A System Thinking Research On Product Lead Time and Quality ¡VA case Study of S Car Accessory Company

Chang, Pu-Lun 05 August 2008 (has links)
Based on the theory of System dynamics and by using the methodology of a case study, the researcher explores the factors influencing the shortened product lead time and the stability of the product quality. In Taiwan, the industry of after-market car accessory has been facing the pressure resulted from our competition with mainland China to provide low-price products. Such competition has intensified since frequent business communications and encounters between Taiwan and China take place. In order to thrive in such competition, not only does the industry in Taiwan need to increase its productivity, but it also has to find means to increase the stability of the product quality and to shorten the product lead time. Analyzing it based on the process of a production, one can find that product lead time is influenced by the following three factors: the time required to design the product; to purchase the raw materials; to produce the product. When purchasing raw materials, one has to consider both the materials used in product developing and as well as the ones required to mass production. In addition, the time required to acquire raw materials also depends on the reliability of the up-stream supplier and our relations with them. Last but not least, the time required to acquire raw materials also depend upon how professional the purchaser designated buyer in the company is. The time required to design the product is affected by the R/D engineer¡¦s professionalism and his or her familiarity with the product. Consequently, the time required for designing phase is affected by the possible turn-over of the company¡¦s engineers. Further, the design and equipment of the production line and workers¡¦ familiarity with the production process are all determine factors as to the time required to complete the products. The quality of a product is determined by the quality of the raw materials and the process of mass production. The quality of the out sourced raw materials is affected by the attitude and promptness of the purchasing department of the company. Furthermore, the standard operation process of the production line and the design of all concerned fixtures also affect the product quality during the mass production. By using the Strategy Maps and Balanced Scorecard, one found that, in the case of Company S, the instability of the quality of products and the delayed product lead time were caused by the lack of competency of company buyers, poor management of the supply chains, and ineffectively executed quality control process. In order to improve the situation for Company S, one needs to consider the interactions between all production factors based on the perspectives of the System Thinking. Subsequently, based on analyzing the case of Company S, the current study concludes the following points: 1. Using traditional business management models, the decision-makers cannot detect the dynamics of processes in the company. 2. By only using the Casual Feedback, one cannot easily detect the core of the problem in the company. One also needs to simulate the situation in order to foresee the result. 3. One should use a system dynamic way of thinking to analyze the operations of a corporation in order to foresee potential problems before they arise. 4. The researcher will recommend Company S to establish its own Strategy Mapping, so it can effectively evaluate its policies and strategies. Key Word: System dynamics, System Thinking, Strategy Maps, The Balanced Scorecard, Casual Feedback,

A Systems Thinking investigation of development of Subprime Crisis.

Yang, Chia-lun 20 July 2009 (has links)
This research attempts to construct the dynamic model of forming process in Subprime Crisis by systemic thinking and find out the solution by using Archetype. We extensively review literature concerning Subprime Mortgage, Credit transaction, System Dynamics, and Finance. Then based on these literature, this research would construct Causal Feedback Loop Diagram to search for Leverage Solution and hopes to resolve the financial problem fundamentally. After reviewing previous literature, most articles only focus on short-term and limited discussion, so this research attempts to put them together by Causal Feedback Loop Diagram. Through analysis, this research find out the concealed Values behind Subprime Crisis, that is the pursuit of capitalism ,in other words, it means decision-makers only care about short-term benefits lack of consideration of the consequence. So the more effective strategy is ¡§to hold Management Flight Simulator Seminar for managers¡¨ and ¡§to increase the opportunity for the general public to get access to system thinking.¡¨ Furthermore, we also discover that ¡§Moral Courage¡¨ cannot be neglected in the recent Subprime Crisis. If we continue to limit our thinking, the financial crisis would never end and would happen again and again. The better way is to strengthen risk control and to hold a value system when facing chain reaction of the Subprime Crisis.

Using Systems Thinking to Study the Development and Change of Taiwan Tea Industry after 1980s

Lin, Yu-ching 05 August 2009 (has links)
¡§Tea¡¨ in Chinese life occupies a very important position, and tea culture is also part of Chinese culture. Tea drinking habits as the Mainland immigration crossed over to Taiwan, but Taiwan tea really when already, its sprout from the Qing dynasty interim (about 1860s). Because Taiwan¡¦s special geographical environment, so planting out tea a unique flavor to semi-fermented Oolong tea producers to become one of the Government¡¦s emphasis on agricultural products, but also to earn a large number of foreign exchange for Taiwan. After 1982, the Government to repeal the ¡§the management of the Taiwan Province of tea,¡¨ of the rules, While been canceled has begun to import, self-made, sold, the whole of Taiwan tea industry from this point onwards have been great changes. At the international recession, Taiwan tea mores gradually, so Taiwan tea from export sales period to convert into the domestic market period. Later, there are Taiwanese Opera tea technology and products to mainland China and Southeast Asia production in recent years the enlargement, unworthy dealers import mainland inferior Vietnamese tea or Taiwan tea filled tea blended to trafficking in and profiting. In addition, the Government still cannot pesticide inspection standards with international conventions, resulting in substantially reduced. Now, the domestic market is disrupted and fasting the export-throat competition serious plight. Industrial structural change is inherently a dynamic, and for the strategy adopted by the phenomenon may be if fictive only in the short-term, long-term invalid status. This study and utilization of system thinking style of the Taiwan tea industry in the structure of dynamic change, through the causality of repaying the diagram to understand the current Government policy and more tea, tea merchants in the face of the predicament of the impact of action, and deduce the entirety of the tea industry in Taiwan policies rows to a conclusion.

Kuo, Chia-Wei 07 September 2009 (has links)
The Sub-prime loan crisis occurred in America caused from low interest, higher home prices, banks¡¦ greedy securitized mortgage and then, in 2007, invest rate rose, and housing prices dropped sharply. Getting to the bottom of a great idea

Truong, Harry Ngoc 25 June 2012 (has links)
Creativity and the creative process are a well-researched topic. The process has been analyzed into models, dissected to determine affecting factors, and modified using varying techniques for the purpose of finding insights into it. The insights found have been used to improve creativity and its process immensely. Although the findings have been significant, there is room for more. This report seeks to extend the knowledge into the creative process so that society’s creativity may improve. To do so, nine in-depth interviews were conducted of professionals in various fields; they discussed a major problem they had encountered and revealed the creative process that led to their successful solution. These timelines of their creative process were then analyzed by comparing them to the existing literature and against each other to find useful ways to aid the creative process. The results reveal reliable techniques into how a person can improve their creativity and inevitably generate better ideas. / text

The use of a contextual writing intervention to reduce restrictive emotional, experiential avoidance, and psychological distress in men

Grasso, Joseph Reyes 27 November 2012 (has links)
This report examines the masculine gender norm of restrictive emotionality, in terms of its effects on mental health and its theoretical relationship to experiential avoidance. This norm has rarely been examined in the context of emotion research despite its similarity to experiential avoidance and emotion dysregulation constructs such as expressive suppression. After reviewing the psychological impact of restrictive emotionality, as well as how it may relate to other maladaptive processes, the report proposes an intervention to reduce adherence to this gender norm. Because traditionally masculine men are often averse to psychotherapy, a writing intervention is hypothesized to benefit this population. Specifically, a guided writing based in contextual reappraisal is posited to help men reduce psychological distress by reducing levels of restrictive emotionality and experiential avoidance. Contextual reappraisal is thought to help increase acceptance of one’s emotions, thus reducing the need to avoid or restrict emotional expression. A writing contextual writing intervention could benefit emotionally restrictive men by encouraging a non-evaluative stance toward vulnerable emotions while offering a private, non-threatening outlet for expression. / text
