Elas são faladas em três ilhas: o são-tomense e o angolar, na ilha de São Tomé, o principense, na ilha de Príncipe e o fa d’ambu, na ilha de Anobom. Os quatro crioulos são todos de base lexical portuguesa e a gramática das línguas de substrato é da família bantu e dos grupos kwa e oeste bantu. Hoje, afirma-se que essas quatro variedades tiveram uma ligação em tempos passados e foram afastando-se devido a vários fatores, tais como contato de línguas entre portugueses e africanos e surgimento de novas áreas geolingüísticas.Mesmo acreditando-se ter uma história de origem comum, a escravatura, coloca-se a dúvida de saber se trata-se de línguas diferentes ou dialetos de uma única língua. Na tentativa de averiguar se o são-tomense, o angolar, o principense e o fa d’ambu são quatro línguas diferentes ou quatro dialetos de uma mesma língua, procedemos a uma descrição fonológica de cada uma dessas variedades, estabelecendo, assim, um estudo comparativo entre seus respectivos segmentos e, por fim, as suas respectivas estruturas silábicas. Além do aspecto fonológico, foram tomados em consideração os fatores sócio-históricos e socioculturais. A partir deste conjunto de considerações reunidas, acreditamos que os quatro crioulos são dialetos do são- tomense. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The São Tomenses, the Angolar, The Pricipense and the Fa d´ambu are varieties of creoule spoken in the gulf oF Guiné. They are spoken on three islands. The são-tomense and angolar on the island of São Tome, pricipense on the island of Principe and the fa d´ambu on the island of Anobom. The four kriols all have Portuguese as their lexical base and the grammar of these languages is extracted from the bantu family and the kwa and eastern Bantu groups Today we are assured that these four varieties had a connection in the past and that they separated due to various factors such as contact of languages between the Portuguese and the Africans and the appearance of new geolinguistic areas. Even believing that there is a history of common origin, slavery, we still are in doubt whether we are faced with different languages or dialects of one unique language. In the quest to verify weather são tomense, angolar, pricipense and the fa d´ambu are four different languages or four dialects of the same language, we proceed with a phonological description of each of these varieties, thus establishing a comparative study between their respective segments and also their respective silabical structures. Apart from the phonological aspect we took into consideration the socio-historic and socio-cultaral factors. Based on these considerations we believe that the four kriols are all dialects of São tomense.
