Transformasionele leierskap en spirituele intelligensie in 'n nutsmaatskappy / Frederika Wilhelmina SchutteSchutte, Frederika Wilhelmina January 2005 (has links)
As result of economic uncertainty, rapid technological developments and continuous change, effective organisational transformation is required to ensure a competitive advantage. Transformational leadership is characterised by the ability to bring about significant organisational change. Transformational leadership is visionary-orientated and based on deeply fundamental values. This intrinsic value system which is a dimension of spirituality forms a spiritual foundation that guides and directs leaders' behaviour.
Recognising leadership as the manifestation of a leader's spiritual core has emerged from recent research, but no research studies could be found to confirm the relationship empirically speaking between transformational leadership and spiritual intelligence. Subsequently the aim of this research is to determine the relationship between transformational leadership and spiritual intelligence and how it is manifested in managers of a utility company. A literature study was undertaken to analyse the concepts of transformational leadership, spiritual intelligence and the key dimensions that described them. It leads to the conclusion that spiritual intelligence implies the "capacity to think with one's soul", bringing with it self development that may pre-dispose leaders to use transformational behaviour.
In the empirical study with a group of 56 managers from a utility company, their transformational leadership behaviour and spiritual intelligence levels were assessed by means of self-evaluation via the following measuring instruments: Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) (Kouzes & Posner, 1998) and a Spiritual Intelligence questionnaire developed by Minnaar (2005). Feedback from 97% of the managers of the utility company yields the following results: good reliability indices for measuring instruments, and that a significant meaningful correlation exists between transformational leadership and spiritual intelligence. The results of this study prove a relationship between transformational leadership and spiritual intelligence as manifested amongst managers of a utility company. The contribution of this study is to be found in that research was done on the relationship between two leadership elements, which had not previously been researched. / Thesis (M.B.A.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006

Role of Spiritual Intelligence in Public Policy in the African American Pentecostal ChurchSmith, James B 01 January 2019 (has links)
Although many U.S. faith-based organizations have become partners to the government, the African American Pentecostal Church (AAPC), which holds spirituality as a means of serving humanity as its theological framework, has remained a silent partner in public policy engagement. With the framework of spiritual intelligence, this qualitative case study addressed the perceptions of African American Pentecostal leaders regarding how the church’s theology may have an impact on the public policy engagement of its parishioners. Twelve African American Pentecostal Bishops were interviewed, and data were coded and analyzed to identify themes. Results revealed that participants use their spirituality to connect with public policy issues that relate to their personal experiences. Findings also indicated that the AAPC is not an organized denomination, but rather a conglomeration of factions. Lack of an organized epicenter and lack of training and development of its leaders prevent this church from engaging in the public sphere. Although members embrace their responsibility to care for the needs of others, the church lacks a collective response to community issues. Findings may be used to prepare the next generation of AAPC leaders to unify the church to offer spiritual solutions to public policy issues.

Exploring the contribution of spiritual intelligence to leadership in the public sectorKheswa, Gcina Elliot 20 January 2016 (has links)
Text in English / The aim of this research was to explore the contribution spiritual intelligence has made to leadership in the public sector; in an effort to encourage further debates about the legitimacy of spiritual intelligence in the workplace. The research design followed in this study is qualitative. The target population of this study were the
leaders of the Free State Department of Education who have had self-acknowledged spiritual intelligence experience in their leadership context. The construct `spiritual intelligence` is a relatively complex phenomenon; hence the participants were recruited through a snowball sampling technique.
The findings of this study revealed that spiritual intelligence contributes to leadership
in the public sector. This study revealed that there is an association between leadership and spirituality and spiritual intelligence according to the subjective views of the participants. This suggests that researchers need to recognise the core component of internal development of leaders. The research attempted to bring
about this type of awareness into the corporate world, and hopefully a valuable contribution will be made to future leadership attitudes, leadership styles, and working environment. / Psychology / D. Litt. et Phil. (Consulting Psychology)

Previous issue date: 2017-08-22 / This research intends to demonstrate that academic space may constitute in a
propitious environment to people's transformation through the understanding of a
spirituality that integrates sense and meaning to human being's lives. It is known that
the modern academic space is focused in a normotonic education, this is, based
primarily in the rational, in a fragmented, competitive and excluding way. Based
on this reality, our hypothesis is that allying the intellectual dimension to spirituality
will help human beings to build a path that will give them a purpose in life, in other
words, that the insertion of a spiritual perspective, integrative and holistic in the
academic environment can provide a transformation in the way people see
themselves, others and the world. The methodology used was bibliographic analysis,
and also a field survey with university graduate theology students from Pontifical
Catholic University of Goias. This inquiry demonstrated that spiritual intelligence can
be introduced in the academic grid and that, there are tools to this work that
contribute both to human being's transformation and academic space's
transformation, that begins to considerate the teaching-learning process in an
inclusive way.
integradora.

