Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Zootecnia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2011. / ABSTRACT The experiment was conducted at Moura?s Experimental Campus, in the Laboratory of Ruminants, Department of Animal Science, University of the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri, in the town of Curvelo, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. There had been used for the digestibility trial 12 sheep, Santa Inez crossbred males fed with four diets in total, with different levels of substitution of Tifton 85 hay by the residue of passion fruit: 0% (control), 20%, 40% and 60% replacements. Consumption was evaluated and there was a total collection of feces and urine, with appropriate samples for further analysis. The experimental design was randomized with initial weight as covariate. The nutrient intake was not influenced by levels of substitution. With the exception of the NDF, there was no significant difference in the apparent digestibility of nutrients, or with nitrogen balance. For the performance test were used 20 confined animals, male crossbred Santa In?s. The same treatments were tested. Rations were supplied and sampled for analysis. Weight measurements were performed weekly to assess weight gain. At the end of 63 days of confinement was evaluated biometric measurements and the animals were slaughtered. Therefore, there have been analyzed, weights and carcass, and non-housing components. The experimental design was randomized blocks, and the means subjected to regression analysis using PROC GLM of SAS statistical software (SAS, 2002). The intake of DM and CP were influenced by treatments with high values to the level of 40% substitution, as well as gains in weight. For carcass yield the best results were recorded for 60% substitution. For analysis of cuts and biometric measures only the palette and chest circumference differed, as well as rumen/reticulum, omasum and small intestine for non-housing components. It is recommended to replace the hay residue of passion when there is a reduction in the cost of the diet

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of food supplementation on performance of ewes and lambs kept in deferred pasture during the final third of gestation until weaning. The experiment conducted in the experimental area of the Study Group in Forage (GEFOR) located in the Campus Maca?ba the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), from December 30, 2015 to June 19, 2016. Used 55 matrices, with no defined racial pattern, with an average of 120 days of gestation at the beginning of experiment. 61 lambs were generated from of birth single and twin. The matrices randomly distributed in three treatments: multiple mixture supplementation and concentrated supplementation at 0.4% and 0.8% of the live weight. The matrices remained in deferred pasture of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu in the daytime, collected at collective bays where the supply of supplements occurred. The performance of the matrices evaluated from the live weight, average daily gain and total weight gain. The performance of the offspring evaluated from the birth weight, with weekly weighing up to the age of 90 days (weaning age). Thus, it was possible to follow the average daily weight gain (GMD) and the total weight gain (GT). The biometric measurements started at 30 days of age and biweekly until reaching 90 days of age. There was an effect (P <0.05) of feed supplementation and type of calving in live weight at calving. Sheep supplemented with 0.8% live weight concentrate had the lowest weight losses than those supplemented with 0.4% concentrate and multiple blend. There was an effect (P <0.05) of the food supplementation of the mother, the sex of the lamb, the calving type and the breed of the breeder on the live weight of the lamb at birth at 30, 60 and 90 days of age. The variables presented had an effect (P <0.05) on GMD and GT from lambs from birth to weaning. The biometric measurements of the lambs had a significant effect (P <0.05) of the dietary supplementation of the matrix and the type of delivery, single or twin. The use of concentrated supplementation at a level of 0.4% of live weight allows better productive and reproductive indexes for ewes kept in deferred pasture. Lambs whose mothers receive concentrated supplementation at a level of 0.4% of live weight present better development and growth, as well as greater viability for the production system.
