The object of analysis are the hydrics resoucers capitation techniques from the petrochemical industry of São Paulo. The metropolitan region of São Paulo is one of most populous areas of the country and with high pluviometric level. In the end of the twentieth century, several factors made the hydrics resources a fundamental point for the productive system in this region, pressing for changes in water capitation technologies. The environmental technology of water reuse can be considered the unique technique really innovative between the others found during the field work. Even with the obvious advantages, a complex negociation appears necessary for making new technological paradigms. The modern development, occurred throughout the twentieth century, brought technological advances that deeply influenced the society ways of life and environment, causing the saturation of the current development model. The society patterns of production and consumption began to be questioned from the emergence of social values of environmental preservation. In this context, the environmental technologies have become an important object of study, both for economics and for the social sciences, contributing to undertanding of new technological paradigms. / O trabalho investiga a construção do novo paradigma das tecnologias ambientais, por meio de um estudo de caso da tecnologia de reuso de água do Polo Petroquímico do ABC. Durante as últimas décadas do século XX, a sociedade passa por mudanças nos padrões de desenvolvimento, quando surge o conceito de tecnologia ambiental. Após a década de 1970, um amplo processo de questionamento social, pressões institucionais e limitações técnicas atuam sobre as tecnologias, impactando de diversas formas o sistema produtivo da indústria. A análise da trajetória da tecnologia ambiental de reuso de água possibilita algumas observações quanto ao processo de construção de um novo paradigma e contribui com reflexões pertinentes às transformações tecnológicas. Situado no Grande ABC, conjunto de municípios em área densamente urbanizada e industrializada, pertencente à região metropolitana de São Paulo, o Polo Petroquímico do ABC foi uma iniciativa importante para o estabelecimento dessa cadeia produtiva no país. Durante a década de 1980, o empreendimento passa a ser visto também como grande poluidor e consumidor de recursos naturais, exercendo pressões no sistema produtivo. A opção de um grande empreendimento petroquímico em captar efluentes tratados, ao invés de águas superficiais dos rios, pode parecer uma trajetória evidente para aquele sistema produtivo, no entanto, o estudo de caso demonstra que são inúmeros os elementos que coagem para a implantação da tecnologia ambiental.
