The investigation was held with a sample of students from two seventh grade classes of a public school in Porto Alegre. The results indicated that the use of spreadsheets favor learning and makes the classes more enjoyable for the students who were able to visualize the process which they were working with. A second test applied five months later, showed that the students who used the spreadsheets were able to have a greater retention of the content. The results also showed that the students feel comfortable with the technology and almost all of them said they felt more motivated with the classes in which computers were used. They felt very a well consequently they preferred these types of classes even though the laboratory conditions were not ideal.