The Influence of Spiritual and Emotional Intelligence on Romantic Relationships of African AmericansHarris, Wanda Raquel 01 January 2019 (has links)
The use of religion-based spirituality was examined as a factor in strengthening and increasing emotional intelligence and regulation, facilitating relationship choices and maintenance, and as a key factor in the decision-making process of dating and partner selection among African Americans. The theoretical framework for this study included Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, on which both theories of spiritual and emotional intelligence stand, and Bowlby's theory of attachment. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to analyze relationships between spiritual and emotional intelligences and attachment styles among African American adults. In a criterion-based purposeful sample of 98 African American participants aged 27 and older, a negative correlation was found between high levels of spiritual and emotional intelligence in African Americans and attachment styles, meaning secure attachment styles were found in African Americans with higher levels of both spiritual and emotional intelligence. The study contributes to the validity and reliability of the SISRI, SSEIT, and the ECR-R among African Americans. Scores on these instruments in the study were within normal range. The information in this study may serve as a foundation for future studies on the importance of religion-based spirituality and the strengthening of emotional intelligence to facilitate successful romantic and marital relationships among African Americans, leading to stronger families and communities.

The Phenomenology of Everyday Experiences of Contemporary Mystics in the Jewish Traditions of KabbalahLevasseur, Priscilla W 01 August 2011 (has links)
This phenomenological study was conducted in order to understand the everyday experiences of contemporary mystics in the Jewish traditions of Kabbalah. This author could find no available information about psychological research of this topic in psychological, educational or psychiatric databases. She used the applied phenomenological methodology of Howard Pollio and the Research Groups at the University of Tennessee. Interviews were conducted by this author with eight volunteer, living, adult participants who lived throughout the United States and ranged in age from 37 to 60+ years. These mystics were found through various means after they had described themselves, by their own definitions, as mystics in the Jewish traditions(s) of Kabbalah. There were six men and two women who participated; four were Jewish and four were not. The interviews ranged from one to three hours in length, were recorded, and later transcribed for confidential analyses. After analyzing the results, the Ground of the participants’ experience was determined to be Being Aware. The Thematic Structure of the participants’ everyday experiences of living with their mystical events and processes contained six themes: 1) Divine/Sacred, 2) Receiving/Calling/Gift, 3) Knowing/Realizing, 4) Practices/Body, 5)Developing/Stages, and 6) Struggling: Self/Others/World. Implications for this study suggest that the everyday experiences of these mystical participants are different in many ways from everyday experiences of non-mystics. There is some support for the ideas of spiritual intelligence, spiritual giftedness, consciousness advancement. Appreciating intuition, higher emotional states, and the deeper, yet usually hidden parts of human experience, along with learning to identify and support young people who are having mystical experiences is a worthwhile goal for psychologists.

Ledarintelligens hos chefer och ledare i näringslivet med fokus på själslig intelligens / Leadership intelligence in managers and leaders in private companies: a focus on spiritual intelligenceLiveland Colombo, Jeanette, Östlund, Charlotta January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate, what in this study is defined as, spiritual intelligence in managers and leaders in private companies, and to validate instruments that measure, as the study defines as, leadership intelligence with a focus on spiritual intelligence. The study evaluated the spiritual intelligence of managers and leaders, and if there was differences in the level of spiritual intelligence between women and men. The study used a questionnaire in which participants were asked to answer questions about spiritual, emotional and rational intelligence. The study validated two scales of spiritual intelligence based on the Canadian instrument, SISRI (The Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory), one scale for spiritual intelligence, (SQ), which was part of a Swedish instrument, LIQ (Leadership Intelligence Questionnaire), and a new scale for the spiritual intelligence, NySQ. 90 managers and leaders in Västra Götaland, 37 women and 53 men, responded to the survey, the average age was 47 years. The survey responses were analyzed using quantitative methods. The study validated Ronthy´s scale of spiritual intelligence that showed a positive significant correlation with two scales that are designed to measure similar concepts. The results showed that women had a higher level of spiritual intelligence than men, and that managers and leaders with a high level of spiritual intelligence also had a high level of rational intelligence. The results shed new lights on abilities that might not have been valued enough in organizations or discussed in formal contexts.
