Diploma thesis deals with the implementation of LTE Cat-M1 technology in simulator NS--3 (Network Simulator 3). The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes key terms concerning IoT (Internet of Things), M2M (Machine-to-Machine) communication, LTE (Long Term Evolution) and LPWA (Low-Power Wide Area) networks. The practical part summarizes the possibilities of currently available modules for cellular technologies for NS-3, ie. the LENA module and the subsequent extension of LENA+ and ELENA. Simulation scenarios offer a comparison of LTE/LTE-A and LTE Cat-M1 (also known as eMTC - enhanced Machine Type Communication) technologies for M2M communication. The results of the simulations are well-arranged in the form of graphs and discussed at the end of the thesis.

The Diploma work deals with the implementation of LTE Cat-M technology in the simulation tool Network Simulator 3 (NS-3). The work describe LPWA technologies and their use cases. In first are described the main parts of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication. Subsequently are described and defined the most used technologies in LPWA networks. Technologies which are used in the LPWA networks are Sigfox, LoRaWAN, Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) and Long Term Evolution for Machines (LTE Cat-M), where LTE Cat-M technology is described in more details. Simulations are simulated in simulation tool NS-3 and use LENA module. In NS 3 tool are simulated Simulations, which give us informations of Network state according to different Network set up. At the end are done changes of Radio Resource Control (RRC) states in NS-3 tool. These changes are required for correct implementation LTE Cat-M technology in NS-3 tool. Then we are able to simulate simulations, which meet to definition of LTE Cat-M technology.

This master’s thesis deals with design and implementation of electric energy meter with support of automatic remote data collection. For the collecting of measured data is used narrowband PLC technology. The theoretical part describes the basic properties and standards of narrowband PLC technology, such as types of coupling circuits, modulations, frequency bands and interference problems. In the practical part, there is description of selected parts, such as control circuit power meter, modem, microcontroller and UART to USB converter. There are further described basic properties of narrowband PLC modem ST7570 by STMicroelectronics. The final chapter, implementation of the device, deals with designs of circuit PLC modem ST7570, power meter ADE7753 and converter USB to UART CP2102.

Diploma thesis is about narrowband PLC communication standards. The theoretical part describes details of all available OFDM standards including G3-PLC, PRIME, IEEE-1901.2 and G.hnem. The practical part deals with PRIME and G3-PLC standards. In this part is also compared OFDM technology with system of single carrier frequency in environment with real interferences. The last part describes developement of two firmwares for PLC modems Texas Instruments TMDSPLCKIT-V3, which allow UART communication and remote data collection. The thesis also includes Windows application developed to display and save collected data.

First part is focused on the history, suitable frequency bands, modulation techniques and mainly on the selection of the optimal modem device. Second section contains the description of the hardware design of the modem itself and clarifies the implementation of the PLC module to be used as a communication interface for a full residential automation solution. Last chapters of this thesis introduce the communication protocol, design of the software for the ATmega32 MCU and present of the final field testing under real conditions.

