Optimized NURBS Curve Based G-Code Part Program for CNC Systems

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is widely used in many industries that needs high speed machining of the parts with high precision, accuracy and good surface finish. In order to avail this the generation of the CNC part program size will be immensely big and leads to an inefficient process, which increases the delivery time and cost of products. This work presents the automation of high-accuracy CNC tool trajectory planning from CAD to G-code generation through optimal NURBs surface approximation. The proposed optimization method finds the minimum number of NURBS control points for a given admissible theoretical cord error between the desired and manufactured surfaces. The result is a compact part program that is less sensitive to data starvation than circular and spline interpolations with potential better surface finish. The proposed approach is demonstrated with the tool path generation of an involute gear profile and a topologically optimized structure is developed using this approach and then finally it is 3D printed.

This thesis focuses on deterministic chaos and selected methods of chaos control. It briefly describes the matter of deterministic chaos and presents commonly used tools of analysis of dynamical systems exhibiting chaotic behavior. A list of frequently studied chaotic systems is presented and followed by a description of methods of chaos control and the optimization of these methods. The practical part is dedicated to the stabilization of two model systems and one real system with described methods.

Filtrace svalového rušení v EKG signálech / Muscle noise filtering in ECG signals

This master's thesis deals with the optimization of numerical coefficients of the Wiener filter for muscle noise filtering in ECG signals. The theoretical part deals with ECG signal characteristic and muscle interference. It also contains a summary of the wavelet transform, wavelet Wiener's filtration, methods for calculating of the threshold and thresholding. In the last theoretical part the characteristic optimization techniques, the exhausive search and Nelder-Mead simplex method are mentioned, which were implemented in the practical part of this thesis in MATLAB. The functional verification and Wiener's filter optimization were tested on the standard electrocardiograms database CSE. By using the methods of exhausive search, the initial estimate for the solution method Nelder-Mead was obtained. The optimization method Nelder-Mead gives better results in the orders of hundredths or tenths than the method of exhausive search. The practical part is finished by the comparison of results of implemented algorithm with optimum coefficients, implemented in this thesis, with the results of other methods for filtering muscle interference in ECG signals.

Individualization of fixed-dose combination regimens : Methodology and application to pediatric tuberculosis / Individualisering av design och dosering av kombinationstabletter : Metodologi och applicering inom pediatrisk tuberkulos

Introduction: No Fixed-Dose Combination (FDC) formulations currently exist for pediatric tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Earlier work implemented, in the software NONMEM, a rational method for optimizing design and individualization of pediatric anti-TB FDC formulations based on patient body weight, but issues with parameter estimation, dosage strata heterogeneity and representative pharmacokinetics remained. Aim: To further develop the rational model-based methodology aiding the selection of appropriate FDC formulation designs and dosage regimens, in pediatric TB treatment. Materials and Methods: Optimization of the method with respect to the estimation of body weight breakpoints was sought. Heterogeneity of dosage groups with respect to treatment efficiency was sought to be improved. Recently published pediatric pharmacokinetic parameters were implemented and the model translated to MATLAB, where also the performance was evaluated by stochastic estimation and graphical visualization. Results: A logistic function was found better suited as an approximation of breakpoints. None of the estimation methods implemented in NONMEM were more suitable than the originally used FO method. Homogenization of dosage group treatment efficiency could not be solved. MATLAB translation was successful but required stochastic estimations and highlighted high densities of local minima. Representative pharmacokinetics were successfully implemented. Conclusions: NONMEM was found suboptimal for the task due to problems with discontinuities and heterogeneity, but a stepwise method with representative pharmacokinetics were successfully implemented. MATLAB showed more promise in the search for a method also addressing the heterogeneity issue.
