Motivos para o ingresso e permanência em um curso de licenciatura em química : um estudo longitudinal /

Ferrari, Tarso Bortolucci. January 2019 (has links)
Among the factors that justify the investigation, are the high indexes of avoidance in the courses of Degree in Chemistry and the low attractiveness of the teacher career. As for the latter, they are questions that demand external decisions, mainly arising from public educational policies. However, considering the first, from the perspective of those who enter and finish the course, can favor the adoption of internal departmental policies, with a view to reducing dropout rates. The paper aimed to answer the following research question: What are the professional choices and the reasons for the permanence in Chemistry graduates by Unesp/Araraquara? To achieve these objectives, a longitudinal research was chosen, in a qualitative and quantitative approach. It was taken as sources of subject information and document. The participating subjects are freshmen, from the year 2013, of the licentiate course in Chemistry of the Araraquara campus and the analyzed document was the Pedagogical Course Project. As a tool for collecting information it was decided to use mixed questionnaires, applied online, in two moments: in 2013, when they joined, and in 2017, for those who concluded in the minimum time foreseen for the course. For the analysis of the data obtained, the C... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

The Impacts of High-Level Training: Five Musicians Who Transferred Their Skills to New Professions

Kim, Theresa Ja-Young January 2018 (has links)
This study examines five highly trained musicians who made the life-changing decision to leave their occupations and pursue professions in completely new fields. Portraitures were created to illustrate how these individuals went on to forge successful careers even though their new positions required vastly different skillsets. Through qualitative analysis, it was discovered that numerous skills appear to be transferable from long-term musical training to various career paths. By examining people who have excelled in both domains, common traits were uncovered and grouped into four categories: Cognitive, Expressive, Socio-Behavioral, and Skills Particular to the Craft. The purpose of this research was to identify the skills that musicians can carry over into new professions. Those who may be considering alternative fields of work as well as employers in non-musical arenas may discover that musicians can be desirable candidates for hire because of their numerous transferable skills. Understanding the training process of musicians may also help gather insights for improving curricula which conservatories can employ to prepare graduates for careers. Retrospective feedback from alumni provided this study with a backdrop as to whether coursework offered at their schools aligned with modern industry conditions. After conducting interviews, findings from this study revealed that highly trained musicians do possess many skills that can transfer into new domains, though hard skills should be acquired in the new field. However, the foundation on which a musician's skillset is built provides a formidable bedrock on which a variety of successful careers can be cultivated.

Participant perspectives of program success in a community college-based short-term skill training program

Cooper, Roger W. 06 May 1996 (has links)
Evaluating the success or failure of work force training programs is most often accomplished through the reporting of "objective" data. Rarely are the students' views of their own success in such a training program formally solicited or applied in any useful way. But participant perceptions can be a critical barometer of quality and ought to be taken into account in any program which aims for continuous improvement. This research was undertaken to allow people to present their experiences and meanings in ways which can contribute to just such program improvement. The study was guided by the following research questions: 1. How do student participants define success? 2. How did their Skill Center training program meet their definition of success? It was expected that information gathered from the study would provide information that could: (a) provide and clarify student participant perspectives in work force training and employment programs, and (b) help program operators who run this and similar programs make informed decisions based on participants' definitions of success and their perceptions of what successes they experienced from the Skill Center program. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with fifteen graduates self-identified as successful. Grounded theory methodology was followed to develop the findings. Among all informants, the most often cited theme was that of "connecting" with instructors and fellow students. A second component of this central theme was a "cohort" feeling; a perception of warmth, support, and a sense of family that was common to all of the students interviewed. Many students were balancing feelings of anger, frustration, anxiety, and despair, and it was the human connections with the other members of the skill training center that enabled many, if not most, students to persist in training. For all of the interviewees, the affective value of their training was more intrinsic (e.g., helped them build their confidence and self-esteem) than extrinsic (e.g., helped them obtain and retain a job). This contributes to an inherent tension between individuals and agencies, since agency perspectives on success are based almost solely on extrinsic measures. / Graduation date: 1996
