Der Artikel setzt sich mit den Reflexionen zur musikalischen Zeit auseinander, die sich im 20. Jahrhundert entwickelten. Eckpunkte sind dabei unter anderem Henri Pousseurs Darmstädter Seminar über Anton Webern 1957, Abraham Moles Publikation 'Informationstheorie und ästhetische Wahrnehmung' von 1971 und die von Pierre Boulez initiierte Veranstaltung 'Le temps musical' 1978 in Paris.
