The Relationships Between Seventh And Tenth Grade Students' / Self-estimated Intelligence Dimensions And Their Science Or Physics AchievementUysal, Emel 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This study aimed to explore the self-estimated intelligence dimensions of seventh and tenth grade students, and the effect of grade level, gender, age, socio economic status (SES), physics/science achievement, and branch in school (science-math/literature-math/social sciences-literature) on these dimensions.
In this study a Multiple Intelligence Inventory was used as measuring instrument. The study was conducted in randomly selected 26 elementary and 7 high schools throughout Ç / ankaya, Keç / iö / ren and Yenimahalle districts of Ankara with a total of 3721 seventh and tenth grade students in fall 2003-2004 semester.
The data obtained from the administration of the measuring instrument were analyzed by using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and bivariate correlations. Results indicated that most dominant intelligence of seventh, tenth, and all students was the interpersonal intelligence according to their self-perceptions. Results of the statistical analyses indicated that grade level of students had a significant effect on their self-estimated intelligence dimensions. Strengths and weakness of the students vary according to their grade level. Also, significant differences found in female and male students& / #65533 / self-estimated intelligence dimensions for both two different grade levels, and tenth grade students coming from three different branches. Bivariate correlations revealed low positive correlations between science achievement and interpersonal intelligence of seventh graders.

Previous issue date: 2014-09-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This research is a result of an applied research that aims to investigate the conceptual theoretical presuppositions necessary to create a conceptual model enough to produce hypermedia didactic material to be used to the distance teaching. To produce an interactive prototype based on press and audiovisual media it was used an experimental methodology designed by an interdisciplinary developer s team from the science, communication and education areas. For that reason, it was created a conceptual model based on Howard Gardner Multiple Intelligence Theory (TIM). To the interactive tests it was used an authorial tool named Marker, that was developed to create interactive applying to the Interactive Digital TV TVDI in addition to some video marker techniques. As a result, two didactic materials were produced: a didactic book and an interactive video lesson, that serve as a model to produce managers course. Some tests could proof the conceptual model has a good applicability, showing the interactive applications making possible managers access their multiple intelligence, with different ways to their learning. The validation of this model allows verify the interactivity promoted by this material giving to the learner the possibility to develop his/her potentialities to activate the most valuable minds in the future. / Este estudo é resultado de uma pesquisa aplicada que teve como objetivo investigar pressupostos teóricos conceituais para a criação de um modelo conceitual para a produção de material didático hipermídia para Educação a distância. Nesse sentido, foi utilizada a metodologia experimental na produção do protótipo interativo em mídia impressa e audiovisual por meio de uma equipe interdisciplinar de desenvolvedores da área de ciência da computação, comunicação e de educação. Para isso, foi criado um modelo conceitual baseado na Teoria das Inteligências Múltiplas (TIM) de Howard Gardner. Para os testes de interatividade, foi utilizada uma ferramenta de autoria denominada Marker, desenvolvida visando gerar aplicações interativas para a Televisão Digital Interativa TVDI com técnicas de marcação em vídeo. Como resultado, foram produzidos dois materiais didáticos: um caderno didático e uma videoaula interativa, que servirão de parâmetros para a produção de cursos para gestores. Os testes comprovaram que o modelo conceitual possui boa aplicabilidade, demonstrando que as aplicações interativas produzidas podem possibilitar aos gestores acionar suas múltiplas inteligências e buscar diferentes caminhos para a aprendizagem. A validação do modelo permitiu verificar que a interatividade proporcionada pelo material pode conduzir o aprendente a desenvolver potencialidades para acionar as mentes mais valorizadas no futuro.

