What do we do now? The Role of Absorptive Capacity and Consulting Service Firms in the Internalization of New Knowledge Within Organizations

Nair, Sudhir 01 September 2011 (has links)
The impact of knowledge on firm performance has been seen as one explanation of firm performance heterogeneity, which is a central question in the area of Strategic Management. However, there has been surprisingly limited research into the role of new knowledge internalization within firms. Further, the ubiquitous role of external knowledge providers, especially those that explicitly exist to provide knowledge to firms (Consulting Service Firms) has been negligibly studied. Specifically this dissertation looked at how firms first understand new knowledge and suggested that firms differ in their ability to discern the impact of this new knowledge based on the absorptive capacity that they already possess. I examine how firms internalize this new knowledge and suggest that they can either use existing internal resources or seek external assistance to achieve this internalization. This dissertation has empirically examined these linkages. A survey sent to the top management of 2015 Indian firms, yielded 277 usable responses, which have provided insights into the new knowledge internalization pathways in firms. I use structural equation modeling and hierarchical regressions to test my hypotheses. I find that firms do differ in their use of internal and external knowledge providers, while attempting to internalize new knowledge and that the quality of the relationship impacts the outcomes of any external engagement. I also find that firms with absorptive capacity benefit both by having better short term financial performance and also by being well situated to increase their stocks of knowledge assets, which can help long term performance. This dissertation contributes to several streams of literature in the field of strategic management. I add to the knowledge based view literature and more specifically to the absorptive capacity literature by partially opening the black box of organizational routines. This dissertation also contributes to the professional service literature by suggesting that consultants can help firms generate performance, although this is particularly beneficial to firms that already posses high absorptive capacity. Implications of the results from both practice and research perspectives are discussed and areas of future research are suggested.

Weiser, Jiří January 2011 (has links)
In the introduction of theoretical part of diploma thesis is tabularly summed up the systém of birds classification. Other parts are focused not only on general issues and commonly used themes in school textbooks, popular literature and educational media, but also to highlight specific features, characteristic only for the birds. These themes are historical and evolutional questions, cover morphology, the effect of the senses, body structury and function of organs. In detail is analyzed the issue of body composition and skeletal system of birds. In the final sections are mentioned specialities in the behavior and communication between birds and their habits. The practical part includes a SWOT analysis of available textbooks for the four-year gymnasium with regard to the chapters and information about the animal class of birds. The data analyzed in the textbook can only be considered as basic with need to extend and complement by the teacher. Attached to the diploma thesis are two presentations in Powerpoint, containing basic information and specific features, characteristic only for birds. The presentations are created worksheets. For reference classes was developed as a lab practical examination of selected thematic blocks, memorized theoretical interpretation. Students' knowledge of the...

Ficcionalizar el referente : violencia, saber, ficcion y utopía en El Primer Nueva Corónica y Buen Gobierno de Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala / Ficcionalizar el referente : violence, knowledge, fiction and utopia in El Primer Nueva Corónica y Buen Gobierno of Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala

Matienzo León, Ena Mercedes January 2013 (has links)
The dissertation "Ficcionalizar el referente. Violencia, Saber, Ficcion y Utopía en El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno de Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala" aims to explain violence, knowledge, fiction and utopia in El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno. This study begins with the history of the reception of the El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno in the twentieth century. The main criterion in making this record was to analyze outstanding studies on Peruvian chronic and have opened new meanings from different disciplines. The history of the reception of the El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno starts from a "ensayo de intrepretación" from archeology to arrive at the philological science covered by the strengthening of cultural studies and questioning the "metarrelatos" in the last three decades of the twentieth century developed an "acto de descolonización" from the historical and literary criticism. The concepts of violence, knowledge, fiction and utopia have been constant throughout the process of reading and reflection of Peruvian chronic. Thus, this study answers questions about the dimensions and spaces of violence in Peruvian chronic. This study also recognizes that the stories of the end of the Andean world and its reorganization correspond to the confluence of knowledge and its "ubicidad". El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno hat scenes of the "experiencia límite" that can have a tragic "desenlace" with the disappearance and death of the author or the abandonment and loss of hope for his ideals. However chronicle Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala concludes with a commitment to life and therefore part of "saber de vida" or "saber vivir" because the record is about life and knowledge that has life as a central objective in the historical narrative. Therefore the chronic Peruvian contains a narrative logic that "undermines the static of an irrevocable destiny" and prepares a report of the bleak world with the desire to change it. This scene produces friction between the claims of the writer and the fictional representation of the design, thus is a space between experience and invented that would cover a whole field of experimentation ranging from full diction and fictional formula. The dissertation "Ficcionalizar el referente. Violencia, Saber, Ficcion y Utopía en El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno de Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala" identified an "eclosiva fuga de la referencialidad textual" of Peruvian chronic to create their own "referencialidades" under a utopia. The dramatic testimony, the complaint in voice and image will not be alienated from himself and legendary fantasy element of the early Latin American writings. The narrative artifices of the El Primer Nueva Coronica y Buen Gobierno creates "territorialidades textuales aptas para la imaginación y la leyenda, cercano a lo real maravilloso". The Indian chronicle was conceived when organizing the "Buen Gobierno y Justicia" in a confrontational environment, but also in a world that was new, rising at a time when America appeared as idealization of the Republic of Plato, a good government, a utopia.
