africa have exerted a lot of pressure on the government to redress the past injustices on the land redistribution among its citizens. The community of Hoedspruit is not excluded from the above challenges, hence the study on the effect of management of land tenure in Hoedspruit. The management of land tenure in Hoedspruit was fraught with challenges such as lack of clarity on policies, managerial skills, resources, institutional support, inadequate training programmes, lack of financial support, alternative strategy, monitoring and evaluation. This study also seeks to investigate the factors that hinder the effective management of land tenure. Data was obtained by means of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. These were used to have a deeper understanding of the challenges that were encountered by the new land owners in the area of the study. The main findings of the study confirmed that there were challenges associated with the management of land tenure. Lack of financial support and relevant training were regarded as the main problems that hinder the management of land tenure in Hoedspruit. In conclusion, the study also suggested some strategies and recommendations that can enhance the effective management of land tenure in Hoedspruit.

The impact of land redistribution on the livelihoods of beneficiaries : a case of Molwama Polokwane ProvinceMakhari, Daisy Jacqueline January 2016 (has links)
Thesis (M. Dev.) -- University of Limpopo, 2016 / Land reform in a form of land redistribution has been implemented in developing countries including South Africa. Land reform in South Africa was introduced to address the effects of the racial discrimination practices of the apartheid government, which led to black people being denied access to land prior 1994. The objective of land redistribution is produce commercially viable land reform projects, which will be able to sustain livelihoods of the poor. However evidence from some studies suggest that a large number of these projects have failed.
This study aimed to explore the impact of land redistribution programme on the livelihoods of beneficiaries of the Monyamani, Lwalalemetse and Maboi3 (MOLWAMA) farms in the Polokwane municipality, Limpopo province who have benefited from Settlement Land Acquisition Grant (SLAG) a sub-programme of land redistribution. A quantitative research design was used. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire and analysed using the SPSS software. Since the main objective was to determine how the standard of living, the researcher used key indicators such as household income, access to services, production of food for food security, empowerment, security and health. The main findings of the research are that while beneficiaries indicated a positive change on their standard of living, it was evident that because the land was not optimally utilised, the benefits could be much higher but for a number of challenges that they were still experiencing. Beneficiaries highlighted a number of challenges which include water shortages, drought, financial mismanagement, conflict amongst beneficiaries, uncommitted beneficiaries, low wages, low representation of women and youth and lack of financial assistance. In order to resolve these challenges, the study recommends a number of policy interventions. Specifically, on building capacity of beneficiaries by providing entrepreneurship and financial management trainings. The government and other stakeholders should encourage the youth to participate in land reform projects and provide them with necessary skills which, will enable them to work productively. Provision of infrastructure such as access roads, water, electricity and markets is very crucial for successful and sustainable projects.
