Estabilidade assintótica de modelos logísticos com retardamento / Asymptotic stability for logistic models with delay

Pereira, Juliana Rodrigues Dionisio 20 May 2013 (has links)
Para atingir o objetivo, estudou-se inicialmente a teoria geral de estabilidade de Equações Diferenciais Funcionais e a teoria de estabilidade para alguns tipos dessas equações / This paper\'s main objective is to study the asymptotic stability of Dierential Equations with Delay using the techniques developed by Faria and Liz (2003). To analyze the asymptotic stability, the approach used in this study is to impose a condition of dominance of the term without delay on the part delayed, allowing the study of oscillatory solutions. In addition, the study will culminate in a theorem ensures such stability in an equation Lotka-Volterra type, for which the Liapunov method does not apply. To achieve the objective, we studied initially the general theory of stability of Functional Dierential Equations and stability theory for some types of these equations

Comparing Student Performance on the Old vs New Versions of the Naplex

Welch, Adam C., Karpen, Samuel C. 01 April 2018 (has links)
Objective. To determine if the new 2016 version of the North American Pharmacy Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) affected scores when controlling for student performance on other measures using data from one institution. Methods. There were 201 records from the classes of 2014-2016. Doubly robust estimation using weighted propensity scores was used to compare NAPLEX scaled scores and pass rates while considering student performance on other measures. Of the potential controllers of student performance: Pharmacy Curricular Outcomes Assessment (PCOA), scaled composite scores from the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT), and P3 Grade Point Average (GPA). Only PCOA and P3 GPA were found to be appropriate for propensity scoring. Results. The weighted NAPLEX scaled scores did not significantly drop from the old (2014-2015) to the new (2016) version of NAPLEX. The change in pass rates between the new and old versions of NAPLEX were also non-significant. Conclusion. Using data from one institution, the new version itself of the NAPLEX did not have a significant effect on NAPLEX scores or first-time pass rates when controlling for student performance on other measures. Colleges are encouraged to repeat this analysis with pooled data and larger sample sizes.

Models for bundle preference estimation using configuration data

Chiu, I-Hsuan Shaine 15 December 2017 (has links)
Bundling is pervasive in the market, examples include desktop computer bundles, digital single-lens reflex camera kits and cookware sets, to name a few. The advancement in information technology allows more and more companies to provide customized bundles to customers. Wind and Mahajan (1997) recognize the importance of researching mass customization and suggest companies to use consumers’ input “as a response (to a conjoint analysis-type task) that provides operational guidelines for the design of products to inventory for the segment that is not willing to pay the premium required for customized products”. In addition to conjoint analysis, researchers and practitioners are using “build-your-own-bundle” or configuration approach. In a configuration study, participants are presented with a menu from which they can choose individual items to build up their desired product bundle. The process mimics the real decision process, is easy to implement, and is straight forward for participants to understand. However, as the size of the menu grows, the number of possible bundles grows geometrically. This results in computation difficulties. This dissertation investigates the application of configuration approach, and examines if it extends and complements the choice-based conjoint (CBC) approach. We first develop an aggregate model for analyzing configuration data. We show analytically that the aggregate choice model consistent with configuration data has a closed form representation which takes the form of a Multivariate Logistic (MVL) model. WE discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the configuration approach. Because configuration and conjoint data tasks have different strengths and weaknesses, taking advantages of these two choice tasks may improve the understanding of consumer preferences for bundles. A fundamental assumption in the data fusion literature is that the same decision making process is applied under different choice tasks. We examine if consumer decision making process is the same under CBC and configuration studies by comparing the estimation results from CBC and conjoint studies. We show that these two procedures may not be fully comparable. To combine the two data sources we need a data fusion model that takes into account the differences to obtain a reasonable result.
