The study was developed through an intervention that consisted of three activities applied to guiding students in four classes of second grade high school of a state school in São Paulo. The activities were designed with the goal of putting students in a position of action and decision making to facilitate the understanding and the process of knowledge construction and were developed in groups of four or five students. The research classified as naturalist, by the fact that data collection was carried out directly on the site where the problem, is the central issue is to verify whether the teaching of Combinatorics, without the excessive use of formulas, through tutoring activities and use of multiplicative principle, can improve the teaching and understanding of that content. The results were obtained by analyzing the activities addressed by the students who were recorded, by observation, by notes taken by the researchers and also by the evaluation at the end of the research. It was found that the activities were essential for guiding a better performance of students who felt more secure and confident to carry out new activities. These activities represent the final product of this work and it is expected that constitute reference material for teachers who tirelessly seek for new methodologies. / O presente trabalho tem por objetivo descrever a elaboração, o desenvolvimento e a aplicação de atividades orientadoras de ensino numa área que usualmente é pouco explorada, a Análise Combinatória. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida através de uma intervenção que contou com três atividades orientadoras aplicadas a estudantes de quatro turmas da 2ª série do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública estadual no interior paulista. As atividades foram elaboradas com o objetivo de colocar os alunos numa posição de ação e tomadas de decisões para facilitar o entendimento e o processo de construção do conhecimento e foram desenvolvidas em grupos de quatro ou cinco alunos. A pesquisa que classificamos como naturalista, pelo fato de que a coleta de dados foi realizada diretamente no local em que o problema acontece, tem como questão central verificar se o ensino de Análise Combinatória, sem o uso abusivo de fórmulas, através de atividades orientadoras e da utilização do princípio multiplicativo, pode melhorar o ensino e a compreensão desse conteúdo. Os resultados foram obtidos através da análise das atividades resolvidas pelos estudantes que foram filmadas, pela observação e pelas anotações feitas pelos pesquisadores e também pela avaliação realizada ao final da pesquisa. Pôde-se constatar que as atividades orientadoras foram essenciais para um melhor desempenho dos estudantes que se sentiram mais seguros e confiantes para a realização de novas atividades. Essas atividades representam o produto final desse trabalho e espera-se que se constituam em material de consulta para professores que buscam, incansavelmente, novas metodologias.

Without using formulas, it presents an encouragement to use the Multiplicative Principle, tree diagram and list of possibilities as an important tool for solving various problems. We started the research making a description of the current curriculum documents in the Department of Education of the State of São Paulo, followed by historical overview and theoretical foundation. The survey was developed with the implementation of three activities with students from the 5th grade - 6 year to 8th grade - 9th year of elementary school in a Public State School in the city of Sorocaba/SP. These activities were designed to find out the students difficulties in the development of problems involving Combinatorial reasoning and to propose manipulative materials at low cost and to help in the construction and understanding of that content, since a big part of students and teachers consider it difficult to understand. These manipulative materials represent the final product of this research and it is hoped that teachers use them in their classrooms to make their classes more dynamic, rich and arousing the interest of the students. / A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo principal a confecção de material manipulável para trabalhar sequências de atividades introduzindo de maneira intuitiva e natural a noção de Análise Combinatória no Ensino Fundamental Anos Finais sem a utilização de fórmulas, incentivando o uso do Princípio Multiplicativo, do diagrama de árvore e da enumeração das possibilidades como uma ferramenta importante para a resolução de vários problemas. Iniciamos a pesquisa fazendo uma descrição dos documentos curriculares vigentes na Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São de São Paulo, seguida por um panorama histórico e fundamentação teórica. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida com a aplicação de três atividades com alunos da 5ª série/6º ano a 8ª série/9º ano do Ensino Fundamental de uma Escola Pública Estadual da cidade de Sorocaba/SP. Essas atividades foram elaboradas com o objetivo de constatar as dificuldades dos alunos no desenvolvimento de problemas que envolvam o raciocínio combinatório e propor materiais manipulativos, de baixo custo, que auxiliem na construção e compreensão desse conteúdo, considerados de difícil entendimento por grande parte de alunos e professores. Esses materiais manipulativos representam o produto final dessa pesquisa e espera-se que os professores o utilizem em suas salas de aulas para tornar suas aulas mais ricas e dinâmicas despertando o interesse dos alunos.

The researth was developed close to teachers of Fundamental and Secundary Education of the public school, participants of the project of continuous formation in the course of year 2002 for the agreement PUC-SP/SEE. In this direction, we analyzed the Mathematics Parameters National Curriculum (PCN-EF) of Fundamental Education, the Curriculum for Matematics Teathing of São Paulo 1th level, and two collections of didactic books adopted now by teachers of the public school. To follow in the analysis of the questionnaires, above all in questionnaire 2, it grew in a qualitative perspective. For that, it was used five questions, of the whith three of them were applied in the research accomplished by ESTEVES (2001) and their results validated by us. With the obtained data we could verify difficulties of establishing a systematic procedure, to formation of the groupings if the order is relevant or not. Concluiding, some considerations were made here about the research developed and given suggestions for future researches / No desenvolvimento desta pesquisa procuramos estudar e analisar os instrumentos disponíveis para o professor de Matemática ensinar Combinatória no Ensino Fundamental por processo de Modelagem, bem como seus conhecimentos sobre o objeto matemático em jogo. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida junto à professores da Ensino fundamental e Médio da rede pública de ensino, participantes do projeto de formação continuada no correr do ano de 2002 pelo convênio PUC-SP/SEE. Neste sentido, analisamos os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais de Matemática do Ensino Fundamental, a Proposta Curricular para o Ensino da Matemática do Estado de São Paulo 1º grau, e duas coleções de livros didáticos adotados atualmente por professores da rede pública. A seguir na análise dos questionários, sobretudo no questionário 2 se desenvolveu numa perspectiva qualitativa. Para tanto, utilizou-se de cinco questões, das quais três delas foram aplicadas na pesquisa realizada por ESTEVES (2001) e seus resultados validados por nós. Com os dados obtidos pudemos constatar dificuldades de ; estabelecer um procedimento sistemático, justificar as respostas, não uso ou pouco uso de representações e dificuldades para reconhecer na formação dos agrupamentos se a ordem é relevante ou não.
