Este trabalho objetivou correlacionar os principais indicadores de integridade superficial à energia específica de corte no micro e macrofresamento de canais usinados no aço ABNT 1045. Foi determinada a influência do avanço por dente (f z) e da profundidade de usinagem (ap) na energia específica de corte, microdureza, microestrutura, temperatura de corte, formação de rebarbas e rugosidade da peça. Os ensaios foram conduzidos sem aplicação de fluido lubrirrefrigerante em um centro de usinagem CNC Hermle C800U, adotando simultaneamente corte concordante e discordante. Utilizou-se fresas de carbeto de tungstênio revestidas de TiNAl, 0,8 e 2,0 mm com duas arestas, aplicadas em micro e macrofresamento, respectivamente. Análise de Variância (ANOVA) foi empregada para a determinação de significâncias dos fatores de controle nas variáveis de resposta. Os resultados revelaram que a integridade superficial decorrente do microfresamento, mesmo com parâmetros de corte brandos, é mais afetada se comparada à do macrofresamento, pois, em média, a energia específica de corte foi superior 75%, a microdureza superficial 75%, a camada encruada 5x, a deformação microestrutural 60%, a temperatura de corte 3x e o tamanho da rebarda alcançou a largura do microcanal para avanços por dente inferiores a 1/3 do raio de aresta da ferramenta. Apenas a rugosidade diminuiu em média 16%, porém qualitativamente apresentou... / Micromachining produces microcomponents mainly for areas such as microelectronics, medical and aerospace, and it is continually evolving due to the release of new materials with improved properties, tools with reduced dimensions and machines more rigid and accurate, wherefore studies relating surface integrity of workpieces aiming at improving the performance of miniaturized components are still an incipient field of research. This research correlated the main surface integrity indicators to the specific cutting energy in the micro and macromilling of channels machined in ABNT 1045 steel. The effects of feed per tooth (f z) and depth of cut (ap) upon the specific cutting energy, microhardness, microstructure, cutting temperature, burr formation and workpiece roughness were determined. The experiments were carried out without coolant in a CNC machining center Hermle C800U by adopting simultaneously up and downmilling. 0.8 and 2.0 mm diameter endmills with two flutes, coated with TiNAl were used in tests for micro and macromilling, respectively. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) allowed determining statistical significances of control factors on the response variables. The results revealed that surface integrity from micromilling, even with gentle cutting parameters, is more affected when comparing to that from macromilling, since specific cutting energy was superior on average 75%, surface microhardness 75%, work hardened layer 5 times, microstructure deformation 60%, cutting temperature 3 times and burr size reached the microchannel width for feeds per tooth lower than a third of tool edge radius. The mechanical micromachining, performed by cutting, is a good alternative when it is desired to create these components, but with the reduction of the scale of machining, cutting may occur with a highly negative rake angle and a small variation in undeformed chip thickness can influence the cutting process and the chip formation, creating the size effect. This research quantified the influence of feed per tooth (fz) and depth of cut (ap) on microhardness and specific cutting energy aiming at evaluating the size effect under aspect of the workpiece material and tool geometry (edge radius re) on micromilling of ABNT 1045 steel. A study of infrared femtosecond laser irradiation on monolayer graphene on SiO2/Si substrate

Graphene is a single hexagonal atomic carbon layer. Since its discovery, graphene is emerging as an exciting and promising new material to impact various areas of fundamental research and technology. It has potentially useful electrical properties for device applications such as graphene photodetectors and graphene-based sensors. This thesis focuses on the femtosecond laser processing of graphene from both scientific and industrial points of view. Started from the manufacturing process, a new manufacturing route for graphene devices based on a femtosecond laser system is explored. In this thesis, the graphene ablation threshold was determined in the range of 100 mJ/cm2. In this deposited fluence range, selective removal of graphene was achieved using femtosecond laser processing with little damage to the SiO2 /Si substrate. This finding supports the feasibility of direct patterning of graphene for silicon-substrate field effect transistors (FETs) as the gate dielectric, silicon dioxide is only negligibly removed (2~10 nm) and no damage occurs to the silicon. Beyond the selective removal of graphene, the effects of exposing femtosecond laser pulses on a monolayer of graphene deposited on a SiO2/Si substrate is also studied under subthreshold irradiation conditions. It has been demonstrated that a femtosecond laser can induce defects on exposure. The dependence of the D, G, and 2D Raman spectrum lines on various laser pulse energies was evaluated using Raman Spectroscopy. The I (D)/I (G) ratio was seen to increase with increasing laser energy. The increase in the D’ (intravalley phonon and defect scattering) peak at 1620 cm-1 appeared as defective graphene. These findings provide an opportunity for tuning graphene properties locally by applying femtosecond laser pulses. Applications might include p-n junctions, and the graphene doping process. To explore the power absorption process in graphene and the SiO2/Si substrate, a theoretical model was developed based on the transfer-matrix method. The results revealed that the most significant absorption was in the silicon substrate. The light reflection form each layer was considered. The model shows the temperature oscillations are more significant in the silicon layer compared to the silicon dioxide which can provide a theoretical rationale for the swelling effect observed in the experiments. This model can assist in the choice of laser parameters chosen for future laser systems used in the production of graphene devices.
