Mobile Communication in Distributed Environment

The thesis purpose was to develop a framework for coordination of devices over mobile environment. The framework is specially designed for mobile devices due to constraints in mobiles of less memory and resources, enables zero configuration for communication. The purpose of study was to investigate existing tools and technologies for mobile communication. For this purpose UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) architecture is investigated over Prism-MW (Programming in the small and many - middleware) for android platform. We have developed the control point devices communicate with server devices. And also we have developed demonstrator application to show how devices will work.

Increases in the expression of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) are widely known to be involved in aberrant growth in the early stage of colon cancer development. We herein demonstrated that the novel indole compound MW-03 reduced PGE2-induced cAMP formation by catalization to an inactive metabolite by inducing 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase through the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ. MW-03 also inhibited colon cancer cell growth by arresting the cell cycle at the S phase. Although the target of MW-03 for cell cycle inhibition has not yet been identified, these dual anti-cancer effects of MW-03 itself and/or its leading compound(s) on colon cancer cells may reduce colon cancer development and, thus, have potential as a novel treatment for the early stage of this disease.

This diploma thesis deals with a design of antennas based on a flexible substrate. There is also a design of a transmission line between a flexible and rigid substrate with FLEX- RIGID technology. In the first part of thesis, there is the technology, advantages and disadvantages of using this technology in design of antennas mentioned. There are also basic antenna parameters mentioned. In second part, the design of a transmission line and four antennas is presented. Two of these antennas are manufactured and measured. Finally, the measured parameters are compared with the simulated results.

Packet Scheduling on the Wireless Channel

Scheduling has always been an indispensable part of resource allocation in wireless networks. Accurate information about channel-state is assumed as a modeling simplification. However, in a real-life network ,e.g., Long Term Evolution(LTE) or IEEE 802.16e WiMAX, the channel-state information feedback to the transmitter can have uncertainty. The primary reason being that although resource allocation is done at the finer granularity of a Physical Resource Block (PRB), channel-state information is still feedback at the coarser granularity of a sub band, which is a group of PRBs. This is done to reduce the feedback traffic from the users to the Base Station. However, this averaging causes information loss and hence, the resulting uncertainty at the scheduler. Moreover, uncertainty might be present in the channel-estimates because of the very process of estimation. In the first part of the thesis, we model the channel-estimate in accuracy and characterize the network stability region. Compared to earlier works, we allow the channel estimates to have dependence among themselves, which is a more realistic situation in a modern LTE or WiMax network. We then propose two simple Max Weight based scheduling schemes that achieve any rate in the interior of the stability region. We also derive an asymptotically tight upper bound on the mean queueing delay in our system under one of the throughput-optimal policies we propose. The above policies ensure stability of the network and we have also obtained bounds on the mean queueing delays. However, different applications may require certain quality of service which may not be satisfied by these policies. Thus, we also propose a throughput-optimal policy for the network under traffic with heterogeneous QoS constraints and present some numerical results studying its performance. In the second part of the thesis, we study the problem of energy-efficient scheduling under average delay constraint. For wireless access technologies, the largest power consumer is the Base Station(BS). Any reduction in the power consumption in a BS will reduce carbon footprint from the Information and Communication Technology sector. We concentrate on the problem of minimizing the total non-renewable power consumed in a Green BS, that is powered by renewable energy sources ,e.g., solar/wind energy and may also be connected to the power grid or diesel generators. Specifically, we consider the problem of minimizing the average grid power consumption of a Green BS downlink in scheduling multiple users with average delay constraints. We have a packetized model for the data packets (i.e., the packets cannot be fragmented) which is a more realistic model for packet-switched networks. The power function is a non-decreasing convex function of the queue-lengths and only one user is allowed to transmit in a slot. We prove the existence of a power optimal policy under delay constraints for multiple users. We analyse the problem and provide some structural results for the optimal policy.

