Aircraft systems design methodology and dispatch reliability prediction

Bineid, Mansour January 2005 (has links)
Aircraft despatch reliability was the main subject of this research in the wider content of aircraft reliability. The factors effecting dispatch reliability, aircraft delay, causes of aircraft delays, and aircraft delay costs and magnitudes were examined. Delay cost elements and aircraft delay scenarios were also studied. It concluded that aircraft dispatch reliability is affected by technical and non-technical factors, and that the former are under the designer's control. It showed that the costs of aircraft delays are very significant and must be reduced. Cont/d.

Improving maintainability on modern cross-platform projects

Berglund, Dan January 2013 (has links)
As software systems grow in size they will also grow in complexity. If the increased complexity is not managed the system will be increasingly difficult to maintain. The effect of unmaintainable software is even more distinct when using a agile development process. By increasing the maintainability of the system these problems will be dealt with and the system can be extended with sustained efficiency. This thesis will evaluate the development process of a modern, agile company in order to find changes that will promote increased maintainability. The result is an modified process that will increase the maintainability with the smallest possible overhead for the development organisation. The result is based on earlier studies of development technologies that have proven to increase the maintainability. The implementation of these technologies are adjusted to fit the development team, and some of the technologies that are not suitable for the team are rejected.

A Study on Fleet Maintenance Management Strategy and Performance In System Dynamics

Chen, Shih-hsiung 28 July 2006 (has links)
More and more organizations and enterprises adopt the Strategy Map and Balanced Scorecard(BSC). However, did they really reach their strategy goal or do they have a mature method to assess their performances? When they finish contructing their strategy map and lauching the balanced scorecard, they may face the same problems, such as how to sucessfully implement strategy? How to effectively set up KPI? How to apply the limited resources into the most important strategy? Some researches mention that there is no interactive relationship among BSC, Strategy goal, Performance Indicators, and the actions they took. That is the limit of the current BSC theory. However, it do exists the complicated dynamics relation between the BSC strategy actions and the internal process of organization. Most of the top management only pay attention to the short-term performance and neglect the side effect and unintended consequences caused by the improper actions they took. They even misjudge the feedback information from the wrong messages because of the system delay. Therefore, the whole strategy planning turn out to be imperfect and the effectiveness of promoting strategy goal is not so good as they expected. But if they incorporate the system dynamics method into BSC, then it may resolve the dynamic and complex issue that happen in their system. The purpose of this study is toresearch and find out the interactive mechanism and method between strategy goal and performance measurement for the enterprises. According to the causal relationship found in the process of establishing the strategy map and examining its various measuring items, construct the system dynamics model and analyze the simulation outcomes. And then find out the driving factors to succeed and the Key Indicators for achieving the strategic goal. In this way, two objectives could be accomplished: (1) Launch and develop the strategy map and Balanced Scorecard, and then utilize the system dynamics to conduct the planning, simulation and test. (2) Through this interactive simulation and test between performance indicators and strategy goal, look for the best key performance indicators and revise the policy actions and strategy. System dynamics is the main approach adopted in this study. By following its modeling procedure, I undertook the data collecting and analyzing for the target company as my case study. And then, conducted the construction, simulation, test, and analysis of system dynamic model. According to the results, I made the conclusions of this study as follows: (1) Within the causal relationship between the strategy goal and performance measurement items of the BSC, there do exists an influence of side effect and unintended consequences. (2) The simulation outcomes of this system dynamics model could be taken as reference for planning and adjusting the strategy goal of BSC, and also could be the basis of finding out the leading index of the system. (3) Conclude and set up the basic system dynamics model for Balanced Scorecard. Trough this study, we hope that enterprises could adopt the system dynamic to help them improve their long- term integral effectiveness. At last, this study brings up the suggestions and proposes some idea for follow-up research.

Reliability modeling for capital project decisions

Poulassichidis, Antonios 05 January 2011 (has links)
Exploration and Production (E&P) project costs within the oil industry are continuously increasing reflecting a reality of more harsh environments, remote locations with minimal existing infrastructure and cost increases for materials and skilled resources. The significant capital expenditures translate to a number of projects either for new or revamped production facilities. Successful project completion requires a series of correct decisions throughout the project life-cycle namely design, construction, operations, maintenance and decommissioning. Using a Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) model as part of the project decision process is an E&P industry best practice that recently gained acceptance in Hess Corporation. This paper presents the RAM methodology and the gains from its application in a capital project. / text

Valuation of participation of production engineering in concurrent design construction-real estate developer company.

Carlos Eduardo Grazina 12 February 2016 (has links)
The lack of integration between knowledge areas can generate negative effects in the design process in a construction-real estate developer. PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED VS. MAINTAINABILITY-ORIENTED IMPLEMENTATION : A CASE STUDY OF THE REACTIVE PLANNER OF TEAM SWEDEN. / PRESTANDA-ORIENTERAD MOT UNDERHÅLLBARHETS-ORIENTERAD IMPLEMENTATION : EN FALLSTUDIE AV TEAM SWEDENS REACTIVE PLANNER

Johansson, David, Lehtovirta, Daniel January 2002 (has links)
Our work is a case study for Team Sweden, which is a national effort to produce a team of soccer playing robots. We took the present structure of the Reactive Planner, which is the game-planning module of the system, and made two new parallel versions of the Reactive Planner. One where we tried to optimize for CPU and memory usage called the performance-oriented implementation. We also made one implementation where we tried to optimize for maintainability called the maintainability-oriented implementation. To evaluate the implementations we ran a series of CPU and memory usage tests to assess the performance. We also estimated the maintainability of both implementations. The test results where later used to decide which implementation we should recommend to Team Sweden. The results showed that the difference in maintainability did outweigh the difference in performance.

Ensidesapplikationers kodkvalitet och förvaltningsbarhet : En jämförelse av förvaltningsbarhet hos single-page applications utvecklade med AngularJS och React / : Code Quality and Maintainability of Single-page Applications – A Comparison of AngularJS and React

Niskanen,, Tom, Nyström, Johan January 2016 (has links)
Single-page applications have historically been subject to strong market forces driving fast development and deployment in lieu of quality control and changeable code, which are important factors for maintainability. In this report we develop two functionally equivalent applications using AngularJS and React and compare their maintainability as defined by ISO/IEC 9126. AngularJS and React represent two distinct approaches to web development, with AngularJS being a general framework providing rich base functionality and React a small specialized library for efficient view rendering. The quality comparison was accomplished by calculating Maintainability Index for each application. Version control analysis was used to determine quality indicators during development and subsequent maintenance where new functionality was added in two steps. The results show no major differences in maintainability in the initial applications. As more functionality is added the Maintainability Index decreases faster in the AngularJS application, indicating a steeper increase in complexity compared to the React application. Source code analysis reveals that changes in data flow requires significantly larger modifications of the AngularJS application due to its inherent architecture for data flow. We conclude that frameworks are useful when they facilitate development of known requirements but less so when applications and systems grow in size.
