Extraction of Electromagnetic Properties of Metamaterials with Branch Compensation from Phase Tracking

Lewis, Jacob Christian January 2020 (has links)
In the field of electromagnetism, there are materials known as metamaterials which exhibit unique properties that can be exploited. Permittivity, defined as capacitance per meter, of a metamaterial can vary over frequency , time, or even be negative. This can be useful for tuning antennas, changing their operating frequency or direction of propagation, or even designing cloaking systems. However, the theory behind metamaterials needs to be studied further. One of the biggest issues to address is in determining the constitutive parameters of metamaterials which may be varying. Previous research has shown the issue of branches, or mathematical discontinuities, occurring in the derivation of permittivity from the scattering parameters of a metamaterial. This thesis provides further understanding to the theory behind these branches and presents a new method to compensate for them. This new method, called the phase tracking method, may be considered a modern adaptation of the Nicolson-Ross-Weir method.

Toolbox pro spolupráci MATLABu s externími simulačními programy / Toolbox for the cooperation of MATLAB and external simulation programs

Moravec, Petr January 2009 (has links)
In this Master's thesis scripting interface of two programs CST Microwave studio and Ansoft HFSS for the purpose of analysis of electromagnetic structures is described. The work is focuses control of these programs with help of scripting languages and system's interface of MS Windows XP. Next the process of connecting programs with MATLAB is shown on commented scripts together with an example of complete analysis of a chosen problem, and the import and export of results results in MATLAB. Further the functions which form programming interface between MATLAB and simulation programs are designed and implemented. The interconnection layer makes the complete control of simulating programs possible using the function description published in the official documentation of used simulation programs. The layer is described in reference manual in detail and it is used for optimization with use of Particle swarm optimalization (PSO) of planar antenna model. Then there is presented another usage of the layer for an implementation of global optimization methods - SOMA and DE including suggestion of process for comparison efficiency of optimization algorithms on simple electromagnetic models.

Modelování silové sítě pro datovou komunikaci / Modelling of Power Line Communication for data transmission

Kadlček, Václav January 2009 (has links)
Thesis deals with problems PLC (Power Line Communication) communication. It is aimed at drawing up a suitable model for testing power network PLC communication. The reader is aware of at the beginning of work with the basic principles of PLC systems, distribution and use in communication networks. Another part of the work deals with different types of interference, which occur in power networks and ways to defend against such interference. For example, an appropriate choice of modulation and coding relevant. As a source of interference in the proposed model is used AWGN channel (Additive White Gaussian Noise). Conclusion of work is dedicated to design and build a model for PLC communication. There are three models designed with different OFDM technology. Models therefore vary between different levels of key mapping in OFDM (QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM). It made a detailed description of a set of blocks that were used to build models. The behavior and functionality of the proposed models for broadband PLC communication was verified in the simulation program Matlab Simulink. Finally, it is shown the comparison and evaluation of results of each modulation.

Developing data processing program for a new radio magnetotelluric (RMT) instrument

Uebel, Elis January 2022 (has links)
The radio magnetotellucic (RMT) method originates from (Tikhonov, 1950) and (Cagniard,1953) who discovered the possibility to estimate resistivity in the Earth’s subsurface using naturally occurring telluric currents. This through measuring the surface impedance of electromagnetic waves. Later (Paal, 1965) makes use of electromagnetic plane-waves originating from radio transmitters that operates in the very low frequency range (10 − 30kHz). These plane waves artificially induce telluric currents which can then be used to estimate resistivity in shallow subsurface. It is hence the source of the electromagnetic wave inducing the telluric current that named the RMT method accordingly. It’s then shown by (Bastani, 2001) that the signal can be measured in an even broader band (10 − 250kHz) to gain a better vertical resolution. Finally, frequency of the electromagnetic wave is affecting the skin depth and one can therefore estimate the depth of resistivity layers in the subsurface. In this thesis a data processing algorithm has been developed, based on the work in (Bastani, 2001), that processes RMT field data. Impedance, resistivity among other quantities is calculated. One can then export this data and use it in existing modeling software. New processing parameters has been implemented and its effect on the data set investigated. The software is implemented in matlab, and tested with synthetic data and data measured at Blötberget, Sweden. However, work is still to be done due to field equipment malfunction during measurements at Blötberget. This rendering an, at least partly, faulty data set. Therefore one cannot completely exclude calibration issues until a clean data set is taken.
