January 2015 (has links)
Abstract: Currently, the grasses growing in Brazil is expanding. The biggest consumer market for lawns is the industry of sports, especially football and golf courses. The quality of the lawn in these sports areas is crucial, especially when it comes to golf courses, where any imperfection can prejudice the outcome of the game. The nematode parasites of plants of the genus Meloidogyne, also known the root-knot nematodes, are considered the most economically important because of the intensity of the damage they cause to crops. The main species associated with grasses on golf courses are M. graminicola, M. graminis, M. marylandi, M. naasi, M. minor and M.sasseri. In Brazil Meloidogyne sp. has been reported in esmerald grass roots (Zoysia japonica) in the State of Paraná. The species M. graminicola was detected in rice roots in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. In 2006 the species M. graminis, was first detected in South America parasitizing grass roots Tifdwarf shorts on golf course in Venezuela. So far this species has not been reported in Brazil. The objective of this project is to identify the root-knot nematodes found parasitizing roots of grasses of golf courses in the state of Sao Paulo. For this were carried out detailed studies of integrative taxonomy, including morphological and morphometric studies, biology, biochemical, molecular and phylogenetic. All analyzes have confirmed that the species in golf courses in São Paulo state is M. graminis, that characterized the first report of the species in Brazil. / Mestre

Residential lawn water use and lawn irrigation practices: Wellington, FloridaUnknown Date (has links)
Water conservation initiatives seldom quantify the volume of water that is at stake in lawn watering. In many communities, including those in South Florida, outdoor water use, which includes lawn irrigation, is not metered separately from indoor water use and is indistinguishable from indoor water usage. A large number of residents use self supply non-potable wells for lawn irrigation that are not regulated by the South Florida Water Management District. The result is that residential lawn water use is difficult to account for and quantify. This thesis project addressed these difficulties by combining semistructured interviews, daily watering observations and irrigation system audits to ascertain how much public supply water and self supply (well) water was being used for residential lawn irrigation. The study also examined lawn watering practices and how factors such as: precipitation, the minimum plant needs of St. Augstinegrass, and how local watering restrictions influenced watering behavior. / Abstract: In sports turfgrass the fertilization is frequent and at high levels, mainly due to frequent mowing and consequently significant nutrient export. Currently the fertilization and irrigation recommendation on turfgrass is subjected and is based on the experience of the professionals and on the visual aspect, which greatly increases the chances of error. So there is a need to develop tools and to study the development of the turfgrass to produce information that can give professionals the support to make the correct recommendation. Therefore, this work was aimed to generate technical information that may contribute to the fertilizer and irrigation management and prove or not the possibility of porous cup extractors on turfgrass, which is a widely used technique in fertigation. The research project was conducted at FCA/UNESP in Botucatu where two irrigation managements, four nitrogen and two potassium rates were used. The effects of these treatments on the development of the Tifway bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon X Cynodon transvaalensis) were analyzed and related with foliar, soil and soil solution analysis. The experimental design was randomized block with split plots and four replications. During six months the following assessments was undertaken: soil, foliar and soil solution analysis, and turfgrass development and qualitity analyses. Monitoring the concentration of nutrients in the soil solution using porous capsule extractors was efficient to detect the nitrogen and ... / Doutor

A Segment-based Approach To Classify Agricultural Lands Using Multi-temporal Kompsat-2 And Envisat Asar DataOzdarici Ok, Asli 01 February 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Agriculture has an important role in Turkey / hence automated approaches are crucial to
maintain sustainability of agricultural activities. The objective of this research is to
classify eight crop types cultivated in Karacabey Plain located in the north-west of
Turkey using multi-temporal Kompsat-2 and Envisat ASAR satellite data. To fulfill this
objective, first, the fused Kompsat-2 images were segmented separately to define
homogenous agricultural patches. The segmentation results were evaluated using multiple
goodness measures to find the optimum segments. Next, multispectral single-date
Kompsat-2 images with the Envisat ASAR data were classified by MLC and SVMs
algorithms. To combine the thematic information of the multi-temporal data set,
probability maps were generated for each classification result and the accuracies of the
thematic maps were then evaluated using segment-based manner. The results indicated
that the segment-based approach based on the SVMs method using the multispectral
Kompsat-2 and Envisat ASAR data provided the best classification accuracies. The
combined thematic maps of June-August and June-July-August provided the highest
overall accuracy and kappa value around 92% and 0.90, respectively, which was 4%
better than the highest result computed with the MLC method. The produced thematic
maps were also evaluated based on field-based manner and the analysis revealed that the
classification performances are directly proportional to the size of the agricultural fields.

A decision tree (DT) classification approach was used to identify summer (August) crop types in an agricultural area near Karacabey (Bursa), Turkey from multi-temporal images. For the analysis, Landsat 7 ETM+ images acquired in May, July, and August 2000 were used. In addition to the original bands, NDVI, PCA, and Tasselled Cap Transformation bands were also generated and included in the classification procedure. Initially, the images were classified on a per-pixel basis using the multi-temporal masking technique together with the DT approach. Then, the classified outputs were applied a field-based analysis and the class labels of the fields were directly entered into the Geographical Information System (GIS) database. The results were compared with the classified outputs of the three dates of imagery generated using a traditional maximum likelihood (ML) algorithm. It was observed that the proposed approach provided significantly higher overall accuracies for the May and August images, for which the number of classes were low. In May and July, the DT approach produced the classification accuracies of 91.10% and 66.15% while the ML classifier produced 84.38% and 63.55%, respectively. However, in August nearly the similar overall accuracies were obtained for the ML (70.82%) and DT (69.14%) approaches. It was also observed that the use of additional bands for the proposed technique improved the separability of the sugar beet, tomato, pea, pepper, and rice classes.
