Previous issue date: 2010-08-10 / With the increased access to information, technologies and markets; the supply options are
magnified as well, forcing the selection of a supplier that best contributes to the organizational
success. In this sense, selecting the right supplier can mean the difference between success
and failure. Bio-Manguinhos is in the market for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of
disease through vaccines, diagnostic reagents and biopharmaceuticals. Being a public
institution, it shares with the rest of the system the difficulty in obtaining public funds for
investment and the development of products may take more than 20 years. Given this
scenario, the search for partners to minimize development time of a product and share the cost
of investment becomes interesting. In this context, this work aims to develop a tool that helps
Bio-Manguinhos in selecting suppliers which contribute to the development and manufacture
of new products. So, there were two stages of interviews with the board of Bio-Manguinhos:
the first with the Deputy Directors, where the relevant criteria for selecting suppliers for new
products were identified; the second stage was conducted with the Director, where the criteria
identified by the Deputy Directors were confirmed and a method of multicriteria analysis,
AHP - Analytic Hierarchy Process was applied to assign weights to these criteria. Thus, we
created a tool with the criteria considered relevant and their representativeness within a
context that seeks to assist the organization to select suppliers for new products. The results
show that the relevant criteria and their order are: level of product development, compatibility
with the industrial park, compliance with regulatory requirements, product performance,
strength of the company and cost. This shows that the criteria closest to organizational
strategy have a greater representativeness. The criteria identified in this study, in their
essence, are not new; they are well known and mentioned by other researchers. Nevertheless,
as in all decision-making, especially the multicriteria, every organization seeks to identify the
important variables for a given decision-making and that choice is not necessarily the best one
for other organizations. / Com o aumento do acesso a informa??es, tecnologias e mercados, as op??es de fornecimento
s?o ampliadas, tornando necess?ria a sele??o de um fornecedor que melhor contribua para o
sucesso organizacional. Nesse sentido, selecionar o fornecedor certo pode significar a
atribuir pesos a esses crit?rios.

Quality driven collaborative decision making for product development under the influence of trustworthinessMeier, Stefan 09 September 2004 (has links)
The focus of this study is the effective prioritization of customer requirements in
collaborative product development. The CR priorities are often retrieved by
questioning and interviewing targeted customers. But the targeted customer
might not always be easily questioned, because they might not always be
obvious or clearly known. If customers might be known, they might not be able
to distinct the priorities for CR's, because everything is important to them.
Moreover concerns of the developer's organization and the society might not get
the necessary attention and it might be asked too much from the customer to
trade off all customer requirements (CR's) by their own. Because the resources
for an extensive customer interviewing might lack anyway the stakeholders
might prioritize the CR's on their own.
Efforts have already been undertaken to support cross-functional stakeholder
groups in finding priorities of CR's. Most of the investigated methods lacked the
ability to distinct the importance of CR's by a relative amount or were not able
to integrate the interdependency of stakeholders in other ways than a tiresome
negotiation processes. With the proposed Urn-Scheme approach the
stakeholders register their own individual priorities based on their perceptions of
what the relative priorities of the CR's might be. Furthermore the method
supports the stakeholders in considering the opinions of all other stakeholders.
The extent of taking others and own opinion into account is based on quantified
social interdependencies, i.e. in this study measured trust and trustworthiness
into the capability of every voter to understand costumers' perceived desired
product quality. The summed up trustworthiness in prioritizing CR's of every
stakeholder is used in a further step to finally transform the individual priorities
to relative priorities of CR's from the whole group.
With the amplification of votes from the stakeholders, who are trusted to
prioritize better than others, an improvement of the decision making process will
be achieved. A careful developed, easily to understand mathematical framework
builds the fundament for manifold analysis of the obtained voting results, e.g.
consensus analysis, priority significance check. Moreover the framework makes
the proposed method transparent and the obtained results well documented for
later reference. / Graduation date: 2005

