Mísa jako skladiště vzpomínek / The bowl as a depository of memories.JANSKÝ, Petr January 2014 (has links)
The work titled "Bowl as a storehouse of memories" is divided into two parts. The theoretical part is briefly outlined basic difference between collection and collecting. As a basic literary source is book called "Have or to be by Erich Fromm". Terms ritual, fetish and totem are in more detail characterized in connection with the collection. The practical part includes the first defining of concept. The realization process of massive glass object requires detailed and flawless familiarity with the entire production process - from the choice of material forms, through a kind fused glass, to dealing with the calculation of melting and cooling including the choice of final finishes. The work also includes pictures.

THE EFFECT OF COLLECTION AND ESTABLISHMENT SEASON, PLANTING ORIENTATION AND ATTACHED CULMS ON THE SURVIVAL AND GROWTH OF ARUNDINARIA GIGANTEA (WALT.) MUHL. (GIANT CANE) RHIZOME PROPAGULESBrendecke, William Walter 01 January 2008 (has links)
Arundinaria gigantea (Walt.) Muhl. (giant cane) is a native North American bamboo. The mass assemblages of giant cane stems (culms) can form monotypic stands called "canebrakes" with historic distribution encompassing floodplains of the southeastern United States. Canebrake ecosystems have served as an important habitat for a variety of mammalian, avian, and reptilian species due in part by the protective nature the dense culms provide. Also, giant cane also can serve as an effective riparian zone buffer for the protection of water quality. Land conversion and altered disturbance regimes have reduced cane to 2% of historical accounts. Consistently, there is great interest in restoring canebrake ecosystems. However, canebrake restoration efforts face difficulties such as infrequent seeding and low viability, limited availability of seedlings or rhizome planting stock, and inefficient establishment and management techniques. To address these problems, two studies were designed to further develop giant cane propagation thereby aiding management efforts intended in restoring canebrake ecosystems. Study 1 (greenhouse) objective was to compare the survivability and growth responses of bare rhizomes and rhizomes with attached and trimmed culms with different planting orientation. Study design was a randomized complete block with approximately 20 rhizomes of each propagule type (bare rhizomes, rhizomes with culms trimmed to 3cm and rhizomes with culms trimmed to 20cm) planted in two orientations (buried flat or angled and partially exposed) in each of 4 benches (N=239). Propagule type and planting orientation were determined randomly. After six months, propagule survival was 86% and was independent of orientation (chi square 1df = 1.56, p=0.212) and propagule type (chi square 2df =3.88, p=3.88). There was an interaction between planting orientation and propagule type for the number of new rhizomes and culms, above ground biomass, but not for newly formed rhizome diameter or cumulative culm and rhizome length. Rhizome propagules with attached trimmed culms produced, on average, one more rhizome and were 71 cm longer than newly formed rhizomes from the bare rhizome propagules. Planting orientation had no effect on any measured character of long culmed propagules, burying the short-culmed or bare rhizomes tended to reduce growth responses. However, among exposed propagules, growth responses tended to be similar. Study 2 (field-scale) objective was to determine if genotype (3 collection sources) and collection season/ planting season (C/P) (fall/fall, fall/spring, spring/spring) affect survival and growth of giant cane. Study design was a randomized complete block design with between 12 and 20 bare rhizomes per each of 3 collection sources (subplots) planted in each of 3 rows (collection season/ planting season main plots) blocked 6 times across 2 sites (N=2086). Location of collection sources within subplots and C/P within plots were randomly chosen. Rhizomes were planted in rows using a tree planter. Mean survival of cane plants after one growing season was similar at each site with a mean of 11.1%. Survival was dependent on collection source and C/P seasons. Survival ranged from a high of 38.3% for the spring/spring planted Upper Cache River source to 0.4% for two of the other 9 treatment combinations. Collecting and planting rhizomes in the spring for two of the three collection sources produced the highest percent survival compared to stock collected in the fall then planted or stored until spring. These results suggest the importance of collection source, collection season, planting season, propagule morphology and orientation on the survival and new growth of giant cane in southern Illinois.

