Migrant Pathways: Urbanization and Transnational Migration in Twentieth Century MexicoVelazquez, Richard 21 November 2016 (has links)
Scholars of Mexican migration, both in the U.S. and in Mexico, have defined the Mexican migration by the transnational migration experience. While certainly an important aspect of Mexican migration, this narrow focus has overlooked an arguably more significant phenomenon for migratory communities in Mexico: rural to urban migration. Working primarily with the personal testimonies of people who have migrated to the United States has revealed that urbanization has played a major role in the lives of many transnational migrants, many of whom only resorted to international migration when their ability to migrate and work in Mexican cities was compromised. By looking at changes in Mexican migration over a century, it becomes clear that transnational migration only occurs en masse as a result disruption. For rural Mexicans, this disruption came in the form of private labor recruitment, contracted labor programs, or displacement resulting from violence or political and economic restructuring.

The objective of this research is to discuss the paper that Rio Claro city has in the process of the interiorization of the industry in São Paulo State, that started more effectively in early 1970. Also it was our objective to show that because of the spread of the industry there was an increase in the migratory process, in all over the State, including in Rio Claro city. We tried to show that the migration process has brought has brought a lot of transformation to the small and medium cities in São Paulo State, including Rio Claro.

Základní znaky migračních procesů v Evropě od konce roku 1918 se zřetelem ČR / The Basic Characteristics of Migration Process in Europe from the the end of 1918 (in consideration of the Czech Republic)TOMÍŠKOVÁ, Helena January 2010 (has links)
My diploma thesis deals with trends of migration in Europe after 1918 with a particular regard to Czech Republic region. It consists of 5 chapters. The first chapter is aimed at the main definitions concerning migration. The second chapter deals with streams of migration in Europe between 1918 and 1945. The chapter is divided into several subchapters examining the situation between, during and after World War II in European and Czech region. The third chapter reflects the period of Cold War when the migration was of post-colonial or labour character or it was influenced by asylum requests. In addition, the chapter mentions the question of Czechoslovakia which was attached to the eastern communist block after World War II. The fourth chapter is aimed at the migration after 1989 which was defined mainly by the fall of Iron curtain. This event was accompanied by increasing number of eastern migrants and by fear of European Community connected with it. The ?European fortress? started to be built during this period and the main manifestation of this phenomenon was strong restriction outwards and liberation inside. Asylum policy was influenced by war conflicts in Yugoslavia in nineties. The last chapter deals with the Czech Republic after 1989 and it is divided into 3 subchapters ? period between 1989 and 2004, period after joining the European Union and general trends of Czech migration in the last years.

Motilité cellulaire et immunocompétente des hémocytes de mollusques marins : applications aux diagnostics environnementaux / Cell motility and immunocompetence of Mytilus edulis hemocytes : applications to environmental diagnosticsRioult, Damien 07 November 2013 (has links)
Mytilus edulis is a bivalve mollusk and sessile filter feeder. This organism has a major advantage, both in aquaculture and in many environmental monitoring programs as an indicator species of the level of contamination by xenobiotics. This manuscript provides a review of the current understanding of the mechanisms of innate immunity exclusively invertebrates, focusing particularly prevalent role of immunocompetent cells in M. edulis : hemocytes . Our results allow us to propose an hemocyte subpopulations classification. By conventional cytological staining, flow cytometry equipped with a Coulter volume and characterization of cell motilities by videomicroscopy (time-lapse), our results provide a description of the activities and interactions at least three hemocyte subpopulations: basophils, and eosinophils hyalinocytes . The rate of of hemocytes migration was measured in vitro by a new method, the tracking of nuclei in time-lapse. This approach allows quantifying the migratory activity of these cells and their perturbations, including environmental stress. The second axis consists of an analysis of the phenotype Multi Xenobiotic Resistance (MXR) in the hemocyte subpopulations. This work also indicates that carriers ABCC / MRP regulate cell motility, which opens important perspectives in terms of biology immunity and evaluation of the immunocompetence of these animals.

Internal migration between US-states. A social network analysis.Maier, Gunther, Vyborny, Michael January 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In this paper we use the novel (at least in regional science) technique of social network analysis and apply it to one of the most analyzed topics in the discipline, US internal migration. We want to see whether social network analysis can yield any new insights into this well known process. We want to compare the technique to more conventional methods of analysis in migration. The paper presents an overview of social network analysis, defines key concepts and describes the main components of the technique. This discussion will also involve a discussion of currently available software for social network analysis. Then, we will apply the technique to the official data about internal migration between US states as published by the US bureau of the census, to see whether the technique can reproduce the main results of the traditional techniques and whether it can yield any new insights. / Series: SRE - Discussion Papers