Project Organization, Diverse Knowledge, and Innovation Systems in the Korean Game Software IndustryOh, Eunjoo 16 January 2007 (has links)
This research was initiated in the belief that new product development requires the integration of diverse knowledge located in different units or organizations. In recent decades, evolutionary scholars have emphasized the importance of coherent systems and regional scientists have highlighted the importance of geographical proximity for easier transfer of tacit knowledge. Despite the strength of these explanations, they do not adequately address the balance between tacit and explicit knowledge, ignoring different types of knowledge conversion process (Nonaka and Takeuchi, 1995).
My research aims to bring a greater understanding of the integration of diverse knowledge for innovation achievements among different actors. Specifically, this thesis deals with project organization for new product development, exploring three main research areas: (1) company utilization of external companies and freelancers for project formation in relation to resource mobilization of companies; (2) types of knowledge conversion among employees within and between departments; and (3) the impacts of several meditating factors on clustering orientations of companies. These meditating factors include knowledge codification, IT technology for communication, and trust mechanisms that help to mobilize external knowledge and reduce friction among team members.
In this study, data are collected from questionnaire survey (104 firms) and interviews with 34 persons in the Korean game industry. Probit model, tobit model, and OLS regression model were used. The main findings are as follows. First, codified knowledge concept reports, prototypes, and manuals is produced through externalization as a game development project is in progress. Second, among several indicators of internal capability of companies, the type of initial industry whether game companies started their business in the game industry and expenditures on the purchase of intellectual property rights from other cultural industries have significant and positive impacts on the utilization of external partners. Third, information communication technology has a significant, negative impact on clustering orientation of companies while reliance on communities of practice and built-in trust have significant, positive impacts on that.

A Study of Businesses Acquiring Government R&D Subsidies: A Case Study of Conventional Industry Technology Development (CITD)Huang, Ya-ling 01 September 2011 (has links)
To improve Taiwan's competitiveness, Taiwan's government actively encourages businesses to commit to innovative R&D activities by implementing R&D subsidies and incentives. They hope to accumulate intellectual capitals and nurture enough technical professionals to promote industrial upgrades and stimulate economic development. When applying for R&D subsidy, the application must go through the proper approval process. Approved applications will be awarded with substantial financial assistance to fuel further innovations such that R&D subsidy has become critical to many companies.
This study used the "Conventional Industry Technology Development"(CITD) as an example and classifies the R&D subsidy applications for analysis based on the 5 variables: company's basic information, program type, commitment to R&D, past experience in applying for R&D subsidy, and strategic alliance with other institutions. Logistic regression is expected to sum up factors that are significant in obtaining R&D subsidies and formulate a predictive model. This enables the government to re-examine its policies and understand the conventional manufacturers' commitment to R&D. Furthermore, the study may assist the companies to assess their chances in obtaining R&D subsidies and serve as a reference for future endeavors.
The study suggests that the factors most critical for companies to obtain R&D subsidies are the number of employees, capital size, number of government subsidies already obtained, number of companies non-R&D outsourced to, whether R&D intensity has increased for the past 2 years, and whether R&D funding has increased for the past 2 years. Although plan's duration and non-R&D outsourced dollar amount may have some influence, their impact was not obvious in the model.

Essays on operations strategiesJacobs, Brian W. 15 September 2009 (has links)
Operations strategies, whether prompted by competitive or regulatory forces, can greatly impact firm performance. While operations strategies cover a wide spectrum of issues - supply chain management, technology choice, capacity allocation, etc. - this dissertation focuses on two such issues, namely, sustainability and product development. The thesis comprises three essays. The first essay (Chapter 2) examines a regulatory aspect of sustainability strategy, product take-back, a form of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). With a stylized model, we analyze the trade-offs between assigning full responsibility for product recovery to a single echelon in a multi-echelon supply chain versus sharing responsibility between echelons. We demonstrate how the sharing of EPR program costs between the echelons can move the supply chain closer to the coordinated profit benchmark. The second essay (Chapter 3) examines a voluntary aspect of sustainability from an empirical perspective. We investigate the impact from various types of corporate environmental initiatives and environmental awards and certifications on the market value of the firm. We find that the market is selective in reacting to environmental performance, with certain types of initiatives and awards even valued negatively. The third essay (Chapter 4) is an empirical examination of the shareholder value effects that result from the restructuring of firms' product development activities. We find that, on average, the stock market reacts positively to product development restructuring, and that the reaction is dependent on the firm's prior financial performance, restructuring objective, R&D expenditures, and size.