behavior and the profile of multiple intelligences of the coordinators of the programs of broad
after-graduation sensu and stricto sensu of the Federal Universities of the State of Rio Grande
Do Sul - UFSM; UFRGS; UFPel and FURG. The question of the Management Behavior was
related to the theory of Multiple Intelligence (M.I.), in this in case that, for having if
identified, in the theory of Gardner, great relation enters the profile of multiple intelligences
and the abilities of each person, as well as the possibility, according to author, to work these
intelligences in I benefit of the interests of each one. To answer to this problem of research it
was used quantitative boarding, adopting the Multicasos Study as research strategy and the
collection of data through the application of questionnaires, structuralized and validated on
the basis of the theoretical models cited, together the coordinators of the courses of aftergraduation
of the Federal Universities of the Great River of the South As well as, searched
through the theory that intelligence that already had been identified as influential in the profile
of "ideal" management abilities. In these studies linguistic intelligence and interpersonal
intelligence had been the ones that if had detached as most adequate for a management
profile. In this study intrapersonal intelligence was the one that more had prominence,
demonstrating that the same one also exerts influence in a management profile. Besides
advancing and including a little plus a theory coming of the psychology, that is the theory of
multiple intelligences, and that it can come to contribute very still in administrative sciences. / Este trabalho buscou investigar a relação existente entre o perfil de comportamento gerencial
e o perfil de inteligências múltiplas dos coordenadores dos programas de pós-graduação lato
sensu e stricto sensu das Universidades Federais do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul UFSM;
UFRGS; UFPel e FURG. A questão do Comportamento Gerencial foi relacionada à teoria das
Inteligências Múltiplas (I.M.), nesse caso, por ter se identificado, na teoria de Gardner, grande
relação entre o perfil de inteligências múltiplas e as habilidades de cada pessoa, bem como a
possibilidade, segundo o autor, de trabalhar essas inteligências em beneficio dos interesses de
cada um. Para responder a esse problema de pesquisa utilizou-se a abordagem quantitativa,
adotando o Estudo Multicasos como estratégia de pesquisa e a coleta de dados através da
aplicação de questionários, estruturados e validados com base nos modelos teóricos citados,

gerencial. Além de avançar e incluir um pouco mais uma teoria vinda da psicologia, que é a

Education programmes of the previous education departments in South Africa were based mainly on individual achievement and competition. In the new Outcomes Based programmes there is a shift to interaction, shared knowledge and the mastering of a variety of interaction skills. Ned Herrmann’s (1996) theory about the complexity of the human brain, the MI-theory of Gardner (2000b) and Sternberg’s (1997), Litzinger and Osif’s (1993) view of thinking and learning styles form the theoretical framework of this study. This research focuses in the first place on the way that students experience group work and co-operative learning, secondlyon what facilitators know or do not know about MI (multiple intelligences), co-operative learning and groupwork and how they implement the principles in their planning and during contact sessions. The research problem is: To what extend do facilitators in higher education make provision for the learning style preferences and other individual differences of learners during contact sessions facilitated by means of group work and/or co-operative learning? How do the learners respond to these approaches? This mixed methods research is done through observation, semi-structured interviews, a diagnostic questionnaire and a content analysis of study documentation. Study documentation was analysed to determine to what extend facilitators provided for learners’ learning style preferences and other individual differences. The behaviour of teacher training students was recorded over a period of three months and in different group settings. Participants completed a diagnostic questionnaire and the data obtained were compared with their behaviour to determine if there is any correlation between certain learning styles and behaviour patterns. I found that although the questions and assignments leave room for the learners’ differences, there is no reference to MI and learning styles in the study documentation. The theory of co-operative learning and group work is addressed in die study documentation. Learners with high interpersonal intelligence scores participated spontaneously in group activities and co-operative learning. Contrary to this the intrapersonal learners responded in a negative way. Personality clashes, conflict, prejudice, etc. were resolved to a great extend by changing group combinations. Nevertheless, the intrapersonal learner maintains a negative response towards group activities and co-operative learning. There was little or no significant negative behavior observed from learners with high scores in the other seven intelligences according to Gardner (2000b). The outcome of the first contact session led me to the conclusion that co-operative learning and group work are valuable facilitating strategies on the basis of shared sources, knowledge and progress in learning activities. Although the facilitators used these facilitating strategies, I could find no evidence that they took learners’ preferences and differences into account during contact sessions. However, in the interviews it became clear that they are enthusiastic to learn more about MI and learning styles and ways to plan and facilitate according to that knowledge. Facilitators need to know the learners in order to accommodate their diversities in group activities and co-operative learning. Learners, on the other hand, need to know their own abilities, intelligence and learning style preferences. The aim of this study was to determine the possible successes and pitfalls in implementing a process to accelerate learning and raise learner performance through a multiple intelligence approach.
A study of the theory of Multiple Intelligences was conducted which also implied a thorough study of the physiology of the brain, how it learns and how it should be utilised in the classroom.
A case study was conducted amongst the learners and teachers of a specific school to determine their ability, willingness to change and their performance in the application of Multiple Intelligences in the classroom. The challenges associated with the implementation of the MI approach were established through different methods.
It was found that teachers have much more difficulty in adapting to a new teaching approach than the learners. Time constraints, constant monitoring and support, teacher training, teachers' attitude to change, big classes, a lack of resources and teacher resistance added to the reality which policy makers have to consider in implementing a new approach. / EDUCATIONAL STUDIES / MED (DIDACTICS)