THE EFFECTS OF A BRIEF MINDFULNESS TRAINING EXERCISE ON PARTICIPANTS’ ABILITY TO TAKE DATA ON HIGH RATE BEHAVIORScolarici, Thomas Anthony 01 December 2015 (has links)
Mindfulness exercises have been reported to increase performance for a number of different populations; however there are no reports that have investigated the effects of brief mindfulness exercises on data collection. This study will exposed participants to a brief mindfulness exercise and subsequently measure participants’ ability to accurately take data on high rate behavior. A concurrent multiple baseline design was used with three participants. During baseline phases participants recorded data on the occurrence of congruent and incongruent stimuli within a Stroop presentation. Treatment phases contained a brief mindful eating video and then participants completed the Stroop presentation. Data sheets completed by the participants were scored for overall accuracy, as well as accuracy for congruent and incongruent stimuli. Participants completed a Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) at the end of all sessions. Results indicated that MAAS scores increased during mindfulness sessions for all participants when compared to baseline phases. Overall accuracy as well as accuracy for congruent and incongruent stimuli in the Stroop presentation increased for all three participants compared to baseline sessions. The findings from this research have potential applications for improving performance for data collection methods and increasing self-reported mindfulness.

The use of electronic information resources in the university of Fort Hare Library ServicesMaya, Zukiswa January 2018 (has links)
The study seeks to explore the use of electronic information resource in the University of Fort Hare (UFH) Library. The objectives of the study are to determine factors that influence acquisitions of electronic information resources at UFH library, to find out the user’s responses to electronic information resources in the library and identify the challenges faced by UFH library regarding the usage of electronic information resources. The literature review was conducted through an acquisition of electronic information resources in academic libraries, collection development policies of academic libraries in South Africa and application of electronic information resources within South Africa and globally. The study is based on Diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory. The study adopted qualitative and quantitative approaches, and the non-probability sampling-Quota sampling was used for students and purposive sampling technique for librarians and academics. The data was collected with self-administered questionnaires and document analysis. The study found that academics were not fully involved in the acquisition of the library electronic information resources; therefore, there is a lack of communication about the acquisition of electronic resources. The study further reveals that there is usage of electronic information resources; however, there are library users who prefers to use search engines such as google, yahoo etc. It was also identified that there are two important barriers that hinder the use of electronic information resources, i.e. physical and personal barriers. The study recommends that University of Fort Hare library should consider including e resources in the collection development policy. It is also recommended that the library online training/tutorials must be installed on the library website to increase the usage of e-resources. In order to stay relevant and visible, librarians should embrace new opportunities and go beyond the comfort zone of traditional librarian principles.