Being able to keep track of ones assets is a very useful thing, from avoiding losing ones keys or phone to being able to find the needed equipment in a busy hospital or on a construction site. The area of localization is actively evolving to find the best ways to accurately track objects and devices in an energy efficient manner, at any range, and in any type of environment. This thesis focuses on the last aspect of maintaining accurate localization regardless of environment. For radio frequency based systems, challenging environments containing many obstacles, e.g., indoor or urban areas, have a detrimental effect on the measurements used for positioning, making them deceptive. In this work, a method for correcting range measurements is proposed for a narrowband sub-GHz radio frequency based localization system using Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and Time-of-Flight (ToF) measurements for positioning. Three different machine learning models were implemented: a linear regressor, a least squares support vector machine regressor and a gaussian process regressor. They were compared in their ability to predict the true range between devices based on raw range measurements. Achieved was a 69.96 % increase in accuracy compared to uncorrected ToF estimates and a 88.74 % increase in accuracy compared to RSSI estimates. When the corrected range estimates were used for positioning with a trilateration algorithm using least squares estimation, a 67.84 % increase in accuracy was attained compared to positioning with uncorrected range estimates. This shows that this is an effective method of improving range estimates to facilitate more accurate positioning. / Att kunna hålla reda på var ens tillgångar befinner sig kan vara mycket användbart, från att undvika att ens nycklar eller telefon tappas bort till att kunna hitta utrustningen man behöver i ett myllrande sjukhus eller på en byggarbetsplats. Området av lokalisering utvecklas aktivt för att hitta de bästa metoderna och teknologierna för att med precision kunna spåra fysiska objekt på ett energieffektivt sätt, på vilken räckvidd som helst, och i vilken miljö som helst. Detta arbete fokuserar på den sista aspekten av att uppnå precis positionering oavsett miljö. För radiofrekvensbaserade system har utmanande miljöer med många fysiska hinder som till exempel inomhus och stadsområden en negativ effekt på de mätningar som används för positionering, vilket gör dem vilseledande. I detta arbete föreslås en metod för att korrigera avståndsmätningar i ett narrowband sub-GHz radiofrekvensbaserat lokaliseringssystem som använder Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)- och Time-of-Flight (ToF)-mätningar för positionering. Tre olika maskininlärningsmodeller har implementerats: en linear regressor, en least squares support vector machine regressor och en gaussian process regressor. Dessa jämfördes i sin förmåga att förutspå det sanna avståndet mellan enheter baserat på råa avståndsmätningar. De korrigerade avståndsmätningarna uppnådde 69.96 % högre nogrannhet jämfört med okorrigerade ToF-uppskattningar och 88.74 % högre nogrannhet jämfört med RSSI-uppskattningar. Avståndsuppskattningarna användes för positionering med trilateration och minsta kvadratmetoden. De korrigerade uppskattningarna gav 67.84 % mer precis positionering jämfört med de okorrigerde uppskattningarna. Detta visar att detta är en effektiv metod förbättra avståndsuppskattningarna för att i sin tur bidra till mer exakt positionering.

Decentralized Ambient System Identification of Structures

Many of the existing ambient modal identification methods based on vibration data process information centrally to calculate the modal properties. Such methods demand relatively large memory and processing capabilities to interrogate the data. With the recent advances in wireless sensor technology, it is now possible to process information on the sensor itself. The decentralized information so obtained from individual sensors can be combined to estimate the global modal information of the structure. The main objective of this thesis is to present a new class of decentralized algorithms that can address the limitations stated above. The completed work in this regard involves casting the identification problem within the framework of underdetermined blind source separation (BSS). Time-frequency transformations of measurements are carried out, resulting in a sparse representation of the signals. Stationary wavelet packet transform (SWPT) is used as the primary means to obtain a sparse representation in the time-frequency domain. Several partial setups are used to obtain the partial modal information, which are then combined to obtain the global structural mode information. Most BSS methods in the context of modal identification assume that the excitation is white and do not contain narrow band excitation frequencies. However, this assumption is not satisfied in many situations (e.g., pedestrian bridges) when the excitation is a superposition of narrow-band harmonic(s) and broad-band disturbance. Under such conditions, traditional BSS methods yield sources (modes) without any indication as to whether the identified source(s) is a system or an excitation harmonic. In this research, a novel under-determined BSS algorithm is developed involving statistical characterization of the sources which are used to delineate the sources corresponding to external disturbances versus intrinsic modes of the system. Moreover, the issue of computational burden involving an over-complete dictionary of sparse bases is alleviated through a new underdetermined BSS method based on a tensor algebra tool called PARAllel FACtor (PARAFAC) decomposition. At the core of this method, the wavelet packet decomposition coefficients are used to form a covariance tensor, followed by PARAFAC tensor decomposition to separate the modal responses. Finally, the proposed methods are validated using measurements obtained from both wired and wireless sensors on laboratory scale and full scale buildings and bridges.
