Tautos reprezentacijos problema postsovietiniame Lietuvos dramos teatre / Problem of National Representation at Post-Soviet Lithuanian Drama Theatre

Latiševičius, Janis 04 August 2011 (has links)
Tautinio identiteto samprata teatre... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Subject of the present Paper is expressions of national identity at theatre. The aim of the present Paper is to find out what type of nationality is reflected at plays of drama theatres. Analysis of various sources (repertoires of theatres, reviews of plays) has been selected as well some theatre people were interviewed and questionnaires for the society have been prepared in order to find out what part of the society’s life was taken by theatre. There are 13 state theatres operating in Lithuania, 8 of them are drama theatres. Such a number could be related to the established tradition in the cultural life in Lithuania. Analysis of 4 state drama theatres’ (National, Kaunas, Panevėžys J. Miltinis, and Šiauliai) repertoires has been selected for the research in order to find out what part of theatre repertoires is taken by national dramaturgy and what are the prevailing tendencies related to certain events in Lithuania or consequences thereof. The importance of theatre is very great in the society. Theatre is a form of public art enabling communication, speaking about the subjects that are relevant to the society or an individual. There is no coincidence that theatre is one of those cultural institutions where activities are under censorship in case of totalitarian or authoritarian regimes (we can remember the example of USSR). During the Soviet period the Lithuanian Theatre managed to remain as an opposite of the former order and to foster national consciousness, for instance... [to full text]

Obležen národem dramatiků. Jan Lier kritik a dramaturg Národního divadla / Besieged by a Nation of Playwrights. Jan Lier Critic and Dramaturge of the National Theatre in Prague

Ježková, Petra January 2012 (has links)
Besieged by a Nation of Playwrights Jan Lier Critic and Dramaturge of the National Theatre in Prague The cultural endeavours of the second half of the 19th century and the turn of the 20th century - from which we have inherited more than is immediately apparent - have for the most part already been described. Nevertheless, most of what we know about them comes to us only through selected figures from the realm of politics, literature, or theatre. At the same time, there existed many other individuals who had a significant influence on their time. They may not have been "pillars" of their era - many of which are retroactively constructed by subsequent eras and have often been uncritically conserved to this day. We have thus chosen to take a new look at this era in question through the figure of Jan Lier. Although Lier had been quite popular during his life and held several important positions in society, he was ignored by later historians. This dissertation presents the full range of Lier's activities, which we divide into three parts. The first section (Ecce Homo Jan Lier) describes the author's life from his youth to his literary debut and popular novels, which brought him fame as an author of railway novels and stylistically refined (perhaps excessively so) salon prose that irritated contemporary...

From Sorrow to Tragic Joy: the Tragic Aesthetic of W. B. Yeats

Brooks, John C. 05 1900 (has links)
One of the most important elements in Yeats' thought is his view of the tragic basis of art. This conception, which can best be called a tragic aesthetic, was developed shortly after 1900 in three prose works--certain fragments of the Samhain publication (1904), "Poetry and Tradition" (1907), and "The Tragic Theatre" (1910). The tragic view developed in these essays became the conceptual basis behind much of Yeats' poetry and therefore played a central role in the direction of his career. This thesis traces the lineaments of Yeats' tragic aesthetic in these early essays, determining its outline in the dreamy, often vague language in which it is expressed, and shows its impact on his poetry from 1904 to the end of his career in 1939.
