The subject of this study is the actress Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) whom, based in her biography, I suppose to be a carrier of a melancholic potentiality because of the exhibition of a series of melancholic features and for have suffered a narcissistic disqualification in the primordial moments of the constitution of her psyche. The objective of this study is to make a psychopathologic read of the case, prioritizing the identity conflict of Marilyn Monroe. The psychoanalysis is the theory used in this work, which has as principal authors Freud, Aulagnier and Violante / A presente pesquisa consiste em um estudo sobre a potencialidade melancólica. O sujeito desse estudo é a atriz Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) que, baseado em sua biografia, suponho ser portadora de uma potencialidade melancólica por exibir uma série de traços melancólicos e por ter sofrido uma desqualificação narcísica nos momentos primordiais da constituição da seu psiquismo. From the theoretical/conceptual point of view, the Psychoanalysis, while therapeutic technique, theory of the psyche and method of investigation of the unconscious, was the used referential, especially the work of Aulagnier, Freud and Violante. The relevance and the clinical usefulness and/or social of that research is justified in the measure in that, the concept of Melancholic Potentiality, while diagnostic hypothesis, can guide, from the ethical and technical point of view of the analyst listening and of other professionals that are devoted to the clinical praxis / O presente estudo consiste na investigação, elaboração e desenvolvimento do conceito de Potencialidade Melancólica através de pressupostos teóricos, bem como, a partir de um estudo de caso realizado junto a um adolescente, estando esse em cumprimento de medida sócio-educativa de internação. Do ponto de vista teórico/conceitual, a Psicanálise, enquanto técnica terapêutica, teoria do psiquismo e método de investigação do inconsciente, foi o referencial por mim utilizado, especialmente as obras de Aulagnier, Freud e Violante. A relevância e a utilidade clínica e/ou social dessa pesquisa se justifica na medida em que, o conceito de Potencialidade Melancólica, enquanto hipótese diagnostica, pode orientar, do ponto de vista ético e técnico a escuta do analista e de outros profissionais que se dedicam à práxis clínica
