The Independent Influence of Large Differences in Adiposity on Thermoregulatory Responses during ExerciseDervis, Sheila January 2014 (has links)
Currently no previous study has isolated the independent influence of body fat (BF) on thermoregulatory responses from the confounding biophysical factors of body mass and metabolic heat production (Hprod). Therefore, seven lean (L, BF:10.7 ± 4.1%) and seven non-lean (NL, BF:32.2 ± 6.4%) males matched for total body mass (TBM, L: 87.8 ± 8.5 kg, NL: 89.4 ± 7.8 kg; P= 0.73), cycled for 60 min in a 28.2 ±0.2˚C and 27 ± 10% RH room at i) a Hprod of 546 W; and ii) a Hprod of 7.5 W·kg lean body mass (LBM). Rectal (Tre) and esophageal (Tes) temperatures, and local sweat rate (LSR) were measured continuously; while whole body sweat loss (WBSL) was measured from 0-60 mins. At 546 W, changes in Tre (L: 0.74 ± 0.16ºC, NL: 0.83 ± 0.14ºC), mean local sweat rate (MLSR) based on an average of upper-back and forearm local sweat rates (L: 0.65 ± 0.25, NL: 0.59±0.12 mgcm-2min-1) and WBSL (L: 568 ± 28 mL, NL: 567 ± 29 mL) were similar (P>0.58). At 7.5 W·kg LBM, the L group had greater changes in Tre (L: 0.87 ± 0.16ºC, NL: 0.55 ± 0.11ºC), MLSR (L: 0.83 ±0 .38, NL: 0.41 ± 0.13 mgcm-2min-1) and WBSL (L: 638 ± 19 mL, NL: 399 ± 17 mL) (P<0.05). In conclusion, i) body fat does not independently alter thermoregulatory responses during exercise; ii) core temperature comparisons between groups differing in BF should be performed using a Hprod normalized for TBM, not LBM.

Specifika úrovně štíhlosti ve vybrané společnosti / Specifika úrovně štíhlosti ve vybrané společnostiLesňák, Martin January 2015 (has links)
The Lean concept arises from Toyota Production Syste (TPS). Then, the concept of leanness includes Value, Waste and Continuous Improvement. An organization with high level of leanness creates higher value to customers with lower level of waste within a continuous improvement environment. The examination of these diploma theses determines a new approach of lean measurement. Although, the use of ethnography is new in Lean management, it opens new possibilities to understand the behavior of the people about the organizational leanness.

Previous issue date: 2015-02-10 / The pursuit for an efficient productive process, low costs and higher value added for products and services offered to the customers has become an important feature for companies in various economic sectors in a global perspective. In the service sector, some companies have adopted the fundamentals of Lean Service to eliminate waste in many aspects of their activities aiming better operating results. However, the lack of knowledge in this sector and the low number of research in adoption of Lean Service, require studies on their applicability. This research aimed to check if the Lean Service practices are applied to Information Technology (IT) services activities and if this has brought improvements in operational terms as well as in the quality of services provided. A systematic literature review supported by bibliometrics methods identified just few articles published in this area into literature however this research identified some companies using it in this sector. In an empirical perspective of LS application two case studies present results with evidence of operating performance and quality improvements on LS practices adopted relating the previous environment.

The present project show the problem of an increase in product returns for a company that produces plastic films for flexible packaging. Among the factors that have resulted in the increase of returned products are defects in the films caused by the poor manipulation of materials and, above all, the hard point in the coils caused by excessive extruder preparation time, causing the extrusion head to overheat as well as uneven extrusion. Extrusion is a key process in the production of plastic materials as it transforms polypropylene and additives into plastic sheets. The delay in the preparation time caused by machine operators leads to the overheating of the extrusion head and, therefore, defective products that are ultimately returned to the company by customers.
In order to confront this problem, a proposal was developed using the SMED tool of Lean Manufacturing in order to reduce the preparation time of the extruder and to increase the productivity of the company. For the validation of the proposal, we simulated the system to determine the resulting reduction in extruder preparation time. / Trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional
