The study of protected areas as integrated management systems and the recent changes of categories in these reserves for the formation of mosaics of Conservation Units lead us to the perception of the transformations in the way which communities that depend on natural resources that these spaces provide, relate to its surroundings. How to make sure that the environmental management is effectively participatory and which are the elements of the relationship of these communities to its surroundings are the axles that guided this work. The proposal of this study was based on the study of the environmental perception of neighborhood residents of BR- 116 road, in the stretch where the State Park of Rio Turvo is located, in the city of São Paulo, in order to raise relevant issues in the relationship of these residents with their living space and, consequently, contribute to the participatory management of the Park and to the search for values and pro-environmental behaviors