Thesis (M. Ed. (Didatics)) / Assessment methods in Business Studies in the FET phase have had to change as a
result of the implementation of OBE and the NSC in South Africa. In order to
analyse how this has affected the education of learners, a case study, based on the
IEB was analysed.
Under the supervision of Umalusi, the IEB has developed new moderation systems
in order to quality assure SBA (School Based Assessment), represented by learners’
portfolios which constitute 25% of the final promotion mark for the NSC. The
guidelines and documentation for these moderation requirements are contained in
the IEB Business Studies SAG (Subject Assessment Guidelines). This document
forms the basis of the case study.The IEB, however, does not work in isolation and through their partnership with the
DoE the experience gained through implementing new assessment methods in
Business Studies as described in this study can be adapted for other subjects or
schools in the public sector.

Educational strategies for the development of spiritual intelligence (SQ) in South African secondary schoolsFerreira, Cheryl 06 1900 (has links)
The main research question of the study was: How can spiritual intelligence (SQ) be developed in secondary school students? This was motivated out of concern for the moral degeneration that secondary school students experience in South Africa. The literature review focused on the nature of SQ and how it can foster adaptive functioning and transformation in adolescents and the complexity of Religion Education (RE) in South African secondary schools. A case was made for developing educational strategies that can develop SQ in adolescents and create educational environments that not only encourages students to engage in dialogue that involves a broader conversation about religion and spirituality, but also supports transformational learning.
The empirical investigation to evaluate the approach and educational strategies that were used, implemented a qualitative case study design. Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory and the social constructivist theory were used as conceptual frameworks. Purposive and convenient sampling was employed to select ten Grade 11 students in a secondary school in Gauteng that reflected the demographics of the country’s population. Qualitative data collection included reflective activities and informal conversation interviews. Field notes were kept and all observations were documented in a self-reflective journal. This was followed by a focus group session and semi-structured interviews.
Findings revealed that the educational strategies had the capacity to develop core traits and mental abilities of SQ, provide peak experiences and enhance virtuous behaviour in adolescents. It was concluded that education should include content around the nature of SQ in conjunction with reflective and experiential activities. SQ provided a platform for epistemic relativity. It was thus concluded that SQ can be deliberately developed in South African secondary school contexts. The recommendations focussed on the role of institutions of higher learning in sensitising stakeholders regarding the relevance of SQ in South African educational contexts; training of in-service teachers; the importance of Life Orientation (LO) as conveyer of SQ and the role of the LO teacher in cascading SQ down to school students. Finally, a SQ training workshop was proposed. The study concluded with recommendations for further research. The limitations of the study were also presented. / Psychology of Education / D. Ed.
