First Amendment Constraints of Public School Administrators to Regulate Off-campus Students' Speech in the Technology AgeShahzad, Erum H. 05 1900 (has links)
In a world where students and teachers both rely on technology in the process of education, understanding the constraints of public school administrators to regulate off-campus student's speech is a vital issue. This dissertation focuses on ways to evaluate legal analysis of cases involved in off campus speech. The methodology of legal analysis is used to identify judicial reasoning concerning established legal principles pertaining to the constitutional right of public school students to freedom of expression, and the application of those principles to off-campus student expression delivered by electronic means. This research produces a number of key findings: Many lower court cases have favored with the students unless the school district could prove substantial disruption to the learning environment or a true threat existed due to the off campus speech. In addition, it is crucial for the districts to have concrete policies in place to educate the students about acceptable usage of technology. The main conclusions drawn from this research are that current approaches to punishing students for their offensive off campus speech does not uphold in the courts and administrators must be resilient to speech that may be unpleasant to them. This research also includes several recommendations for administrators such as guidelines on how to write their acceptable usage policy. It also provides a chart with a summary of critical cases of importance to administrators.

An ANOVA test of significance was used to determine a correlation between the number of sustainability features provided and the occupancy rate of the community.

The wearing effects of being overworked and in somewhat poor health are reflected in my paintings, ceramic work, and mixed media pieces. I use old and dilapidated materials such as window frames, instrument cases, and wood to symbolically address my physical and emotional states. I reuse items from the past that show a sense of fatigue, tattered edges, and deterioration. Like these objects I felt run down, old, and at times, useless. However, I am comforted by the idea that old objects can, with some care, regain new life. I have discovered I seek my own rejuvenation through my creativity. As a means of releasing anger and frustration toward my fading health, I create assemblages of wilted flowers, encaustic hourglass forms, and mixed media teapots. I also create clay vessels that appear to be deteriorating and encapsulate objects in encaustic medium. Items that belonged to my relatives serve as a metaphor for my genetic illnesses. Searching for answers, living in the present, and maintaining hope are things I carry with me on my artistic journey to find a sense of self worth and to overcome disease.

A Study of Operation and Off-Campus Performing Phenomenon Given by the Music Talented Class of Senior High School:Focus on Cases of Seven Schools in Southern TaiwanChang, Ju-Huei 19 July 2006 (has links)
Abstract
This study applies qualitative and quantitative research to investigate the relationship and effects off-campus performances have on students, teaching activities, school administration, and social education. Data was collected in the form of questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires targeted the 2nd and part of first and third graders of music-talented classes of the seven senior high schools in southern Taiwan. Besides, interviews of teachers and administrators were given to compare each school¡¦s performance styles so as to research the phenomenon of off-campus concerts and operation. The results of this study are as follows:
1. Students¡¦ recognition and satisfaction towards off-campus performances are in direct ratio with students¡¦ involvement
2. Excellent off-campus concerts represent successful music instruction while successful music instruction reflect directly on high performance level at concerts
3. Off-campus performances should be supported by school administration, while school administration exhibits its function in the performances.
4. The styles and repertoires of off-campus concerts manifest each school¡¦s genre.
5. Off-campus concerts function as social education through student appreciation, demonstration and involvement.
6. Each of the seven targeted schools has unique characteristics in off-campus performances and instruction.
It is the intention of this study to pose suggestions for the reference of teaching activities, administrators, and concerts of music-talented class.

A Longitudinal Study on the Effects of Stopping OutSmith, Robert Dean 01 May 1974 (has links)
Inquiries have been made by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education and the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare to determine how colleges and universities could meet the financial crisis now being faced. One of the recommendations made by both agencies as a result of their investigations was that curriculum planners at these institutions provide students with opportunities to have off-campus experiences, preferably in their chosen career areas, before they are graduated to determine whether they want to pursue their studies in that area or reorient themselves to other options. These planned stopouts, they suggested, would curtail drifting or hanging on as well as enable students to gain practical experiences at various stages in their training.
There is a lack of information in the literature to justify immediate response to the suggestions made by the private and public bodies mentioned. Time does not permit officials to conduct longitudinal studies based on an experimental design which would provide a basis to accept or reject these recommendations. This study represents an effort to investigate the effects of stopping out on former students. Admittedly it has limitations, particularly those inherent in ex post facto research, but does provide some results which may assist administrators and faculties as they make decisions in light of the crisis now facing them.
The results of this study indicate that students who have stopped out are more likely to change their academic major than students who have not stopped out. Also, there are indications that stopping out does not affect academic standing. However, it was found that for most students grades get higher as they progress through school whether they stop out or stay in. This finding is in agreement with findings from previous studies reported in the literature.

’n nabygeleë skryflaboratorium fisies te besoek vir hulp rakende ’n spesifieke
skryfopdrag. Hierdie twee studentegroepe benodig gewoonlik addisionele skryfhulp
om die tekskwaliteit van hulle geskrewe tekste te verbeter.
In hierdie werkstuk het die navorser gevolglik ondersoek ingestel of ’n elektroniese
skryflaboratorium, gegrond op die bestaande World Wide Writing (WWW)-model, ’n
statisties beduidende effek gelewer het om studente se skryfvaardighede te verbeter.
Die teoretiese raamwerk vir hierdie loodsprojek is verskaf deur Bereiter en
Scardamalia (1987) se tweeledige skryfprosesmodel. Laasgenoemde model het ’n
belangrike komponent van die ondersoek gevorm om die ontwikkeling van die
hersieningsfase
(waarmee ook herskrywing bedoel word) in die skryfproses te illustreer, nadat die
proefpersone blootgestel is aan ’n skryfadvies oor paragrafering.
Altesaam 67 tweedejaarproefpersone van die Universiteit van Stellenbosch het die
opdrag ontvang om verbeterings aan die paragraafstruktuur van hulle oorspronklike
teks aan te bring, ná verwysing van die elektroniese skryflaboratorium wat skryfhulp
aangebied het in die vorm van web-advies. Hierna het die proefpersone ook ’n
vraelys voltooi om hulle houding ten opsigte van die web-advies bloot te lê. ’n
Geselekteerde ekspertpaneel het gevolglik die paragraafstruktuur van die tekste
geëvalueer en sodoende aangedui of die tekskwaliteit verbeter het of nie. Hierdie
resultate is uiteindelik gebruik om die effek te meet wat ’n elektroniese
skryflaboratorium uitgeoefen het om die hersieningsfase van die skryfproses te
beheer.