Interconnected in-between : on the dynamics of abjection, animism, temporality and location in nomadic art practiceKoskentola, Kristiina January 2017 (has links)
This practice based PhD research is conducted through my installations One Hundred Ten Thousand (2011-12), Rituals to Mutations (2013) and Blackballing (2013). It is a journey from the sites of propagation marginalised villages in the outskirts of Beijing and a forgotten Buddhist temple in Chongqing, Central China - through the production processes to exhibitions in global venues. This research examines the potentiality of nomadism as a political position. This specific agency provides a unique setting through which this inquiry makes a contribution to the field of contemporary art in the contexts of globalisation, nomadic subjectivity, new materialism and the posthuman/postanthropocentric condition, and to visual language. It argues for a more ethical and material relationship with others, human and non-human. I examine how transformative, intersubjective relations, nomadic politics, extensive lived experience, local knowledge and different levels of collaboration might be addressed by my artworks and how these processes might be encountered by the viewer. I explore how the use of these different fluid connections in my work might transform our sense of ourselves and our relationship with others, human or not. As a process of rereading and reconstituting, starting from specific cultural details like those of Chinese village graveyards, and interconnecting spatial, historical, sociopolitical and metaphysical reconfiguration, the research project examines the possibilities of merging them with emergent, unexpected bodies of knowledge and systems of interdependence. Julia Kristeva’s psychoanalytical notion of abjection is a frame of reference through which I develop methodological tools. In this research, I situate this psychoanalytical, Eurocentric and rather limited notion in more anthropological and extended fields of relationships, especially in relation to notions such as ‘becoming’ (Gilles Deleuze) and animism (Anselm Franke), and to local knowledge and nomadic discourses (Rosi Braidotti). I do this in order to examine how oppositional relations between the Self and the Other and dualistic concepts might be transformed. I evaluate my research in dialogic relation to other artists’ works, via reflexive conversations alongside theoretical propositions and in relation to my political nomadic position as a researcher and practitioner. This research leads to a re-evaluation of how concepts of abjection and resistance might be rethought in art practice. By integrating processes of abjection with Deleuzian ‘becoming’, my artworks explore how transformative processes of, for example, material(ities), rituals or pollution, might be engendered in systems of relations in which oppositional relations between subjects and objects (human and non-human) are destabilised and operate inclusively.

Diante dos dados levantados verificou-se que o valor do salário da ACAPEL está acima dos índices analisados / Abstract: One of the biggest challenges we face with the solid waste problems in Brazil is in the management field. It's been necessary that the definition of a policy for this area involving the threes levels of government (Federal, State and Community), taking into account environmental issues as well as technological, economical and social ones. The commitment with the management of the waste problem involves public sectors, as well as private enterprises and organized segments of the society. The great demand for industrial goods causes increase in the number of packaging and disposables. This growth reflects the increasing in environmental degradation, increasing in the consumption of raw materials and waste deposited in landfills and dumps, but it also represents income for thousands of families who, not knowing how to organize themselves, end up being exploited by retail companies and subjected to the arduous task of scavengers. The objective of this research is to analyze the solid waste generated in the municipality of San Manuel, to study of the amount collected and the amount resulting from its marketing since the inception of the Association of Collectors of Paper, Cardboard and Recyclable Material of San Manuel (ACAPEL) in February 2003 until December 2008; to check, on the period, the growth rate trend of prices of 45 types of solid waste, as well as to analyze the economic viability of the Association and, above all; to show environmental and educational gains for the population and the municipality. This analysis was developed from a theoretical base on urban solid waste involving its basic concepts, its the environmental, social and financial aspects, and the management, and the handling of urban solid waste. Efeito da colheita fracionada sobre a cinética e viabilidade espermáticas do sêmen refrigerado e congelado de garanhõesOliveira, Sidnei Nunes de. January 2016 (has links)
In the testicles occurs sperm production, that are transported through the rete testis to the epididymis, where they will suffer maturation, fertilizer capacity and will be stored until ejaculation. The accessory sex glands are responsible for the expelled fluids during ejaculation, named seminal plasma that are mixed with sperm cells and form the ejaculate. Each of these glands are responsible for a certain secretion that will divide equine semen into three distinct fractions: pre-sperm fraction, produced by the prostate and bulbourethral glands; rich fraction in sperm, produced by epididymal secretions and liquids from ampoules of the vas deferens; post-sperm fraction or poor fraction, consisting of sperm remaining in the urethral canal and liquids produced by the seminal vesicles, the gel. During the physiological process of mating, several events occur named erection, in which the stud is excited by stimuli emission which is characterized by the release of sperm into the pelvic urethra followed by ejaculation with the expulsion of semen, relaxation and gathering the penis. Typically, horse semen collections are performed in the conventional way, with a closed artificial vagina, where all the fractions are mixed. Each stud has individual characteristics related to the maintenance of sperm cells during the cryopreservatio... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre
