With the quick growth of distance education mediated by Information and Communication Technologies, institutions have been gradually using this modality of education as a means to access knowledge and expand opportunities of learning along life and make them accessible to everybody. Thus, there is the need of taking some considerations tgowards respect of theoretical and methodological principles that have to guide the elaboration and accomplishment of distance courses through Internet and the role of the teacher in this modality of teaching / Com o rápido crescimento da educação à distância mediada pelas tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação, as instituições vêm, cada vez mais, utilizando esta modalidade de ensino como meio para democratizar o acesso ao conhecimento e expandir oportunidades de aprendizagem ao longo da vida. Assim, torna-se necessário levantar algumas considerações a respeito dos princípios teóricos e metodológicos que devem orientar a elaboração e a realização de cursos à distância, via Internet, e o papel do professor nesta modalidade de ensino
