Administração escolar e o governo dos homens: um estudo sobre a governamentalização educacional contemporânea / School Administration and Human Government: a study on the governmentalization of contemporary education

Claudia Ribeiro Calixto 26 March 2009 (has links)
This study aims to give visibility to the associations of power in modern-day education, and to shed light on the knowledge-power-truth nexus that flows through it. It takes practices of school administration, as they are presently asseverated and which act like a lookout from which to observe the working of power. The concept of governmentality was operative in the development of this study, which has references to the academic works of Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Nikolas Rose, Peter Pál Pelbart, Jorge Ramos do Ó and Alfredo Veiga-Neto, among others. The analysis is based on statements extracted from publications on school administration, as well as speeches delivered by the principals of county schools located in the capital city of the state of São Paulo. It aims to investigate the regimes of truth extolled by these practices. The systems of knowledge and reasoning that have guided the direction of conduct in schools since the beginning of the century were investigated with the aid of five images, considered here to be analytical portals. In the first portal, Between lives, the intention was to demonstrate the actualization of pastoral power and the insertion of Psi knowledge into administrative practices which have been responsible for the adoption of a suitable vocabulary for the current reasoning: leadership, persuasion, motivation. In the portal The Scream, the validity of the freedom ethic that harks back to the illustrative project and the liberal reformers, which still resounds in modern times and makes for more sophisticated forms of government that, more and more, stimulates individuals to volunteer for the techniques of power. In the third portal, The Persistence of Memory, the time regime that is currently in force was explored. It is linear, progressive, finalist and has led to fairly widespread practices in the educational field. In Integrity, the fourth image, the issue of liberalism as a modus operandi was revisited, in this approach, expanding on the dissertation of democracy. And, in the portal The Lone Horsemans Weapons, an attempt was made to execute the role of the experts who announced what may have constituted the new mottos of pastoral power in present-day society: entrepreneurialism. Finally, upon scrutinizing the ethics of freedom in the meandering tomes analyzed, which has guided the currently fashionable educational rationality, the study investigates the moral topography that these dissertations shape, the policy of responsibility inherent to it and the manner in which these dissertations, in an inspirational characteristic of power, arrange individuals (each and every one) into civilizing ventures through specific governmental technologies, such as pedagogic projects, further education, pedagogy of projects and democratic management, among others. These are practices whose final objective is the construction of self-gestating individuals.

Educational Manager Perceptions Towards Integrated Management Information System Implementation in Yemen

Alkaabi, MAHFOOD Hussain 01 January 2018 (has links)
The government of Yemen has been developing government offered services designed to improve the quality of education management. Yemen's managers of education and managers of higher education in the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) have sought to improve quality of education, reduce costs, and provide timely information for decision-making processes by implementing an integrated management information system (IMIS). The problem was the lack of understanding the barriers that hinder successful IMIS implementation by the MOE and MOHE, and the role that lack of collaboration has played in prior unsuccessful attempts. The purpose of this case study was to identify barriers and success factors related to previous attempts to implement an IMIS in Yemen's MOE and MOHE. Diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory and the technology acceptance model (TAM) provided the conceptual framework. A purposeful sampling was used to select participants for semistructured interviews. The interviews were conducted with 3 ministry personnel, 8 managers, and 4 administrators from various governorates who are currently working or have worked in the Yemen MOE or MOHE. Open coding was used to identify themes and patterns. Themes were related to insufficient human and material resources, lack of understanding and acceptance of IMIS, inadequate IMIS education and training, incompetent program managers, and fear of change. These findings may contribute to positive social change by improving the management of education, thereby the overall quality of education in Yemen. Improving management in education could increase the quality of life by contributing to increase of prosperity through a better-educated society, an active citizenry, and a reduction in the level of societal violence.

The implementation of Integrated Quality Management System in Primary Schools of Mopani District of Limpopo Province

Mhangani, Mashawu Elisa January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (M.Ed.) -- University of Limpopo, 2012 / The purpose of this study was to look at the experiences, trainings, resources, benefits and challenges faced by schools in the implementation of the Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) in the primary schools of the Nkowankowa Circuit at the Mopani District of Limpopo Province. As a result, the researcher was motivated to conduct a study on this topic. The scope of the research was restricted to two primary schools in the circuit. The government officials, principals, school development teams and educators had to respond to the questions asked during the interview between the researcher and the participants. Thus, the research methodology was qualitative in which a case study design was used. The sampling strategy was non-probability which led to purposive sampling to schools and participants. Data were collected through interviews, observations and documents and were analysed using the spiral steps of Creswell (2007). The findings of this study were that training was inadequate to the implementers. The support given by the Department was not enough. The resources at schools were lacking, hence little benefit by educators since IQMS started. The results showed disclosed that the majority of the participants feel that many things still have to be done for the effective implementation of IQMS, and all role players in schools need to join hands and assist one another. That is why there were lot of challenges which schools are encountering. This will give schools new shapes and performance in general will improve. Therefore, IQMS is partially implemented

Olsson, Johan, Åhlén, Tommy January 2009 (has links)

In 2000, more then 4 million Swedish citizens were given the responsibility to invest a part of their earned money in the new premium pension system. With limited knowledge in financial markets was it now up to the people themselves to decide how to invest. Due to the citizens lack of knowledge lead them to a passive behavior. This meant a new role for the financial institutions and the advising that followed. Since the start, there has been constant debates on how well the system has been working and who it has been beneficial to.With the new role of the pension advisors the problem question was stated as: considering the customers’ knowledge and understanding of the financial factors, how has the advising of premium pension funds evolved since 2000? With the sub question: what role will the future of pension funds advising have? The aim of the study is to research how the knowledge among the Swedish public has changed, how the perception of risk has altered, how the trust and confidence among financial advisors have changed, what importance new laws and regulations have had, and how the relations between customer and advisors has developed with the uneven knowledge. The future of pension advising will be investigated. This study has a qualitative approach with seven semi-structured interviews with different institutions that are related to pension saving. Due to the nature of the study a hermeneutic approach and abductive perspective is obliged. The respondents have observed the level of knowledge among the public to be low, however has it gotten better. The laws and licenses implemented has changed how pension advisors are working, and increased the confidence for advisors. For the future, a majority of the advisors are calling for the government to take the responsibility on educating the public in private economy. This would, according to the respondents, simplify the advisors job. The insufficient level of knowledge has created both problems and opportunities for advisors. The trouble with a product/service such as advising its complexity, which makes it hard for the institutions to explain, and for the customers to understand it. Therefore, the authors agree with the respondents, to educate the Swedish citizens in order for them to understand the opportunity that is in front of them.
