Modelling and Simulation of Filopodial Protrusion

Ezeanochie, Tochukwu Chinedu January 2015 (has links)
The effect of substrate surface topology on the interaction of living cells with inanimate substrates is a well-established phenomenon. When cells are placed on biomaterials, they outgrow protrusions called filopodia that sense surface features in their immediate surroundings and initiate the formation of stable cell adhesion complexes closer to the cell body. Adhesion proteins permit filopodia to constantly explore the surrounding microenvironment. A better understanding of the relationship of filopodia with surface features is highly relevant for exploiting custom-made surfaces to guide cell activity. In this work, mathematical modeling and simulation were used to describe different phenomena related to the interaction of a filopodium with its microenvironment, with the aim of reproducing experimentally observed phenomena associated to filopodia growth and interactions with substrates. The Kelvin Voigt model was used for the viscoelastic response of filopodia. Result predict filopodia protrusion under test conditions and helps improving our understanding on the effect of substrate topology on the biomechanical response of filopodial extensions.

Enhanced IEEE 802.11.p-Based MAC Protocols for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

Nasrallah, Yamen January 2017 (has links)
The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is a cooperative system that relies on reliable and robust communication schemes among vehicles and between vehicles and their surroundings. The main objective of the ITS is to ensure the safety of vehicle drivers and pedestrians. It provides an efficient and reliable transportation system that enhances traffic management, reduces congestion time, enables smooth traffic re-routing, and avoids economic losses. An essential part of the ITS is the Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET). VANET enables the setup of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) as well as Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication platforms: the two key components in the ITS. The de-facto standard used in wireless V2V and V2I communication applications is the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC). The protocol that defines the specifications for the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer and the physical layer in the DSRC is the IEEE 802.11p protocol. The IEEE 802.11p protocol and its Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) mechanism are the main focus of this thesis. Our main objective is to develop new IEEE 802.11p-based protocol for V2V and V2I communication systems, to improve the performance of safety-related applications. These applications are of paramount importance in ITS, because their goal is to decrease the rate of vehicle collisions, and hence reduce the enormous costs associated with them. In fact, large percentage of vehicle collisions can be easily avoided with the exchange of relevant information between vehicles and the Road Side Units (RSUs) installed on the sides of the roads. In this thesis, we propose various enhancements to the IEEE 802.11p protocol to improve its performance by lowering the average end-to-end delay and increasing the average network throughput. We introduce multiple adaptive algorithms to promote the QoS support across all the Access Categories (AC) in IEEE 802.11p. We propose two adaptive backoff algorithms and two algorithms that adaptively change the values of the Arbitrary Inter-Frame Space (AIFS). Then we extend our model to be applied in a large-scale vehicular network. In this context, a multi-layer cluster-based architecture is adopted, and two new distributed time synchronization mechanisms are developed.

Procesní modely jako nástroj řízení

Vilím, Tomáš January 2008 (has links)
Práce artikuluje principy reengineeringu (BPR) a popisuje okolnosti, za kterých byl poprvé koncept reengineeringu formulován. V reakci na kritiky reengineeringu následně vzniká samotný koncept procesního řízení. Práce charakterizuje procesně řízený podnik a následně procesně řízený podnik popisuje formalizovaně ? pomocí modelu. Práce předkládá stručný pohled na to, jak dnes vypadá koncept procesního řízení.

Standardizace datových struktur finančního BI řešení / Standardization of data structures of a financial BI solution

Chaloupecký, Stanislav January 2010 (has links)
In this diploma thesis I concentrate on analysing the possibilities of standardization of financial Business Intelligence solution. The objective is firstly to assess whether it is useful to create a so-called standard model, i.e. a solution model, which could be used repeatedly in independent BI project implementations. The objective is to analyse whether there are similarities among the implemented BI projects in terms of content requirements (measures and dimensions), or what are the differences. The objective is then to design a standard solution model (design relational and dimensional model for data structures). Another objective is to create a functional prototype solution based on the designed model, i.e. to create the actual data structures and fill them with data. A part of this prototype solution should be a set of demonstrative reports. The objectives will be achieved first of all by analysing the theoretical foundations, which provides the literature, and by analysing available real project documentation. Considered BI projects have been implemented within several non-financial commercial institutions. That means that the outputs of this thesis are applicable primarily in non-financial enterprises environments. In the next step, the dimensional modelling techniques will be used to create the schema. Then, leveraging the knowledge of BI solution development techniques on Microsoft SQL Server platform, the prototype solution will be deployed. Reports will be developed using the Microsoft Excel client tool. The benefit of this thesis consists in the model added value, which can be used as the core of newly developed financial BI solutions. The implementation process should by this spare some time. Another benefit of the thesis is the possible use of the prototype solution as a tool for customized demonstration of the financial BI capabilities to potential customers.

Porovnání Black-Scholesova modelu s Hestonovým modelem / A comparison of the Black-Scholes model with the Heston model

Obhlídal, Jiří January 2015 (has links)
The thesis focuses on methods of option prices calculations using two different pricing models which are Heston and Black-Scholes models. The first part describes theory of these two models and conlcudes with a comparison of the risk-neutral measures of these two models. In the second part, the relations between input parameters and the option price generated by these models are clarified. This part ends up with an analysis of the market data and it answers the question which model predicts better.

Ocenenie spoločnosti SYNER, s. r. o. / Valuation of the company SYNER

Gergelyová, Jana January 2014 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is to analyze the financial health of the company Syner, and determine the market value of the company based on publicly available information. The value of the company should provide important information for owners, whether access to the proposed takeover of foreign investors or reject the offer. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the processes and methodology of valuation, then in the practical part is introduction of company, financial and strategic analysis and valuation of the company itself.

Genetické algoritmy – implementace paralelního zpracování / Genetic Algorithms - Implementation of Multiprocessing

Tuleja, Martin January 2018 (has links)
Genetic algorithms are modern algorithms intended to solve optimization problems. Inspiration originates in evolutionary principles in nature. Parallelization of genetic algorithms provides not only faster processing but also new and better solutions. Parallel genetic algorithms are also closer to real nature than their sequential counterparts. This paper describes the most used models of parallelization of genetic algorithms. Moreover, it provides the design and implementation in programming language Python. Finally, the implementation is verified in several test cases.
