This ancient manufacture, with stages kept as secrets by the work corporations, basically used as raw materials sand mixed with an alkaline material such as soda or potash. Our work aims to show the handling of these raw materials, with a focus on chemistry. Thus, we decided to approach through some texts that described the manufacturing of glass in the course of a century, what was called salts . After analyzing books about the manufacturing of glass we selected Antonio Neri s text as a starting point and reference to our discussions. We have also approached the translations of Neri s work to English and French made by C. Merrett e J. H. de Blancourt respectively, who have made additions and modifications. Therefore, it was possible to establish for the period delimited for this study, routes of documents and craftsmen of the art of glass manufacturing between a region and another, seduced by the offered privileges. We hope to contribute with this work to a better understanding of what the researchers of the science of matter thought about some fundamental materials for the manufacturing of glass in the period which goes from the beginning of the 17th century to the beginning of the following century / Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a manufatura do vidro, notadamente no período compreendido entre o início do século XVII e o início do século XVIII. Essa antiga manufatura, com etapas guardadas como segredos pelas corporações de ofício, utilizava como matérias-primas basicamente a areia misturada a um material alcalino que podia ser a soda ou a potassa. Nosso trabalho procura mostrar a lida com essas matérias-primas, com um enfoque voltado para a química. Para tanto, decidimos abordar, através de alguns textos que descreveram a manufatura do vidro no decorrer de um século, o que se denominava sais . Após o levantamento das obras sobre a manufatura do vidro, selecionamos o texto de Antonio Neri como ponto de partida e referencial para nossas discussões. Abordamos ainda as traduções da obra de Neri ao inglês e ao francês feitas por C. Merrett e J. H. de Blancourt respectivamente, que fizeram modificações e acréscimos. Assim, foi possível estabelecer, para o período delimitado para a pesquisa, rotas tanto de documentos quanto de artesãos da arte vidreira entre uma região e outra, seduzidos por privilégios oferecidos. Esperamos contribuir com este trabalho para a melhor compreensão do que os estudiosos da ciência da matéria pensavam sobre alguns materiais fundamentais para a fabricação do vidro, no período que vai do início do século XVII ao início do seguinte