Ferroelectric FETs With 20-nm-Thick HfO₂ Layer for Large Memory Window and High Performance

Hafnium oxide (HfO₂)-based ferroelectric field-effect transistor (FeFET) is an attractive device for nonvolatile memory. However, when compared to the well-established flash devices, the memory window (MW) of FeFETs reported so far is rather limited, which might be an obstacle to practical applications. In this article, we report on FeFETs fabricated in the 28-nm high-𝑘 metal gate (HKMG) bulk technology with 90 and 80 nm for the channel length and width, respectively, which show a large MW of nearly 3 V. This is achieved by adopting 20-nm-thick HfO₂ films in the gate stack instead of the usually employed 10-nm-thick films. We show that such a thickness increase leads to only a moderate increase of the switching voltages, and to a significantly improved resilience of the memory characteristics upon the parasitic charge trapping. The devices display a good retention at high temperatures and endure more than 10⁵ bipolar cycles, thus supporting this technology for a future generation of FeFET memories.

Neste trabalho dois métodos de preparo de amostras para decomposição de bio-diesel foram avaliados para a posterior determinação de Cu e Ni por espectrometria de absorção atômica com forno de grafite (GF AAS). O primeiro método consistiu na de-composição ácida assistida por radiação micro-ondas em sistema fechado (MW-AD), que foi realizada com adição de HNO3 7 mol L-1 e 2 mL de H2O2 30% (m/m). O segun-do método de pré-tratamento avaliado foi a decomposição por via seca em forno mufla com programa de aquecimento até a temperatura máxima de 450 °C. O sólido resultante foi dissolvido em HNO3 1% (v/v). As temperaturas de pirólise e atomização para a téc-nica de GF AAS foram, respectivamente, 1000 ºC e 2000 ºC para Cu, e 1100 °C e 2300 °C para Ni. Os limites de detecção (LD) para Cu e Ni foram de 12,4 e 3,8 ng g-1 empre-gando o método de decomposição MW-AD. Enquanto que, para o método de decompo-sição por via seca os LD foram de 2,8 e 8,3 ng g-1 para Cu e Ni, respectivamente. A avaliação da exatidão foi efetuada a partir do ensaio de recuperação após adição de ana-lito ao biodiesel. As recuperações foram de 91 e 86% para o método MW-AD para Cu e Ni, respectivamente. Foram observadas perdas por volatilização com o emprego do mé-todo de via seca para Cu, com isso, a recuperação foi no máximo de 73%. / In this work, two methods for biodiesel digestion for determination of Cu and Ni by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF AAS) were evaluated. The microwave-assisted acid digestion (MW-AD) with the addition of 7 mol L-1 of HNO3 and 2 mL of H2O2 30% (m/m) was applied to biodiesel digestion. In addition, a dry ash method was applied to biodiesel digestion using a maximum temperature of 450 ºC. The inorganic residues were dissolved by addition of 1% (v/v) nitric acid. The optimiza-tion of temperature program was performed in the GF AAS for Cu and Ni using a sam-ple with standard addition. The pyrolysis and atomization temperatures were, respec-tively, 1000 ° C and 2000 ° C for Cu and 1100 ° C and 2300 °C for Ni. The limits of detection for Cu and Ni were 12,4 and 3,8 ng g-1, respectively, using a MW-AD meth-od. Using a dry ash method the limits of detection were 2,8 and 8,3 for Cu and Ni, re-spectively. Characterization and Removal of NOM from Raw Waters in Coastal Environments

An investigation was conducted focusing on how NOM affects coagulation in a United States south eastern coastal surface water. Current water treatment practice at Savannah Water I and D was investigated to determine the efficacy of NOM removal using existing coagulation methods. A robust assessment of alum and ferric sulfate for use as coagulants in the removal of disinfection byproduct (DBP) precursor material was conducted using composite water created from sample sites within the SWID watershed. Both coagulants were optimized for the removal of NOM. Pragmatic methods of NOM size analysis and its reactivity with chlorine was investigated. UF membranes were used in conjunction with a permeation coefficient model (PCM) to determine an apparent molecular weight distribution of NOM present in the watershed. Individual size classes were assessed for their potential to form trihalomethanes (THMs) upon chlorination. Coagulation using alum and ferric sulfate was assessed to determine removal efficiency of individual NOM size classes under various coagulation scenarios. Finally, UV254 absorbance (UVA) was assessed to determine its potential use as an indicator of DOC concentration in raw and treated water at SWID. Additionally, an investigation into the relationship between specific UVA (SUVA) and THM formation potential (THM-FP) was conducted.
